- During a Quebec parliamentary committee hearing on April 16, 2024, Liberal MNA André Fortin tries to book an appointment with a family doctor using Quebec's online booking system during questioning of Health Minister Christian Dubé.
You notice how the question is asked a million times yet there’s no answer? 🙄
TLDR the system is ridiculously ineffective, but HAS worked for SOME in the past.

This is simply not true.. GAP has turned me away because I have a family doctor!! 811 said to me and I quote “I probably shouldn’t say this but it’s harder to get an appointment when you have a family doctor in Quebec than when you don’t”.
I saw a specialist, she gave me a short term prescription and told me that she would recommend that my doctor follows up. I waited thinking they would call and when they didn’t, I called them to follow up. The response? “Sorry miss, it is your responsibility to make all follow up appointments and we only take appointments on the 15th of the month”.. to be clear, I called on the 15th could not get through and then tried on the 16th and was told I had to call back in A MONTH! I tried everything to get an appointment but ultimately I waited! Called back February 15th, I HAD TO CALL 80 times before getting through. It’s like a hat draw for your health. I got through that time, but they had no availability until March 12th… that is the system.
Now, if I or my children need to be seen in a timely manner, we go to the hospital that’s 1.5 hours away or I risk going to a hospital closer and usually they can find me something faster. That being said, I try to respect hospital resources and would much rather be able to sort myself out with MY family doctor that I have had for 10 years….. 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨

Did he he really just say it's working well right after he was shown that it doesn't work. People are stuck and have no where to go. The GAP sucks they don't return your call in 36 at all.
Oh he appreciates the exercise does he? Maybe he would appreciate the exercise I went through a few months ago waiting on the phone for 2 days to get to talk to a nurse who is like a watchdog before you can access a doctor. You call 811 and then they transfer you to the GAP and you can be on the phone ALL day. I had to hang up cause I had to pick up my son at school and called back the next day to wait another 4 hours. Then when you get to talk to someone they do everything to discourage you from seeing a doctor. Last time I couldn't even get a person and had to leave a message for a call back. It took 14 days to get an appointment. The only thing they have improved is making it easier for you not to get an appointment without bothering them. These are just tactics to keep you from being in line visibly. The line is long 14 DAYS you just can't be seen waiting. This guy is horrible and seems pretty out of touch of the reality.
