@PalleRasmussen At LEAST? at level 8? with unarmoured defense? unlikely. with a 2handed weapon build and point buy stats, you should have at MOST an 18 at level 8.
So please remember, you are good and cool, I am just providing perspective from the kind of gamer Colville calls "Powergamer". I do not use point buy. Never did, dice is the way to go for me, and dice will give you 23,4% chance of one stat being 17 or 18. Bodger is half Dwarf/Half Goliath. This would translate to Variant human or Custom lineage for me. If we assume Variant Human, he will already have taken Great Weapon Master at creation to supplement his Twohanded Weapons Fighting Style. Chris (Treantmonk) does not think that is a very good fighting style, but I happen to disagree even though I respect his skille as a much more experienced optinmiser than I. Anyway, Variant Human also provides two +1 to stats, and at lvl 8 a Barbarian will have had two chances of raising these and should thus be able to get to +7 added from stats to Unarmoured Defence easily, whether using point buy, standard array or rolled stats. If instead we assume Custom lineage he gets "+2 to an Ability Score, a Feat of your choice, Darkvision or skill proficiency". This should *definately* take his strength to 18 from the start and give him Great Weapon Master as per above. And again, with two Ability Score increases at lvl 8, 17 AC should not be a hard goal. I presume Rowan's low AC is because he is new to the game and has raised some other stat like Char for RP reasons, and he probably values RP over optimisation. Ashley Johnson had a similar AC at lvl 8 (14) with her Yasha, but she rolled infamously low stats from the beginning, and value RP over optimisation. Am I missing something? And I am not criticising your GM style, or their play style, just providing perspective and exchanging opinions in order for all to learn from each other (it is a sad world where that has to be disclaimed, but such is late modern society).
@@PalleRasmussen yeah - these guys aren't min/maxers -and being new 1st time without precanned characters, they don't know what they don't know.... but if you look at how much different they play now compared to the wolves.. huge improvement. (not counting the 2 one shots - where they didn't level up at all - so haven't had to deal with - long term what is best.... although their definition of 'best' may not match a min/maxer version. ). c'est la vie
Baradun smartly making the Banderhobb run off is why he's my favourite character. No disrespect to the others but while they're busy stabbing and slicing, Baradun is creating illusions and tricks and being just generally sneaky and I love it.

@@quackwaddlequack417 no, he says you can choose to spend the entire action to drink it carefully. And it will heal max. Or a bonus action to just swiftly gulp it down, maybe not emptying it entirely or possibly spilling some. Then you roll as per RAW.
1:57 - I would have called shenanigans if Bob HAD suffered any other effects, Rob. After all, he's so used to being at 1 hit point that being on 2 is practically a luxury!
If Bob had to use his bonus action disengage to step out of the hags reach before he attacked the otyugh, then how did she get to use her ability to attack him? He was out of her reach, thats why he had to use the disengage. she could not have attacked him and never was it presented that the ability allowed her to move as part of it, just immediately make an attack against a target of her choice using the same rolls. I think rob just got tired of not being able to use her cool ability and decided to use it anyway. Which is too bad because the guys did a really good job of keeping away from her to limit that. Robe specifically says “she jumps off of the thing, slams down into you” then later, “she is now no longer on her leaf but(boosh) slammed down into the blood puddle” as he moves bobs character out and puts her mini in bobs square. The inconsistencies in ruling that ability can create confusion for players, especially when it is directly after a player does something really cool. It can lead to them feeling cheated and stealing their moment from them. Rob is normally a pretty good gm but i would recommend against following the example he set here.

