A pond in the vicinity of where I live is filled with koi during summer times but is taken back in when autumn arrives. The thing is, every year there are a lot of fry that get left in the pond forced to endure the winter and such. I've noticed that although they mostly seem able to survive they aren't really growing much because of being in torpor and such. Does that mean that their growth is permanently stunted or do they grow normally once it gets warmer?
Hi. Your fish sure are fun at feeding time. We're you talking about solar heaters? It seems there should be something out there so you could use the current heaters as backup for cloudy days. Maybe in the next video you could address my question. Love the fish.❤❤👍
Look very standard to me them mate prefer companies who only let u have koi fry after there three months old once they've hand picked the best and you end up with all the mongrals
If they're happy "LITTLE" fishes' I'll eat my hat😂 acting like ravenous Tosai🤣 Fry look great, I can only imagine what that heater costs to run keeping them at 26°c😦
How are the the koi doing down the street that your looking after are they still there? Just been wondering as the house was for sale Lucky you’ve taken care of them
I can understand why you don’t cull them. The ones you picked out for the big pond look pretty bloody ordinary. The purpose of a quarantine tank is so that you can observe your new fish for any symptoms of disease. It should have its own water system and ideally you would not share equipment between the quarantine and non-quarantine areas. 3 weeks quarantine minimum. I think in terms of animal welfare you could perhaps halve the amount of fry you purchase and doing that would most likely improve your sentiment towards culling. It’s sheer laziness why you don’t cull; daunting to look at a writhing mass of colour and lack of confidence too considering your choice of fish for the big pond. Remember to come up for air occasionally😉
Hi Adam 👋 why do they hang up and attack another fish? I have noticed this in my pond 1 fish seems to kop it quite a bit? Looking forward to more vids pal
Videos but wanted to ask with the electric going up what you could suggest I could do with my pond as I don’t work at the minute and struggle to pay the bill at the minute as it’s only 20 quid a month not a lot to some people but quite a bit to me with not having a lot of money what options do you think I could have I was thinking like turning the pump off for 12 hours a day or would that upset things or not work please could you help me and give me some ideas thank you.
you'll only cause more problems turning the pump off it's a difficult one as running anything for 24hours a day can be quite costly honestly not really anything i could suggest that wouldn't have a big initial outlay which probably makes it pointless.
You still don't seem to change your policy of keeping them all. I always think it would be better if they were culled so that some excellent SHIROUTSURI remain. 、、、、
I just haven't got a need to cull I get that the nice fish might have grown a bit better without so much competition but I've tried separating 100 fish and It did not work out they where better off in the large numbers it keeps them very active and always looking for food so it does seam to work. plus im bad at picking fish I like them all 🙂
you get a mix they aren't all going to be show winners but i can say when i used to buy small koi from japan (not fry) you could guarantee they where all crap with these you do get a fair number of really nice fish 🙂.
Great job
