- Time for roofing! We get the shingles installed but have a little setback with the installation of the skylights. Gary also begins the design of the shower walls - thanks to all the comments indicating we need the walls to keep the water from splashing all over the bathroom floor. What would we do without you :) Have a super week! We'll see ya next Friday :)

One day, about a couple hundred years from now some one will come across this old homestead, and think my gosh a whole new sub-culture of man.
I loved your talk on conflict resolution. Great way to settle disputes.👍
I love that the boys and girls work on all the projects.
Bree,
i also think that each of you literally living under DIFFERENT roofs helps reduce big flare ups of conflict. Everyone having their own space to go to might keep conflicts down.
My daughter (9, obsessed with making and building and engineering) and I have been watching nearly every video you guys have posted, she's absolutely in love with your family! Thanks for sharing all of these projects!
You gave birth to four amazing kids who are all very humours, attractive, friendly and helpful and thanks to your amazing parenting skill seem to be exceptional in building and farming and being able to work as a team and they are such important skills to have I wish I could have been brought up in your family
"we'll cut those out now"- Gary >_< love the idea of discussing "conflict resolution." great job on the roof guys!!
That's the BEST way to be a family, guys!!!!! Joke it off and come together for the really important things...way to go!!!!!
What a bright future with families like this.
Very endearing.
Thank You
What a beautiful family all of you are....so nice to see a family working so closely together. ❤❤❤
The roof is looking real nice. I liked the ‘If I can’t remember it, it didn’t happen’ tee shirt, too.
It's so nice to watch a family interact, work & live together, in a calm, normal way. No drama of self-absorbed, rebellious youth, covered in tattoos & using bad language. You can tell the parents have done a good job of raising respectful, well adjusted children that don't feel the need to act out or abuse drugs. Young parents take note.
CONGRAT GARREN AND FRIEND! KITCHEN looking good!
These videos are definitely helpful! I love how the family works as one, you can tell the mom and dad raised their kids right! Great job everyone im looking forward to seeing the next video!
The more i watch these the more i love this family😣 i should watch in order buuuut 😅
Thanks for keeping everyone updated idk why but it makes me happy
Congratulations to Garren and Ally on your wedding. the kitchen and bath is coming together nicely
You guys always make me laugh! I love the way you all settle disputes. The roof looks great and the skylights are an amazing addition. :-)
I was wondering why you cut the valleys but then you said you were going to change it all over to steel roofing... So great job guys... And Shae good job on the cuts in the valleys. It usually takes roofers a long time to learn that.
Thanks for another great update. Can not believe how Shae has got comfy working high up. I remember in of the first musart studio peeks yall talked about her and heights. And honestly you would never know that your family fights. But you do have a great way to do it. See you next week
I have no pithy comments...I just love you guys.
Maybe for decoration, on the outside of the main house you guys could put floating plants!! I think that would be really cute!!
amazing!!! the roof looks awesome. The above-view of all of the rounded roof-lines...very cool. :) Great work!!! I am so glad you share this. I actually never want you folks to stop building. (As i typed that... I worried that I am addicted... to watching YOU build!) :) :( :?
Hi guys love the videos a lot really enjoy watching them.brings a smile to my face every time especially Bryson 😂 would love to see a full homestead tour of your progress and animals keep doing what your doing guys 😁
Another great video. I wish they were twice as long. I believe you did do them longer. Always nice to see all of you and your progress. Thanks for sharing.
‘I love you from my head’
I’m dumb rare occasion my phone buzzed and I ran to my iPad and ur vids are some of the few I can show my dad
your rabbits are so polite, thanks for the arial shot and the update to the farm animals, the roof looks Very Nice (a little Borat intended). When you get a hump in the wood if you have a dry wall screw it can be very helpful. Thanks for the update, have a great week. Your all Beautiful with sleep or not!
Love the sky lights. 😍
Great progress. Love watching.
Just recently found your channel, and I feel in love with you guys, you are all so honest and open and it is so exciting to watch your video's look forward to every Friday thanks again for you do
ya need to update your trailer family pics to include the new addition!
best part of my week.
and for a second there I thought you said see you next spring.
I have been watching ya'll since January 2o17 when Bryson's building was in progress. You all have definitely made me laugh a whole bunch(!) and I am so excited for your growing family(I almost want to be invited to the wedding), and I look forward to the wonderful future you all are creating naturally. Keep up the team(family)work!