Would have loved to see that truce persuasion on green screen, seeing how he was acctually raging at the time.
@@Kippemon Bodger: "YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A TRUCE!!!!!" (nostrils flaring and practically growling at the hag)
Major props to Baradun for great use of an illusion!
The Barbarian trying to be a diplomat? Bodger, you have untold layers.
The phrase "magnificent bastard" has never applied more aptly to a character than to Baradun. Good stuff
Kudos to Bob for giving immediately an inspiration for the portal-a-stay pun. That definitely deserved it.
18:11 - Ben, Ben, Ben in the swamplands, gaining health is he.
Ben, Ben, Ben in the swamplands, watch out for that tree!
Had to sing that out loud, loved it
Brandon Fraiser would be proud of this.
Best comment! 🏆
I like how the strategy of this fight effectively became 'Hide until Bodger can solo Bavlorna'
Bodger had advantage on the 2 attacks cause Bavlona was RESTRAINED!
Also did she roll for her concentration on earthen grasp when she took the damage?
Does that make it....double advantage? Cause he was already using the advantage dice cause he was doing reckless.
@@knightmare3706 not according to RAW, but some will houserule it.
@@knightmare3706 Only first attack has reckless attack's. advantage, rest did not
According to rules you can only get one advantage on rolls regardless on how many sources
of advantage you have.
Such a near death experience for Greg! Glad he's back
Yeah, jammy bastard.
@@VivaLaDirtLeagueDnD Garlic Jam.
God its always a blessing when you hit mid day. Work is getting long. Then that little bell reminds you, "Hey little buddy, don't worry, its Thursday. Here's the next episode of VLDL DND to help you get through the day."
Bob: did you know that Greg is married not a happy marriage
Bogder: I think I was having a picnic here with Greg's wife
"Topsy Turvvy... hit em with the pointy end!" and no one remembers why she's there?! 😂
Who? :)
These go way better 2 at a time. Its hard to wait another week when ones out tho
I'm so jealous of people just discovering this now who get to binge watch 76 episodes all at once for the first time. My mind is still blown that it took them 9 months to get through the white frost.
@@Adam_okaay well it's not like they play often, that's why it took so long
@@Adam_okaay im now discovering it with 190 episodes so I'm happy.
@@CRITTER_FROG Same here. Discovered it a ittle earlier than you but have not managed to binge all of them at once. It's just SUCH A RELIEF to know there's always more so come. Love them so much. Also, I already know I will rewatch it when I'm done :D
Just when you think Bob's going to Bob all over he rolls a Nat 20. Greg's still the Bob.
Bavlorna/Pavlova/WhateverHerNameIs is my favourite bossfight so far. Great job, Rob.
I was thinking The same Thing 🤣
I agree. Though I really loved the Varis fight I think was his name.

If you guys would ever do some charity auction, and the prize would be the opportunity to play with you as a guest character in your campaign, I bet even people from across the ocean would have bid.
I would
I definitely would do that. New Zealand is beautiful as it is, add a fun session with these guys and there you have it, a perfect vacation.
If the pandemic ever settles down, I might fly out there just because.
They could play the isolation games style to play with fans
I don't need two kidneys anyway. Here I come!
Rowan doing his "model face" in the end card is sooooooo hilarious :D
worried he was going to burst something
Reminds me of Zoolander movie! 😄
28:17
I swear there must be a horror film somewhere in this world with Rob as the main villain.
Rob definitely has the face and the acting chops to play great villains.
I thought so too!!! That moment was mental
27:10 Knowing Bob he probably would have rolled below 5 for those stealth rolls even with advantage lol
21:09 - Kettlesteam (in the voice of Ralph Richardson) Is this a dagger...
(as Laurence Olivier)... which I see before...
(Paul Scofield)... me, the handle toward my...
(Ian McKellen)...opponent? No... that's not right!
One of your best episodes Bob’s comedy timing is great
14:06 thats amazing, this is the first time i've seen illusion magic actually used so consistently and well. I've always seen it get thrown away after failed attempts or just not allowed to be used well like this by dms(they don't allow monsters to be fooled, meta game their npc into knowing its not real and such); " oh yeah this level one guard is escorted by level five 5 warrior with true sight." in the heat of the moment. shit like that.
Man, the clifhangers in this series is killing me!!! What an awesome show, best of youtube without a doubt!
It's cliffs all the way down.
Greg is so right as to why Bob got such good dices LMAO And his face when looking directly at camera is pure gold, just like the loony toons before falling, he's just missing a sign saying "Help!" LMAO
With all of the reactions over the last three episodes, I can't wait for Baradun and the Dickheads' first album, 'Suffering From Success'.
I was expecting a shot of Rowan in a dress and wig to walk past Greg's shop when he was gazing out of the window.
14:46 Rob: Ooh, probably gonna miss. That's a 15, what's your armour class?
Bodger: 13... :/
I was surprised at that, at that level a Barbarian should have at least 17.
@UCpLnwv9pBkLPhPEgsJ8ZmZQ Not when he has double to quadruple the HP of the other party members.
Soo proud of Bodger, doing his maths like a big boy. He's really grown. Think ima gonna cry in the here and now.
It feels to me like there is not enough strength modifier being added after 3 attacks
@@ThalesWell They only added modifiers from 2 attacks instead of 3 =/
Baradun smartly making the Banderhobb run off is why he's my favourite character. No disrespect to the others but while they're busy stabbing and slicing, Baradun is creating illusions and tricks and being just generally sneaky and I love it.
Every time I'm like "nooo" when the music starts at the end
"hit 'em with the pointy end"
I believe this is a GOT reference and you can't convince me otherwise.
I always imagined the Banderhobb looks like a Battletoad, but this one makes me think of a giant yolked-out dark skinned version of Kermit the frog. 😆
I started the first episode 2 months ago and now I’m finally caught up! Didn’t know anything about D&D and now I’m absolutely in awe of Rob’s talent. You’re such an amazing storyteller and an inspiration 🥰 Please never let this series end! I’m dying of laughter on the couch and my husband keeps looking at me funny.
Thank you!
I literally shouted at Bob that he has healing potions just as he remembered them. That made me so happy 😊

