You gotta carve your top out at an angle so it sits right when you put it back on. I learned that the hard way this year! Also apparently carving them out from the bottom and keeping the stem attached to the top keeps it from rotting for a bit longer.
One of my ex's and I would print out jack o'lantern designs, tape them to the pumpkin, trace the picture with a toothpick. Then trace the holes with a knife. Many of you have probably done this. Easy and effective.
I only buy quality cordless tools. Festool, milwaukie and dewalt. Hart is a great brand for folks who have simple DIY projects that don't require commercial applications. I watched a young man install 84 three O doors in a motel in 12 hours with a hart drill. After those doors, the drill seized up. Little drill works great for simple tasks, so to each their own.
This looks funny because at the end you have crafted a pumpkin in order to look like a funny face. Incredible idea because the pumpkin is round and faces are also round
When carving a pumpkin you should cut the top at an angle so that the lid doesn't fall in, or an alternative is to carve the bottom so it doesn't sag plus it's easier to insert the candle.
Why did you start by scraping out the inside? It makes it easier to cut cause the outside is thinner from being scraped out It also makes light shine through it better, but it's hard to scrape if you're trying not to damage the holes you already made.

Don't cut the top of the pumpkin. Cut the bottom out and then you can place your light source on the ground, place the pumpkin on top of the light.