I just love watching your family!! Very inspiring and creative!!
All the back and forth, rib poking this family does is totally normal and healthy.
Humor is a sign of intelligence. Having a thick skin is a sign of maturity too.
Most of the stuff that some might see as "conflict" is just every day fun.
Enjoying you all!
It’s always a pleasure to see a new video every single week! Thanks
For budding DIY roofers that reverse row at the bottom covered by the actual first row is referred to the ‘Ice Dam’. It keeps water from creeping up and freezing or being blown up in and creating ice under the shingle in winter or leaking during summer.
Theophilus Jedediah thanks for explaining that... I was wondering.
Looking good, guys! I look forward to Friday’s to see your updates.
I am so glad I found your channel. Keep the videos coming.
Your Vlogs are so much fun to watch. Always up beat! Love it. Thank-you Michelle and Pup Harley from Arlington Massachusetts.
Oh goodness maybe I have no taste but I thought those skylights looked awesome! I mean I understand why you wouldn't want the height but I thought I looked fine. This project is really coming together. I'm so happy for you guys!
You should animate yourselves my son thought I was watching a video game about a third of the way through your video. LOL
Congratulation Garen and Ellie!
Always look forward to these updates!
That roof looks awesome!!! Great job!!!
I AM WAITING PATIENTLY for the next video !
Can I believe that eventually you will trim back those low hanging tree branches that are barely above your new roof? Nothing kills a roof more quickly than tree branches.
You don't do near enough videos but you are still awesome!
I got a good chuckle when the ladder kicked over a little bit. I think I heard a tiny squeal pop out there. :P
WOW! You built an ARK....LOL!
Although earthbag is definitely how we want to go when building our house, we are experimenting with fiber adobe technique. If you guys are interested check it out, maybe you can try it for a future project. It's kind of fun to work with.👍
I really enjoyed your family adventure!
Excellent roof, guys!
Great start to my weekend. Thanks again for posting.
I've never seen a roof material like that in Africa, we usually just do metal or tilesstraight off, it lasts "for ever" inland and hardly leaks if properly installed. I guess some US building materials and styles just never made it to Africa, what with the commonwealth and so on.
Shae, the accent sounded Russian to me. I also tell co-workers I don't want them bleeding all over the work! Usuall fixed with electrical tape and tp!
Injuries in duty always a "pain" Bryson, I find I can work all day with tools and then come home and cut/burn myself in the kitchen. Perhaps that's why I married? Last month I grabbed a hot welded metal bit with a bare left hand while welding (just a quick touch-up, glove lying next to me on table), seared my prints off for a couple of weeks!
love your work and fun
Our family thinks your family is awesome amazing and inspirational
Nice drone shots showing the finished roof!! You guys did a great job on it!! The sky lights are going to be awesome!! See yinz next week!!! =)
screening materials over gutters will help keep stuff out
useing step flashing anywhere but on the sides of the skylights is guaranteeing a leak the top and bottom need to be solid flashing then you are supposed to put solid flashing on top of shingle on sides
Congratulations guys on a beautiful life keep up the good work your all awesome
Conflict Resolution! What a concept.
Gary,
That's a nice metal shower frame. It would be interesting if someone put some.... GLASS BLOCKS on it. lol
bree did all the work guys
Skellnone
Lmbo!!!!
Yay, the skylights! :-)
That would be a hatch, portholes are the round windows in the side of a boat or ship! LOL!
Leave the extra curb height you will find a wind advantage to it. Looks good!
looking good guys ❤
And your so creative
Nicoles Randomness how do you leave a comment without leaving a comment
Scott
By leaving no coment to speak of...lmbo!!!
Happy, happy, happy; Joy, joy, joy.
Umm, Bryson......that is the wrong nail......aim for the metal nail....it hurts less
The aerial view of the roof looks fantastic.
Great work yet again. I could use some tips in order to help get my family to help with my garden and building projects. Darn its hard work doing everything on your own ;)
Yesss another video! I love you guys!
Hey you guys you could even put a hole in the roof on that one of the houses and have a little green house up there
"As I *politely* turn away!"
