I'm so sorry this happened to you! My heart goes out to your family at this sad time. To avoid scams I run my giveaways on my blog. I always contact the winner via email and I can see commenters emails but the public can't. I did it that way because it hard to contact someone on RUclips if they don't check their notifications. It has the upside of not having to deal with this too. Scammers rarely bother with blogs. We must be vigilant. This is happening to often!
Thank you Lindsay. The blog is an idea definitely to think about. I had no scamming issues in my last giveaway so this caught me a little off guard. Another RUclipsr suggested holding all comments for review. Tedious but that’s is something I think I might try too.
@@mindofwatercolor Steve have you thought about having moderators for your channel. They can check for spammers for you. It will reduce the stress you have to go through. I suspect that spammers choose channels and giveaways of a certain size hence the reason they've chosen to target you now.

I’m sorry that the phishing ‘expedition’ is taking the joy out of your RUclips celebration and giveaway. And especially during this particularly difficult time for your family. My mother died mid-Fall and 3 months later, my sister was diagnosed with inoperable cancer and passed away 2 weeks later. Dear gerry i feel the same as the pandemic hit i found myself relying on prayers to help shore up my soul, im not a big hey you have to believe in my religion cause its the only good one but more along the line of that if you walk in the path of jesus footprints of compassion kindness empathy and love generally your a person who sees religion as a helpmate to grow your soul stronger...by the way im a progresses catholic and had great nuns and priest that helped me learn about other religions at a young age it was awesome to go see differnt religious institution and how they practice and theat we all have some what similar ideas and how we as religious people altho we differ on certain things we still believe in the compassion kindness empathy and love that jesus( or your higher being) show to his fellow humans. Thats why i like america many religious institutions you can see and learn about....many art blessing to you today...🎨✍

As someone with terminal cancer I can truly empathise with your pain. I’m due my first grandchild later this year and it is doubtful I will make it as my prognosis is poor - I’m trying hard though. On another note these unscrupulous scammers need addressing more vigorously with the law.

I get phishing attempts several times a week, but they’re easy to spot and I always check the sender’s email and hit BLOCK SENDER in my email. I am so very sorry for what your family is going through now- losing close loved ones is so unbelievably hard. We do not know each other and will probably never meet but I still want to send all my best thoughts for you and your family his trying and hard time. So horrid you then on top of all that have to deal with these ruthless scammers! Good you know what to do about it, but I am sad you have to put energy to all this too! I hope they tire of it all and that your giveaway goes forward without any further complications! I have used the clover leaf box many years and really love it, it is so useful. I realised from when I got it I wanted many more colours than the whole pan slots can provide for ( I paint botanical and need several different blues, reds etc than there were room for) so I put in, with a bit of glue dot, a half pan in every compartment and then used the remaining space in the whole pans slots to put in another colour ( from a tube). That way I doubled the amount of colours I can have in the palette. This invention you show is so clever! A big thumbs up to whoever invented it!

Wow, Steve. I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this scam stuff on top of so much happening all at once for your family. Will be praying for you and yours. Seasons of loss and grief can be so challenging, and I’m just grateful God walks through the hard stuff with us as well as the happy stuff. I did see that I had received a spam comment, and recognized what it was due to some of the factors you mentioned and because of how many channels I’ve seen this happening to lately, but I didn’t realize there were ways the viewers could also report them as a whole “channel”, not just reporting a comment. Thanks for sharing how to do that. I’ll be using that frequently going forward when I see these fake accounts.

My mom was almost scammed when she searched Amazon for a customer service number. She called the number and they started asking her for all her info, including credit card info. Nightmare. I am so sorry for all the heartache your family is going through.

I did want to say thank you for showing how to deal with these types of things on RUclips. My channel is still really tiny and new, so it will probably be quite some time before i have to know these things, but I feel like this will come in handy, probably sooner than I'd like! As someone with terminal cancer I can truly empathise with your pain. I’m due my first grandchild later this year and it is doubtful I will make it as my prognosis is poor - I’m trying hard though. On another note these unscrupulous scammers need addressing more vigorously with the law.

I get phishing attempts several times a week, but they’re easy to spot and I always check the sender’s email and hit BLOCK SENDER in my email. I have used the clover leaf box many years and really love it, it is so useful. I realised from when I got it I wanted many more colours than the whole pan slots can provide for ( I paint botanical and need several different blues, reds etc than there were room for) so I put in, with a bit of glue dot, a half pan in every compartment and then used the remaining space in the whole pans slots to put in another colour ( from a tube). That way I doubled the amount of colours I can have in the palette. This invention you show is so clever! A big thumbs up to whoever invented it!

Wow, Steve. I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with this scam stuff on top of so much happening all at once for your family. Will be praying for you and yours. Seasons of loss and grief can be so challenging, and I’m just grateful God walks through the hard stuff with us as well as the happy stuff.
I did see that I had received a spam comment, and recognized what it was due to some of the factors you mentioned and because of how many channels I’ve seen this happening to lately, but I didn’t realize there were ways the viewers could also report them as a whole “channel”, not just reporting a comment. Thanks for sharing how to do that. I’ll be using that frequently going forward when I see these fake accounts.

As for the terrible scammers, A few channels I watch run giveaways without it in the title by talking about the upcoming video for a few prior videos, so regular viewers are the only ones that know when it is and what video it’s on. So sorry you have to deal with scammers on top of everything.
My mom was almost scammed when she searched Amazon for a customer service number. She called the number and they started asking her for all her info, including credit card info. Nightmare. I am so sorry for all the heartache your family is going through.

I know how frustrating and time-consuming it is.This week's AARP Bulletin has a cover story on "The Bad Guys" and how to stop, all about scamming, etc. A never-ending battle. Especially frustrating when you are trying to do a good thing and someone takes advantage. My sympathies to your wife. With my 94-year-old father daily challenged with health and other issues, I can truly empathize. Thank goodness for watercolor...and tutorials like yours.
