    Hi Adam, great vid as always! Love the care you give your koi ❤ I learned a lot from you! I actually started feeding my koi oranges. They love them! Helps my pond plants survive. I got a big koi that sleeps in middle of pond with his head down in a Lilly and his tail fins sticking up out of the water. Scared me thought he was dead a few times but he just enjoys sleeping like that I guess. I call his name (Tank) and he swims right over to me. He's kinda spoiled too

    Hello.. i hope you can find some time to help me. How many gallons do you keep your baby fry in? I have 4 small koi (4"-5") and one 6" shabunkin in 110g stock tank. This coming spring I will be making a nice decent sized pond, around 3000-4000g and i plan to definitely make a mega filtering system! I couldnt wait to start with koi which is why i started the stock tank and went with baby koi. Ive been told my fish load is at its max. I have 3 different filters. A small waterfall bio filter with lots of lava rocks, sheet of filter floss and a filter pad, its pushing 264gph. Also have small pondmaster bell fountain filter with filter media and i added some lava rocks to that, which pushes 190gph. And I made a 7 gallon tote filter, loaded with lotssss of lava rocks, filter floss and a pad of filter media on top, that pushes over 600gph. Between the 3 filters, I used close to 13 lbs (used almost all of 2 bags weighing 7 lbs each) I also have a decent sized air stone bubbler. so my question is, i see lots of videos with people raising baby koi which aren't in huge ponds.. so how am I at my limit? I wanted to add 2 more but was told to wait until i build my actual pond. Can you please help me understand? Not trying to start any debates or anything. I just want to do things right butttt i have my eyes on 2 beautiful baby koi. Helllllllp me pleaseeee lol thank you so much for reading this and hopefully responding!!! 🥰

      Hi, my fry tank + filter is 400gal.
      sounds like you've got a good setup if your system is running comfortably and no issues with ammonia etc then sure you can add more fish especially if its a temporary thing.
      having said that its not best to have got fish before having the pond ready as the pond will require some time to mature and even then loading a new pond with lots of fish might just cause big problems its always best to slowly add fish to your collection as time goes on rather than all at once.
      In my experience with ponds the first fish in a new system will probably die so its best to have some less desirable fish for the first year or so just to get everything running.
      Adam

      @high_fructose_corn_syrup 4 года назад

      @@AdamJulyan ok tyvm for the info. I do plan on adding lots of extra media into my current set up before the pond is ready then I'll take most of it to start filtering the pond first. Then i can add them slowly. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. It means a lot :)

    Hi Adam, great video as always! I've just had my first batch from Cuttlebrook Koi Farm on Saturday, looks like we have the same batch! Some really nice looking fish! Mine have gone in to a 1.2m folding vat tank, was really impressed with it. I think a smaller version of your outdoor one from previous videos. Do you find they feed better in the net? Mine are obviously quite skittish due to being in new surroundings for only 24 hours and seem to be shoaling together around the filter area just as cover. Just wondered what benefits you believe you get from them being in the net for the first few weeks or so? Cheers!

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  4 года назад +1

      The benefits of the net are simply they will go down the bottom drain if just in the tank. It depends how many you have and your temperature but they are very easy to train to come to you for food i always shout fisheees before feeding them and they rush to the side of the tank for food.
      The temperature is one of your biggest problems with a tank like that at this size they will benefit from as much temperature as possible im going to try keeping them at 26DegC all winter as long as the bills don't get too outrageous but ideally for the next month they would benefit from being about 18DegC so they can gain some size before winter.

    • @anthonyswindells4219
      @anthonyswindells4219 4 года назад

      @@AdamJulyan Got you, makes simple sense. Haven't lost any fry (to my knowledge) and they seem to be doing really well, i just watch them take the food as it sinks! but i'm currently at 20. I'll up it a few degrees then. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated! The Winter Grow on construction begins at the end of the month! Look forward to your next update so i can compare!

    My koi have had a bit of a tuff time this season. I've had a heron attack and lost three fish. Lost one due to mouth rot and another - as I type this is in isolation due to dropsy so im treating her as best I can. Last winter temperatures dropped below 0 which isn't ideal so since its been a stressfull season i'm thinking of getting a pond heater for a more comfortable winter. Ive read that doing so doesn't allow the cold waters to kill off unwanted parasite/bacteria. Have you got any advice for me on this?

  • @petrairene
    @petrairene 4 года назад

    So, if you buy Koi, are they pedigree bred? Can you say, I want offspring of female x and male y and if you breed two fish of good quality and the same colour and pattern, is the offspring roughly the same colour? I imagine if you want a certain coloration, you cross desirable fish for many generations and you get that trait genetically fixed in that breeding line?

    I two years ago bought a 100 of what I now know we’re a local breeders “culled” fry. I 1st kept them in an aquarium but I lost about 30 in one day to poor oxygen levels on the hottest day of the year but quickly I transferred them to a separate tank that was within the filtration system of my 1000 gallon pond. I also used Cuttlebrook fry food & 50 of those fry are still thriving some having reach 10 inches long.
    Did you specify a the mix of fry or was it just a lucky dip Julian?
