Ceramic Knife/Scraper
It's definitely meant to be a knife. Being ceramic it is 10x harder than steel, and non-corrosive or conductive, among other advantageous characteristics. Makes a great game skinner, for example. This means it could be brittle if forces are applied laterally, which I'm surprised scraping the ferro rod when open didn't break it, haha. It's scraping capability is meant to be done with the blade closed. You'll notice the pinch notch exposes the spine of the blade with has been gound at a 90 degrees to throw mega sparks.

Exactly! All custom and it should be noted we may Americans here in America to handcraft each one of those custom components. Not done in China with cheap labor or with robots. There's dozens if not hundreds of human hands-on tasks in each kit.
Furthermore, aside from labor costs, something that is easy to over look is material costs. Take the fishing line for example... When was the last time you saw a survival kit not use junky monofilament? It's not optimal or versatile and yet almost every kit on the market incorporates that in their assemble kits... to cut costs. We went with 50# Made-in-USA moss green braided spectra fishing line. Definitely not the cheapest, but after consulting with several fishing experts to narrow down what is the best line for most environments, this is what we concluded was the best. And so this is what we used. It's also made to work in conjunction with the sewing needle (I've sewn 3 different repairs with it in the last week actually)
Or the button compass... Made in Japan! Not Taiwan or China where they are 15-20X cheaper to acquire, but very unreliable. Ours however is:
Oil-Filled for dampening
Highly Luminous (glow-in-the-dark) markings
Working temperature range of -20 degrees F to 120 degrees F
Water-resistant to 100 ft (30 m)
So to answer the question, "Why does the kit cost $80.00... [when people's mind is anchored to lower price points]?":
Most businesses start with a retail price point and reverse build the product. We build the product and price accordingly.

I can appreciate all the time and effort put into this kit, I truly do! But coming from a guy that makes enough money to pay my rent, hydro and food leaves me not even enought to go out for even a McDonald's meal once makes me not able to afford something as cool as this! Do you guys make a cheaper version of this kit that comes all together? So it would be a cry once kind of thing instead of 120.00? Cheers, Jerbs.

the other reason to not have a knife, i think, in the kit is you could easily forget and get yourself in trouble walking into a building. the ceramic striker would not set off the metal detector.

Definitely worth the $80, people also tend to forget this is made in the 🇺🇸 USA so no cheap china labor where laborers are exploited (see uigher concentration camps)

Maybe the belt, but the components of the kits, i am not so sure. So China is still behind it.
If you keep the ceramic knife closed, you can use the spine of the blade to strike the ferro rod and not stress out the hinge.
I wear this every day for over a year and it has held up perfectly.
Now if someone could just invent a flexible flat laying water filter? Oh did I say that out loud. Well there goes that invention. LOL
I actually had this same idea about a year ago. Survival belt. After watching your video, I'm very glad I never took the project any further than I did. It's an awkward and cumbersome solution. I carry most of that stuff every day but not in a strangely puffy belt.
BTW, the cordage is technora, a high temp, high strength aramid, cut and abrasion resistant fiber. The bag is high temp, and can be used to boil sterilize water
I was one of the backers on this when the belt came out. Mine arrived damaged, with some loose velcro. They replaced it within a week. Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. I didn't buy the kit...yet, may still, but I love the belt.

I'm 100% a quality leather belt kind of guy , but if this didn't have the bottle opener built I'm sold and would buy one.
Call me crazy that I'm unexcepting of this, but I do not like the concept of a cap lifter being an utmost important thing that every gadget type tool possible has to have one.

I found your channel a month ago thanks for reviewing these kits. I'm a search and rescue volunteer and we have to buy all of our gear it great to get indepth reviews on survival gear. Definitely gonna pick this up, because I need a new belt.

Kids out there. This will make a great gift for your dad or grandfather, if he's into this sort of gear. It's one of those things he would probably never buy for himself, because he grew up in a time where he had to watch his money 'cause he was raisin' you or your mom or dad, so he'll talk himself out of buying it every time he finds himself tempted. He'd think you were nuts if you bought him a YETI cooler, but this is one of those items that is just "luxurious" enough to be really appreciated by a frugal old man. Ask me how I know. I've been wearing mine everyday for about 3 years and really get a good feeling from knowing I'm just a little better prepared now if an emergency pops up. You don't realize it now, 'cause you're still young and strong, but when you get older you have to face up to the fact that you'll need to be better prepared for physical hardship than you once had to be and this bit of gear could make a big difference.
And for anyone interested, the belt supports a Ruger LCP II in an inside the pants kidney carry rig just fine.

