You would need a generator for your house if power goes off, the electrical ice maker will not work. Or maybe an inverter for your vehicle, so you could use household power in your vehicle. If you could have gotten to your camper then it would work in that vehicle. I was an Aviation Electronics Technician in the the USN.

It's only 250 watts, so an inverter and a spare deep cycle battery or hooking up to your car would work. I was an EM on CV41 and worked on the AESS stations that provided power for you guys, so I know what you're talking about. LOL!

orrrrrrrr you have a generator for the power outage and instead of spending all day making ice for the fridge, just plug the fridge into the generator. Then you can spend all the day watching all the cooking shows on TV (also plugged into the gen) that will tell you how to make ice in a power outage to fill your freezer to keep it cold with your generator.......................michael I crack myself up...................

Use that same knife everyday. It's a great knife. You're trying to close it wrong. Almost cut yourself doing what you did. Anyway I want one of these ice machines at home. It's hot here and I like a LOT of ice with my drinks and use three or four trays a day, easy. But not sure about the camping use since there are ice vending machines out there that sell 50 pounds of ice for under a dollar. That's much more cost effective if all you need is a couple such loads of ice per year.

Thank you LS. Luckily Amy doesn't know how to use the knife as she doesn't practice everyday. If she did, then she'd be spending quite a bit on things, right? LOL! The places we camp usually don't sell ice for 50 pounds/a buck. Usually, we get some ice before we leave town ( a few bucks for 10 pounds). The campgrounds usually charge $3 or more for 10 pounds. Not a bad thing, but if you camp a lot then this could pay for itself in a handful of trips. I look at it this way. We don't buy much ice as we just need it for keeping drinks nice and cold. Now if we had an unlimited amount of ice, then I'm sure Amy could invent uses for it. So it's more like a "quality of life" thing. if we got dependent on it, then we wouldn't know what to do without it, right?

Not really. You need space for the compressor and need to insulate that so its heat doesn't melt your ice. You need a place for the water and the ice. Overall, it's not a bad design. What's a little misleading is that in order to make the "49 pounds" of ice per day, you need someone to stay up at night dumping the ice and adding water. But if you're up doing nothing all day and can keep an eye on it, then it's not that bad. It's pretty much good for if you are camping somewhere that has water and electricity available but no stores to buy ice. Even if you pack a large ice chest or two, that stuff is gonna melt or need replacing at some point. Then this guy could be helpful.
