  • i wanted to do a comparison of the two games side-by-side for dialogue. this is the mobile version and i had to manually change the dialogue through video editing.

I tried playing the 3ds version not too long ago but gave up after about six hours because I was sensing that this was not the same dragon quest 7 that people described as full of crazy puzzles and tons of rich dialogue.... good to see the Ps1 original really is quite different I plan on starting it soon and taking the several months leisurely pacing necessary to complete it and enjoy the experience.

The 3ds version feels neutered to be honest. It literally chopped off the entire opening section fully. And it's easier. Like a lot easier. So I hope you enjoy the PS1 version it is one my all time favorite RPGs

I've never owned DQVII but I would rent Dragon Warrior VII from the video store everytime my parents let me pick a game. IMO, the 2D sprites on a 3D plane has a certain charm that is unmatched by remake. What were they thinking when they excluded the text sounds?

I hate that the mobile games don't have dialogue noises. It's lacking for sure like that.
And I agree about the sprites on 3d backgrounds. It has a ton of atmosphere and such like that that is lost

The sound design definitely needed some more time in the oven, the lack of footstep noises is especially jarring to me.

Yes I do. I don't prefer the accents in the 3ds. Plus they butchered the beginning puzzles and they made it much easier all around.
But it all depends. If you're a person who doesn't have as much time on their hands than the 3ds version is better because you can experience the story 25% faster. And this game can last up to almost 200 hours for completion of everything. So the extra 25% is pretty useful. If you have all the time in the world I definitely say the original though
