I was quite surprised when I visited SK during the holidays a few years ago and found out that’s it’s considered more of a ‘couples day’ there. It’s considered that in the west too but it’s more of a family holiday where everyone comes together. I honestly thought the ‘opening gifts and eating Christmas dinner as a family’ was a tradition everywhere but I guess not.

Yeah in america, usually people celebrate Christmas together on Christmas eve or Christmas day. But stay at home and spend time with their families on Christmas day opening gifts. But as an american, Christmas is like another family reunion for the end of the year. So i just go around to different houses and visit different family members on Christmas day if they are having company over. I would assume that when people have a Christmas party gathering on Christmas eve or Christmas day in america, whether you’re a couple or not, everyone gathers at different people’s homes to celebrate and have a gathering with everyone: friends, family, significant others along with children all in one party.

It always surprises me when I watch videos like this, I thought Koreans were very family oriented, I mean they are, but they aren’t at the same time. They mentioned not spending time with their family, but their girlfriend or boyfriend. That always surprises me for some reason. As much misinformation gets said about America, we are very family oriented, we spend holidays with both family and friends. Going to multiple parties to fit everyone in, it’s really busy, but very fun and relaxing at the same time. We spend it with everyone, all we can fit in.
Side note, I also realized that while watch a lot of Asian drama’s. The scenes where someone is rushed to the hospital! I’m always saying, “why didn’t you call that persons family?!” “Where are their parents?!” They don’t find out someone was in the hospital till days later, if at all! That’s not how it happens here, if someone gets hurt, first call is to the parents, then family, and friends, hospital waiting rooms are full of family waiting to see their loved ones. Sorry, just wanted to add that in here, since it’s sort of related. 😉

In most of America the scale of Christmas isn’t like most of the vlogs in the video (but it would be nice if they were 😂).
Christmas in Korea is SO “couple oriented” and that’s so strange, considering what’s being celebrated-if you’re aware of the Christmas season anyway. People feel left out of a completely romantic relationship-free holiday like Christmas rather than spend it happily, from what my friends say.
That’s really sad. One thing Americans do really well is the “idc if I don’t have a s/o, I’m gonna have a good time on my own or with other people”. 😅❤️
Doesn’t code much to get a small Christmas tree, some budget-friendly lifts/decorations for it. I feel like getting a cake for Xmas (considering Xmas is about Jesus and there’s no way he/she’s gonna get to eat it) is strange, but if it makes people happy, then good for them 😂❤️🎶

On 23rd/24th people celebrate with families (EU country). But we do also have company parties (on whatever date suits best, sometimes even in january lol) and i know my mom at least each year also celebrates a little with friends near christmas. As it happens, my parents divorced about ten yrs ago, so i now get to have an evening with dad, and another with mom. Sis also comes with me to both. We've also had her boyfriend at the time over, once also one of her best friends. Back in the day, when my grandparents were alive, we'd celebrate at their place :D The usual date for gifts and dinner is 23rd, but i guess it can also depend on which date best works for each family.

Until a few years ago (when it was decided that the grandkids were too old for it), we would always have a talent show where all the grandkids would prepare a talent, like playing the piano, performing a song, play instruments, or even show off some karate moves. Honestly, it's so much fun :) I wish I could take you guys one year so you can experience the true spirit of Christmas here in the States!
