@les He is 40+ at the times and i was very disappointed that Nagbe who got all the advantage didnt dare to attack the old man and KO him. For me Somrak got the credit to still can scared Nagbe.
@les Yes, Somrak and Lerdsila lose against good attacker but that happen when they got old. At their prime all your good attackers just cant find the way to hit them. Deal with the fact bro. One of the best attacking fighter at that time Veeraphon admitted that he intentionally throw away the fight with Somrak 2 times coz he afraid that he gonna lose badly.
@les You just know nothing les.
@les You are loser les lol.
@les Loser that's you. lol
On that time no one can beat him in Muay thai. So he decided to trian in amateaur boxing for Asian games and Oympic games and he did it. He won the gold medal at the Asian games in Hiroshima 1994, Asian games in Bangkok 1998 and Olympic games in Atlanta 1996. Such a great legend and hero of Thailand boxers.
great history
@les You're a cretin. No fighter ever wins forever without losing. You just watched cartoons too much a numskull off reality.
@les With a record of over 300 and Thailand’s balanced match making, you will always be challenged.
@les you are a weirdo!
@@enlightenedlearner434 He win 500+ and lose 20+.
It's crazy that he fought at 154lbs at the end of his career against a future kickboxing champion in Davit Kiria and toy with him. And won... In kickboxing rules. He's amazing.
hahah yes next level man
Interesting that all of the elite MT fighters in the ring, actually smile, they are genuinely enjoying it. No fear, no worry on winning or losing, just right there in the moment.
It's call " outcome independent "
That’s part of the idea of Buddhism
I’m a boxing fan getting into Muay Thai and I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this man that won Olympic gold in a discipline he didn’t practice. Amazing
You probably never heard that he agreed to fight JCVD in one match. They even signed contract but fight never happened. I don't know why.
@@armaggedonsbladebecause JCVD would’ve been MURKED…
@@tappingninja That is just pure speculation. The truth is we will never know what would happen.JCVD had long hiatus in professional fighting so he would be in big handicap for sure.
@@armaggedonsblade tbh, based on Changpuek Kiatsongrit and Rick Rofus fight, JCVD would not have much chance of standing in round 2, that is the clash of styles, under the rule of kickboxing, i don't want to image what would happen under the rule of Muay Thai, or minus the clinch but keeping the elbow.
@@hieupham7656 JCVD has decades of training of muai thai. He often praised it as his favourite style and he put real effort to be good at it. He never showed us what he can do and it is a shame.
I remember the time when he won the olympic medal. I was a kid watching tv and I know everyone in the country was watching the same thing on tv. When he won, I heard screaming of joy from all directions in my neighborhood. That moment was epic. The national anthem was sang out loud all around my neighborhood and I believed this happened all over the country. The next morning all the kids were playing boxing at school.
I'm one of those guys screaming, man that night was magical.
Somrak Kamsing most famous catch words in Thailand,' Mai dai mo', literally means not bragging. Very humble guy who love to joke a lot. Say if he becomes a Muay Thai champ, he would not have went outward to take up boxing, Seems like he was destined 2b a Olympic champion. He is a very unique fighter n his fighting IQ is superb n he is very entertaining. We Thais love him very much.
Could you tell us the link of his RUclips channel? ko khun kab! ^^
great, thank you for that. Can you tell us why he wasn't offered any championship matches? The narrator did not explain in the video.
@@Moiez101 bcs gambling and corruption at the time
So cute how he fit the belt on Saenchai and took a good look at it. Olympic hero for Thailand I'm sure. Boxing gold medal!! LEGEND!! Bravo on giving Somrak his due respect!
Some say that his skill is comparable to Samart Payukarun. If both of them on the ring in the same period, It got to be a legendary fight.
Somrak is well known as the smart+counter style, he reduce the damage from his opponent attack by his footwork and he can catch the right moment to counter.
Yup and his legacy is Saenchai another most well known Fighter.
yes would be great fight indeed
@@LawrenceKenshin ruclips.net/video/NLQNdJB2P7s/видео.html
They are close like a brother, and Samart Payukarun been Somruk's Coach before.
Somrak is in the flow when he is on the ring n things look so easy in almost every of his fights.
It’s a good thing JCVD never had that proposed match with him and Somrak...love JCVD but Somrak is on a completely different level!
totaly different!
Pfft that was gonna happen?!? Did Van Damme not see what happened to his brother in his own movie? Death by round kick to wall corner
I think van Damme was just messing around
@@muayboran6111 He really wanted to return to fighting one more time but ended up having a hip surgery and that was it. You can see a lot of it in his reality series Jean Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors.
I think Somrak and JCVD were friends (probably from the Kickboxer movie set). If anything it was probably going to be an exhibition-but Somrak Would have schooled JCVD into Nak Su Khao oblivion haha
Thai Stadium Politics tried to deny him his recognition... but he just went global and made history as a first Thai Olympic Gold Medalist 🥇... WOW 😮 ... respect 🙏🙏
You seriously create some of the most amazing, emotional, and educating content about combat. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, and putting your time into your content. I love Saenchai, and this was really really sweet to see. His emotion winning his medal in boxing was priceless.
I agree.
Love that u have the masters from the golden era of muay thai on ur mind... I'm watching this while training, now... could listen to these all day
thank you bro
I'm Thai and when I think about Somrak's muay thai technic the first thing I think is how he slowly exhausted the opponent. He defend the punch by keep pushing it down so the oppopent has to rise his arm up everytime and that will build the stress to the arm bit by bit. When he got clinch, he will use his leg to block both knees and jump up to make the oppopent carry all his weight to make him exhausted.
l want to see somrak vs. namkhabuan super fight( somrak win - large margin point) ... why he challege to fight right weight fight championship? (6 year thai record)
I remember him, before MANNY PACQUIAO there's Sumlock Kamsing..even i was young by that time..he's an asian games gold medalist in boxing..i hate him because he's so good in the sport but as the time i tried to follow his career in boxing, he continued Thai Boxing were he thrived,, I thought he'll be a great champ and will be recognized in the world (sayang)..by the way i'm from Philippines..
He was also amazing in "a prayer before dawn" movie!
What a legend!

