Thank you for this! People need to realize it doesn't mean if it's USA made that is going to be made with quality. Companies are using that fact to overcharge and price gouge people in the EDC community and it's not right

What is it with sons taking over businesses and running them into the ground?
Benchmade and SMKW immediately come to mind.
I’m loyal to a couple smaller brands and makers.
But I have personal relationships with the designers and makers, and they make quality products at very reasonable prices.
If their products went to shite or their pricing became egregious, I’d let them know and be vocal about it and certainly purchase less from them.
Obviously, there are brands that I like and purchase more of their products than some other brands.
But blind loyalty is absurd!
They don’t give a rat’s ass about me or my opinions, especially mega corporations like Apple.
I’ve never been a Benchmade fan.
I just don’t care for their knives for several reasons, and I don’t agree with their political activities.
That’s just me.

I didn't hear about the story as I avoid all kinds of news of any kind even sports news and I watch a shit load of sports. That being said, I cannot believe that these companies have the balls to even consider charging people HUNDREDS of dollars for a folding plastic handle pocket knife! 60-70 bucks is a lot but 200-800 bucks for a knife is absolutely stupid! I have 3 fake Benchmade knives on the way for 75 bucks total! If I had bought the real ones, I would've spent probably. 500-700 bucks! I also don't know why people argue who's tracking device is better lol. Apple and Android both record everything you do and everywhere you go and everything you say and type and so on. Who cares which one is better?? They are multi-billion dollar companies who would and do shit on us regularly. I pay so much money for streaming apps that don't work worth a shit half the time. How is it that espn with Disney owning them, not able to make a better streaming app??? It's insane. I have no loyalty to ANY company. About the closest thing I could think of is I LOVE and collect OLD S&W and Colt revolvers. Wouldn't have anything to do with either one of them nowadays. Plus, when I buy old ones, those companies aren't getting the money. The people I buy them from do. Honestly the closest thing I can think of is that I just so happen to only have Ray Ban glasses and Sun glasses. One pair of glasses and 3 pairs of sunglasses and I don't push or recommend them to anyone. I just like their style. That's it. Good video.
I usually just follow up on the brands i find i can trust for their quality, until i cant. Like tomtoc products. If u own any of those, im sure u probably enjoyed them as much as i have. Great bags/cases all around. But wouldnt be surprised if i was let down one of these days.
I couldn’t agree more with your sentiment. I felt the same was white knighting for Fenix Lighting until this year when it hit me, they’re not sponsoring me, or giving me anything. I need to be carrying for me, because that’s all that matters! Use the best tool for the job, no matter where that tool came from. At the end of the day, it’s only you that has your own back!
Its like with leatherman currently. So many ppl are complaining about the new wire cutters and ive seen in multiple videos that ppl are worried that Leatherman is making worse products. Even with the arc being a usa product, doesnt mean anything if the things breaking parts after normal use cases.

Makes sense... last time I bought a benchmade was the bugout in 2018 back when it was $100. All their stuff after that has been more and more inflated and lesser in value. I didn't know when the change over happened but I felt it.

Microtech does the same thing that’s why I will never buy a microtech our a Benchmade I recently bought a Medford American service knife and I bought microfiber scales for it from their website and one of them broke in half they’re too brittle reached out to them never heard back. Their customer service sucks ass, so I will be getting rid of that and not support companies like that.
Its probably the same in the US with cars but Australia's biggest cult is Toyota, people here go mad trying to convince you how good the Land cruiser is to the point that the base model(single cab, manual windows etc.) will chase 75-80K from the dealership.

sounds like dude worked for Benchmade without reading the paperwork, and then went to work for MKC. he violated the non-compete with or without realizing, but MKC wants him so they said fuck it let's fight. idk it sounds like Benchmade is right here but Benchmade can fight their own battles. you went through the paperwork but I only got about halfway through that video so maybe I'm wrong and Benchmade's the bad guy here.

I've been talking about Benchmade's change in leadership for ages so it's good to hear you talk about it. There has been a definite shift in their focus since their founder's passing. In general, brand loyalty is an easy trap to fall into but it actually weakens the brands by allowing them to stagnate, resting on their name instead of innovation. I would love to buy more American when it comes to knives but 1) I just don't have the cash for US prices. 2) The Chinese companies are really pushing innovation with lock types and styles while American companies are sticking with tried and true designs.
I agree with 100% with what you said. Of course, it's going to make you wildly unpopular with your fellow influencer colleagues.

I been following this story since you first reported this. I don’t understand what Benchmade is afraid of over there. I mean there innovative, they make good knives for the most part, they definitely bringing in the revenue with prices they charge. It all sounds like benchmade was being so petty in there behavior to me?
the only Benchmade I own I bought 2nd hand (and had Benchmade fix up and service) and I'm feeling better and better about that
Another good video, X. I will admit, i am a loyal fanboy for only 2 companies. Casio, and Victorinox. Im all for getting a lot of something for a lot less, and i feel i get that with Victorinox knives and Casio watches. I love them both, but i can still see the shortcomings of both of these companies. Like wishing every parcel hook had the nail file or wishing Casio would update a few of their beloved models with better backlights, longer straps for my chonky wrist, etc. Theres blind loyalty, and then theres loyalty to something you want to see succeed and want to support. As far as im concerned, both Casio and Victorinox are heritage brands, and I dont want to see them get tossed in a dusty corner for the newest smart watch or super steel blade.

I refused to buy Benchmade when I saw them cutting up guns. I have always gone with Chris Reeves and realise they are a family owned business that had a change of ownership. I have seen the quality of Microtech deplete & recently Spyderco's nicer knives are coming from Taiwan. Really liked hearing your insight on this very important topic in this country, as a small business owner in a family owned company I always try to support smaller mom and pop shops and its becoming tougher as these companies are going extinct. These massive Corporations are either buying out or putting out their competition with our lack of antitrust laws. Appreciate your service Marine X! Made in the USA and helping our Vets really means a lot to me on a personal level.
Most of Spyderco’s high end knives have always come from Taiwan during the last 10 years I’ve been buying them. Their best value knives come from Japan in my opinion. They generally have something for everyone