My heart sank when you used the ceramic razor edge (not the spine) to strike the ferrocerium rod.
I have had the belt since it was a kick starter campaign. I got the kit and the belt both for a $100. I have had it for a few years now and I'm completely happy with it. People still don't know that I am carrying a survival kit in my belt. The one difference I've noticed is that it used to come with what they called 1st aid tender which was cotton soaked with a neosporin type gel and it was supposed to be for 1st aid and fire starting they were also packaged in those little sealed plastic tubes like the saw, fishing line and fishing kit are. I actually wear it every day with everything and have added a handcuff key in the very middle so it's behind my back. I have worn this into places where you are not supposed to carry items like this and nobody ever knew the difference even going through metal detectors they just think it's weird that the metal detectors go off around my waist but they can't figure out why. they always think it's the belt buckle.
FYI, the end of the belt that tucks into the buckle is not sewn at the end, so you can also stuff things into the end. That is where I stash my cash.

The other reason that this kit is so expensive is low volume, this kit is good for almost no one so the profit must be made on a very small number of sales.
Good to know about this because I was looking for an EDC stash belt. Definitely leaning towards getting it and the kit thanks to Wazoo's comments on this review. Thank you for taking the plunge and buying them. I appreciate your mindset with gear like this.

If you can't open a bottle without a bottle opener nothing you do or carry will help you survive. A bottle opener is the last thing you need to open a bottle.

I've had that belt for over 2 years i don't have the kit but the belt is outstanding i really love it. It is worn everyday an I tell you can't see any wear.
I really like the loops they are one of the things I liked about living by the water always fishing i like to attach my good knives to me when I'm running around water.
But the belt is worth ever penny.
I've thought about buying one of these after I saw zach Fowler wear one but just never went through with buying it. Awesome video.

The new "alox" Swiss army knives are much thinner. They lack the tweezers and toothpick but would be a great fit in the belt.

The cache belt is a solid idea. I would definitely store my cash in it, because living in the city, getting held up is a possibility, and I doubt anybody is going to try and steal your belt. It's something you can pack up and basically forget while wearing it everywhere you go. The only thing I would be concerned about is the water purification tablets getting smashed up, maybe there is a thin low profile plastic case that would fit in the belt.
I'm not really a fan of the belt... But you could review ANYTHING survival kit wise & I'm there. Your calm demeanor

I purchased the Cache Belt and Adventure survival kit a few months ago, and I can say, at least in my opinion, both the belt and kit are worth every penny! Wazoo is a fantastic company with fantastic people! I wear the belt and kit everywhere I go! I took a travel belt with a hidden compartment and put some similar items inside but the quality is better in my opinion. The belt lives in a cargo pocket of a gortex jacket which is stuffed with many other survival items. I ended up tuning the kit until it's actually capable of extremely light camping complete with a mess/cook kit, food, shelter, a multi function radio, tools, charging, wool layers, first aid and the 10 Cs.
I also have a compact self packing backpack that I can unload items from the pockets into. It's a complete single grab item that I can put on and go easily so I have everything a person could predict needing.

1. I've noticed that whenever you use Aquatabs, you mention each one purifies 1L of water, everything I read on the packaging says 0.75 liters per tab. What am I missing?

I finally managed to purchase my XL.sized wahoo survival belt ❤️.. I decided to put my own stuff inside since I have a lot of mini equipment. Tiny flashlight.. Swiss army Sd keychain knife with scales removed... A mini folding razor knife... Button compass.. tiny Ferro rod... Two tinder starters...20ft of thon #90 Paracord ! .. fish line sinker and hooks and.2 piece of power bait..2-$20 &1 $10 bills ..large bandage + 1 reg band aid ..water bag + 4 purification tabs 5 water proof matches / strikee ..Bobby pin & plastic handcuff key ..WOW quite a lot of stuff I have packed in my wahoo survival belt.. yet not bulkyat all ..