I love your videos. Always makes me want to train again.
I trained with Peter Sugarfoot Cunningham 4 days a week from the age of 12-18 and then slowly phased out. Learned a lot from him.
I love muay thai and these videos also make me want to go to Thailand for a year and train at a gym.
I know kick boxing, but I would love to learn true muay thai. I dont care much to fight but I want to learn the art.
Peter is incredible

Many foreign fighter stay here for yrs during this covid19 time.
Somrak very popular in thailand. But in world wide just a few knew him.
He is biggest muaythai fighter in his weight at the time.
Somrak and Samart is all muaythai fighters in thailand hero today.
His smile when he dodged is his signature that made the ring more entertaining to watch.
I remember back in the days how he completely outclassed Kamel jemel who was good and very dangerous with his boxing ,but somrak was at another level.i wish he had fought in a later era where he could have face more foreigners .joky gym really used to develop great fighters
Used to? Do they suck now? I'm curious I'm just getting into the muay Thai world from kickboxing

His footwork in that boxing match was solid asl. It’s trippy seeing Thai fighters who transition to boxing, they look completely different when they decide to box. Thais are truly the most versatile strikers
Thank you from Thailand🇹🇭

Veeraphol Sahaprom said he cancel his fight twice because he acknowladge that he can't hit Somruk. And make him look bad.
Thanks for this info...never knew about him before
One of my favorite fighters
Somruck was a fantastic fighter, both him and Saenchai were students of Pipah Jockey Gym from when they were kids. You can see him in the background when Saenchai was receiving the belt.

Man what a beast. I wish Muay Thai was more popular in the US.
good stuff Mr Kenshin

Amazing analysis!
Somrak is my favourite Thai fighter, but let's be honest. It should have been him vs Floyd for the Gold medal match. Floyd was robbed
👍🏻👍🏻
Floyd would’ve been the first American to win gold in boxing and beat a legit Cuban in a long time too, had he not been robbed.
Floyd vs Som... that's like a videogame right there. Round... one... FIGHT!
@@Lotus-Son You're a cretin. 1996 Olympic was in Atlanta, Floyd's own country. Who'd have robbed him if not his own dullness.
@@enlightenedlearner434 didnyou even watch the match? Floyd was robbed.
I freaking love this channel
He’s never has stitches on his face. When he was “unemployed” as no Thai fighters wanted to fight him. There was a National boxing game. Big provinces with big money got all good boxers so he offered himself to fight for a small province. Despite no training and drinking all night 😂 he won the fight and all the way to the gold medal. Unfortunately after his gold Olympic medal, he lost motivation, lack of training, partied hard😅 He just made it for his 2nd Olympic but lost… He’s alway cocky and funny. Motto of the story hard work beat genius.
Somrak is really a legend. Sad that many foreigners don’t know about him. He’s known to toy his opponents. He was an orca in the ring.
yes he is, sad indeed

Love this story as it’s one of the few examples of the universe making things right seeing as they ripped him off in Muay Thai so he went onto Win the Olympics.
Any videos on him in your archives fighting or his documentary?
Absolutely amazing fighter. I love his style 👍👊💪

As a Thai person i watch interviews and following Many muay thai fighters of Golden era.
Theres a short video of Veeraphol aka "death mask" interview for his top 5 favourite fighters. Out of the 5 fighters was Somrak. Veeraphol said there were two match up with somrak, and he cancelled it both times. He said that fighing somrak will make him "sia muay"(เสียมวย).
"Sia muay" means making you look like amateurs, makes your form broken, frustrating to fight against and gives you headache. After fighting him it doesn't leave them as a fighter on the inside.

Hats off to the master who mold Saenchai.
Somrak had a chit-chat with Samart about the day when he was a rookie. That's really funny. He said the gambler offered him one million baht to surrender in that match. He returned the money to the gambler and said you bet this on me. You will never lose it.
