I hate how badly the writing team fucked Jonathan up, cause he's my favorite character and I felt he had so much potential. He could've evolved from the aloof, under the radar loner, who is loyal, hardworking, responsible, talented, and goal oriented (all admirable traits) and gave him a huge underdog to hero arc in this or even the last season. But no, they threw that (and his passion for photography) out the window and made him into a dull, lifeless, unmotivated pothead who dresses like a bum. Praying my boy gets more justice in season 5, the heart to heart scene he had with Will in the last episode showed some improvement 💞💖💗💗

Making him a stoner shows how the writers gave him realistic struggles that relate to people who have those aswell in reality. He even says in ep 9 volume 2 of season 4 to will “thats just me dealing with my own shit and running away from my problems.” His problems he has with college lead him to this, which is pretty realistic.

I really don't think of Stranger Things as being a comedy, although there are some great comedic elements. I think Jonathan plays an 80's introverted Weirdo Loner very well... and he is able to convey a grounded but average ordinary character with some range from intelligence to fear to just this tired guy who has a tough life, a kid just trying to get by, and a brother and son trying to support his family and hold it all together. I do feel bad for him. Him becoming a pothead once he leaves the stress of Hawkins and his mom and brother are ding well... just makes quite a bit of sense.

In seasons 1 and 2, the humor was sophisticated, but since season 3, it has leaned more towards a clownish element. Although they tried to recapture the emotional depth of season 1 in season 4, I believe they still missed the mark. Eddie's death, for example, didn't move me as much as Bob's did.

I think Jonathan plays an 80's introverted Weirdo Loner very well... and he is able to convey a grounded but average ordinary character with some range from intelligence to fear to just this tired guy who has a tough life, a kid just trying to get by, and a brother and son trying to support his family and hold it all together. I do feel bad for him. Him becoming a pothead once he leaves the stress of Hawkins and his mom and brother are ding well... just makes quite a bit of sense.
@@ohifonlyx33 Yeah this I feel bad for him makes no sense he has never been focused on to really understand his struggles. You as an audience member have to infer that he is struggling. You don't actually see it affect him on scree like it did to other similar characters like Jesse Pinkman. Writers almost making fun of addiction when it is a really sad thing. I am sorry character is destroyed. Charlie Heaton deserves better and should quit the show and hopefully he gets another big project that would force him to quit it.
@@ohifonlyx33From a neutral audience perspective-someone who is not a crazy fan of the show but still loves it-it seems to me that the show took a more comedic approach starting in season 3, losing the raw emotional depth of seasons 1 and 2. In seasons 1 and 2, the humor was sophisticated, but since season 3, it has leaned more towards a clownish element. Although they tried to recapture the emotional depth of season 1 in season 4, I believe they still missed the mark. Eddie's death, for example, didn't move me as much as Bob's did.