Great review and showing folks what this belt and kit are. I agree, that it helps give people an idea of whether they want to spend that money or not.
I also understand why a lot of folks feel $80 is way too expensive.
I have the cache cap and picked up a few of the tool tubes as they are well packed and compact and fit what I needed. For that purpose and what I need them for, it was a worthwhile investment of $70.
The adventure kit has a lot of great and useful items, and knowing Wazoo good quality items, but I can put something similar together for much less.
I'm definitely picking up the cache belt and probably a few more tool tubes and while $15 is a lot I'll be getting the mini ceramic folder as well.

I actually haven't bought anything from Wazoo yet but their products and prices are genuine, btw the striker is actually a small blade, the other side with the 90° spine is the striker, and the compass is liquid filled version out of Japan I believe 🤙🤙🤙
Belt is great. Using your vid as a guide, I would buy separate components to make my own kit for the belt. Example, good quality wire saw w/swivels laid out all the way around the belt. Takes no more room than 2 rings at each end of the belt. Pieces of drinking straw or small ziplock for micro fishing kit
and line, etc. Part of the fun is in making your own sometimes. Better components and tailore made for yourself for less. Sometimes!LOL

I love this idea over many others because i’m way more likely to be wearing a belt than carrying some pouch. Also if something traumatic happened like a crash; car, boat or plane, i’m more likely to have the belt stay with me than anything else. I wear one for flying all the time now.. they hold up well and feel great.

Always go one size larger account for shrinkage and for when extra clothes are required.
Your point at the beginning (put what you want to into the belt) is part of the idea behind the belt. They even chose the name as a play on words because you can cache CASH in it. Kudos, by the way for pronouncing the word correctly rather than the somewhat common mispronunciation "cashay".
It is worth noting that you can obtain most of their components individually for customization, inclusion in your own scratch-built kit, or to augment other kits. Their packaging of the wire saw is especially good for that.
So the add-on kit is the "too much money for my own good" kit, since you can package everything yourself for about, eh $40, but you could make 2-5 kits with the materials you get for that cost, assuming you don't have half the stuff laying around. The tape appears to be the off the shelf gorilla tape mini width, by the way.
You can replicate the straw packages with fast food straws, pliers, and a lighter.
The belt is nice, and it's good they offer the kit for people that want a no-effort gift or something.
First off I love your videos, they're very interesting and relaxing as well! Second I believe the belt is pretty cool, and worth what they're asking! However, the kit doesn't seem worth $80, even though they took time to neatly package it. I could neatly package it myself for free lol! I'd rather spend $80 or more on an Esee kit! Thank you for showing it though! Keep up the great vids!

Some of it, for sure. But some much of the stuff is custom made so, there's only one source... us! But we do sale all of our components on our site individually. Also, considering that in order to make a fishing line tool tube... ya gotta buy a spool of fishing line. Nonetheless, we highly support DIY! Go get it Daniel!

I wear mine everyday i loaded it with all my own stuff alot similar to the kit they sell including a slick flashlight and a hand cuff key right in the back incase my hands are cuffed behind me

@@Wazoo You are now also part of my EDC. Even though I had seen this video, I made the same mistake and ordered too large of a belt, lol. Luckily and thankfully, y'all left enough webbing on both ends that I am just barely able to get a nice and tight fit by moving the fastener all the way in and going all the way to where the velcro starts on the other end when tightening it. This means I couldn't lose much waist and the belt still function as well, but if I'm down to only this belt I hope it's not more than for a few days anyway ;) On the bright side, I will probably/hopefully never outgrow this belt :) :)
A side benefit of all of this is that I too am using my own gear and your having used plastic straws reminded me of this old trick... which I am employing with various kits now. I am making small, single use, plastic packets of things like antibiotic ointment and even edible artificial bait for each kit now with the video playing in the background, haha.

I have two compasses in my wazoo cache belt ..a SUNTO wrist compass ..(has a rotatable bezel can be used for navigation). And a backup button compass...