This series is legit one of the best things in my life. Thursday's are always awesome.
We need “Portal a-stay!” on a shirt.
Portal a-way, Portal a-stay, Portal a-shtray, Portal a-nyway - many possibilities!
I would wear a Portal Astay shirt.
Im so lucky theres already a lot of upload for this series, just started watching.
went to my head after watching
Rob: Your so used to being put to low hp that you just resist going into shock
Bob: Health A-stay thank you very much
Such a combination of jaw-dropping and laugh-out-loud moments! Awesome work, guys!
Greg even on deaths door has that sigma male grind set!!!
I love the fact that they use the potions logic reference multiple times in the series.
Ben's hair compared to the recent Venjamin the Bandit King gives some sense to the time differences in production relative to release.
Also 11/10 titular pun
I noticed that Adam always has very good concentration dice. It was in the fight with the wolves and with Yarris and in this fight too. Despite all the damage, Baradun is really able to keep his concentration on spells
F*ck getting the pyro light thing back, Poppy should get a “Multi-Command Module” that lets it be commanded by other members of the party.
I mean Greg is a tinkerer, he could just tinker a new switch/mode on to Poppy to have it do whatever he wants. just like how Bodger could have done blacksmithing when they were in Scotland. Just have to remember what they can do.
Friggin Kettlesteam. Poor thing is forgotten the whole way here, and now she's got her daggers the wrong way 'round! Starting to think her patron didn't leave unwillingly...
These guys make such a jolly DnD party, im laughing hard every time! Also kudos to the DM for somehow coordinating and planning, despite all the chaos

It's just so amazing how many references to epic npc man can be made during this! 🤣
Awww Rob, there needs to be more than 30 minutes a week! These are great fun to watch, but the week in between is so looong.
Ben not knowing his own abilities is very much like every other party I have ever played with
I just watched 6 Days and caught Rob and geeked out for a min. I can’t get enough of VLDL.
Good movie.
That is a good houserule for healing potions Rob. One that I will consider 👍
I was looking for this comment. Basically he just runs all health potions at max healing value?
@@quackwaddlequack417 no, he says you can choose to spend the entire action to drink it carefully. And it will heal max. Or a bonus action to just swiftly gulp it down, maybe not emptying it entirely or possibly spilling some. Then you roll as per RAW.
I love how bodger is a Master Diplomat XD. "hey, want a truce? No? Ok, i guess i crit some face than" pure Gold.
Great episode, loved the reference to eating the health potion vial
Rowan's model face - I CAN'T hahahaha
Oh man it's never enough lol. These are the highlight of my week. I love you guys.
I like that rob teaches these guys the meta of the hag when they get it right or wrong
I am addicted to these.
10 seasons and a movie, please.
Awesome episode! Was nervous of the wipe but they turned it around! Looks like next episode is loot city!
I feel the major illusion gambit could have been disastrous but turns out to be inspired
