    The symptoms are that the steam mop is hot and makes a buzzing noise but no steam is produced. The fault is due to a small one way water valve in the body of the mop becoming stuck closed. This video shows you how to dismantle the steam mop, remove the valve, repair the valve and then reassemble the steam mop. The model number of the steam mop is a Black & Decker FSM1600. Faulty. Not working. Broken. diy.

    Very helpful - especiall the bit about how to remove the plastic cover
    I need to add the I also found a small round piece of brass (I think ) in the plastic tube near the heater when following your instructions. WHen I fiddle I managed to extract it from the tube and found it was gunged up with lots of limescale.
    I cleaned it and discovered there was a needle thin hole in it.
    This also needed cleaning out as it would not have worked without that.
    So it is worth looking for that and making sure the hole is clear while following the above instructions

      Valve was OK but that pin hole was clogged up. Thanks for mentioning this in your comment👍

    Thank you very much for the tip that you gave me! You saved me a lot of money and frustration. This steam cleaner has been idle for many years but i new that the problem was not serious that’s why I kept it. Thanks again.

    Great vid. It didn't fix my problem but without this vid I would not have fixed it. Nothing wrong with the valve but the pipe connected to the heater was blocked with a little bit of metal. Cleared it and now it's steaming like it's never steamed before!!!

    if I hear the buzzing, is that an indication that the airpump is coming on? the valve didn't totally solve the issue for me, although it was at least part of it since I couldn't blow through either way at first. completely my fault for letting it set with two water in it.

      two=tap

      @techydiy  9 лет назад +1

      +Megan C. Yes the buzzing is the air pump. You can isolate where the problem is by pulling off the pipe before the one way valve, turning it on and then see if you get any water out of the pipe (You need to be very carefull about electricity and heat if you do this). If you do get water out then the problem is with the valve, the heater or the head unit. If you dont get water out then remove the pipe that goes from the air pump (opposite side to the one way valve) to the circular knob and check that you have some air coming out put the pipe in a glass of water and watch for bubbles). Generally look for crushed pipes that stop flow.

    My hose came adrift from the blue valve and water went everywhere. Thanks to your video I dismantled the machine and found the fault. However I have a small metal component which I think is a flow restrictor which was loose in side the machine. Does this go between the blue valve and the heater. It seem to fit nicely in the plastic tubing and has a small hole in its centre. This could be what Jason Richards was referring to ( and having removed it he is getting more than full flow!).

    Thanks for providing this video. Question for you: when I was using the steam mop, I heard a pop and then the water started leaking out of the unit. I took it apart and found that the hose came off of the one-way valve on the heat tank side. I found loose in the machine a spring about 3mm in diameter and 20 mm long (not the spring under the on/off switch button), and also a small brass orifice valve (pinhole type). I cannot figure out where they should go. Do you know where they should be installed? Thanks very much

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  8 лет назад

      At a guess, it's from the device before the non-return valve. It sounds like a fair bit of pressure has built up to blow off the hose, that would be quite abnormal.

      In your case you need a thermal fuse, dismantle it, and under the tank should be a thermal fuse and you need the same vlue or little lower, if it's sys 240 or 180 and 10 A usually and it should work after replacing it.

    Hi. Great video. I've the same problem. i hear the buzzing but there is a leak and I think that this is caused because of the stuck.
    I'm spanish and i can't understand what do you do with the black thing to solve the problem. I removed that, i tried to clean it, but when I screw it again, it keeps being stucked.
    Some help would be great.
    Thank you.

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  8 лет назад

      +Javier Semitiel Martínez just removing it and replacing it normally fixes the problem. Their is a another part before it with a tiny hole that can become blocked also. I would remove the case and run it to see where you have the leak, be careful it is dangerous to do this, the system works on pressure, if you have a leak then there is probably not enough pressure to operate the one way valve.

      @javiersemitiel9652 8 лет назад

      I meant a water leak. I don't know if you understood me.

      I just discovered a block in one of the tubes.
      i66.tinypic.com/9syzir.jpg
      Do you think that it's normal? It's in the tube attached to the motor.

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  8 лет назад

      I cant identify it from the photo. I would remove the pipe and see what it is.

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  8 лет назад

      Yes I understood. The way the system works is that the air pump pressurises the water and pushes it to the heater. On the way it passes through several components. If any of the components or connecting pipes are blocked then it wont work. Likewise if you have any leaks it wont work. So you need to check each component and pipe. Normally something is blocked. One day I will make another video showing how the whole thing works.

    My mop does not get hot at all or produce steam. Is that the heating element or steam valve?

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  4 года назад

      Heating element or power switch or possibly thermostat or fuse or I think there is a switch in the swivel head. It's years since I looked at one

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  9 лет назад

      PixieRealm Shame about that, but it is the most common fault and normally fixes the problem. The other areas to check are that the air pump comes on and that the air lines are not blocked.