80 +45 dollars sounds a lot for the whole kit, but if you don't like making your own kit and have the cash, why not. But from my point of view it is better to make your research and make your own kit, you might even enjoy doing it.
I added a Bic mini lighter and a small Buck knife to mine and they seem to fit okay. A book of MRE matches is too big to fit in the belt.
Had mine from the Kickstarter. The stitching broke away pretty quickly. Not very well made.
Update: took it to a tailor to get it fixed, he said the stitching was a joke. He said the single stitching on the velcro means it's going to tear away after any constant use. Said he wouldn't work on it unless he could put stitching above, below and middle because he doesn't do work he doesn't believe will last.
Note: this was my daily belt from delivery of Kickstarter.
My classic SD keychain knife was a little thick for the belt.. so I took an older one and removed the scales..

I think the Cache Cap is more practical. Also, the bulges in the belt may make other people curious.
That's why we make different pieces of gear. Each their own! Please note, there's some ways of reducing the outside signature of the contents. CacheBelt.com has some tips.

This belt is a better idea than the hat. Snaps may be better than Velcro, for some of the storage. Just my $.02. I can see the underside Velcro making for easy access. Maybe divided pockets, so you don't end up accidentally opening the whole length of the belt. Looks good otherwise. God bless!!

Mini Ferro rod...2-quick tinder Six waterproof matches in striker... A water bag and 6 little auquatab purification tabs. (Water ready in 30 minutes) .. 1- day supply personal meds..2each .. aspirin.. Advil. Imodium.. Benadryl..Pepto bis . 1 large folded bandaid 1standard.1 small pack of antibiotic ointment..Plastic handcuff key..25 FT of #90 Paracord ..3×$20bills ..SUNTO WRIST Compass (has rotating bezel for navigation) . One tiny button compass..piece of hacksaw blade in buckle compartment.... I recently went to 2 country fairs where security electronically wanded me at the gate. (I had removed the hacksaw blade from the belt buckle but still had the SD knife in the belt..) .. went through security no problem!

$80? You had to pay up the Wazoo! - just kidding. I heard your disclaimer. Admittedly, I'd put together my own kit because cheap.
You could do some more research on the gear. The "striker" is commonly sold as a ceramic knife typically for cutting duct tape restraints. Also, made by and made for is two different things. The light is not made for them, it is a Photon I with their logo put on it, you can do the same for your channel. The mirror is common as I own a few, but more so that they designed their buckle around the mirror and not the opposite. Price aside, wearable survival gear is better than a tin kit you may leave behind. It would be nice to see a review on their hat with a decent survival kit in it and thoughts on if it is too bulky or heavy compared to a non-kit hat.
I didn't mean to imply that everything is custom made. But it's all been carefully chosen. I know about the ceramic blade, it was a goof.
Yes, the ceramic "folder" is our design. The Photon I is the best small light on the market and the mirror is the best 1.5" x 2" signal mirror on the market-- well, it's not not the market, we're the exclusive seller of them individually of them from AMK. The design of the buckle was made on the 1.5 x 2" platform which fits other mirrors and components as well. Appreciate all the thoughts and insights James!

Yeah, common issue with most refills or kits. I'm doing the same, even using the plastic straw container trick. I would be interested to see/read what you come up with and exchanging ideas/thoughts on this. I'm going to leave a comment in your discussion page of your profile.
80 bucks, or 120 ish in oz where I'm from. That's a good price, if it can save your life it's worth more.

That was a ceramic razor it is zirconia ceramic and you just used the wrong end on the ferris serum rod when the razor is folded up the part that is exposed that's the part you use on the rod not the blade because you'll damage it
While a little apples/oranges, for the same price and my usage pattern I'd prefer to lug the Henry Survival kit. May be worthwhile tho' for a segment of users/situations. I understand the concealed carry/small footprint premium presented here but it is a bit pricey, IMO - to each their own based on need & value judgement.
Can you were the Henry Survival Kit on your person to work or and on a place?

You are right to point out the overly harsh tone of my original comment so I've lighted it a bit. You're selling an "ever ready" set of concealed carry capability - there's certainly value in that.

@@Wazoo Eric has reviewed on this channel both Henry & Best Glide kits, which are similar larger, very full-featured kits in the same general price range as your combo kit. You're targeting a different on-person always use, tho' - not a direct competitor to your product. I like most of the survival items you chose to include in your kit, given limited space.