Awesome, great, amazing as always!!! Loved it!!! Was a bit worried about the flashing going down before the felt, shouldn't it be on top of the felt to keep water out from under the felt, but I barely know what I'm doing so check me on that and share if I'm wrong please!!! I wasn't sure about the shingles over the ridges, but then I saw you had placed a ridge of shingles over the ridge to hold off the waters. That'll hold for long enough and looks overlapped enough!!
I absolutely appreciate and love all you guys do!! You're wonderful!!! I agree with another comment, I am addicted to watching you build and work on various projects!!! One of these days unless the channel continues on with each child building for and with their future families and their children too and so on, there will be a lot of people going through withdraw symptoms at some point!!! Lol!! 👣 🌞🐇 👍🐐💜🐔😘🐣💜🐖😍🐕💜🎨👆💖😍💖👆🎨💜🐕😍🐖💜🐣😘🐔💜🐐👍 🐇🌞👣
Good job at completing the roof ,can't wait till next week for the next video👍
And I agree as well "Bree needs her beauty sleep"😍😍
The ranga is punching above his weight.. Well done!
Money and energy put to a good use. I love you guys.
Your dad looks like the guy who used to do the Wendy's commercials.
Love how this project is taking shape. I get all kinds of inspiration from your post each week. The burlap bags as ceiling cover was such a cool idea i have started collecting grain and coffee bags to use in a guest house. Thanks so much.
As always your videos are amazing, but will there ever be a time when the videos are longer?
I’ve noticed the trend on RUclips these days are videos that are 20 minutes or over, and it’s fantastic being able to see so many of the details of what’s going on. Personally I’d love to see even more of what gets done, even if there isn’t much cometary to it. Just more footage to follow along with.
Keep up the good work :)
I absolutely ADORE you guys!!!!😀❤️🌹
Ah!! Over so soon!! I'll be looking forward to next week😒
One thing I forgot to say was, Watching y'all pounding in all them nails, makes be thank the good LORD for all my air nailers... At my age and physical limitations I've had to learn how to make things work for me. So I can still enjoy some of the things I use to be able to do... They still won't let me climb on a ladder... LOL,LOL... I guess you need two some what good working legs to climb up and down a ladder... LOL... I did try to climb a 6 foot step ladder behind my wife's back a couple or years back. She heard a loud noise come from the garage just to come out and find me on the floor with my bum leg and foot still stuck in the ladder... There was no way for me to make up a untruthful story about what happen... LOL... My pride sure got hurt that night a long with the rest of me,,, LOL... Thanks again for a great video... Be blessed... BBE..
I am curious about a few things. What’s Dads profession? Did all of the children pick up these talents or attend any training aside from OJT on the homestead? I too am in AZ and wondering what if any “laws” are applicable on building structures in the desert vs in town ie does it have to be inspected to meet some codes? If you were ever to sell it would it be difficult for buyers to get a loan due to the uniqueness. Sorry I am a thinker.
On the topic of individual bedrooms built isn’t kind of a PIA when one needs to use the facilities❓Thank you for doing the videos it seems so easy, efficient, and cost effective I wonder why more people don’t do it. If I had a family and healthy body I’d do it too.
Oh😆 its looking so good 💜❤
Looking awesome!! Love the kitchen skylights!!
I like your music very much. Sorry about Bryson boo boo. You guys did a great job on that roof as good as This Old House. (I miss the mid week Live show on Wednesday at 6 PST. 😢) It helps me get through till Friday at 6 PST. 😊Thanks guys another happy video.
Thanks guys for a great video!
You guys are awesome, keep it up!
That was way too short
We want more Please
I want y'all to come to Georgia and build me one....y'all are funny and awsome family
Wow, I had no idea there are shingles glued on mats, I always thought they were the heavy slate rectangles you have to nail in individually
When are you guys putting in the circular windows in the kitchen? I gotta see how you all fill those holes in!!! ❤️
Bunny!!!!!!! I can't wait till next week❤❤❤❤❤❤🌟✌🌟
What a great comment question! My mom and I argue the same way, or in my case 50/50 with tip toeing around the subject because I want her to change something or whatever but she's my mom and I just want to love and coddle her. 😂 My sister is completely different, she's more of an exploder, so I tend to just avoid conflict there wherever possible. 😉
That was was funny Shea - I don't want you bleeding on my roof, But its all mine Because I say so & because I can !
You guys have come so far
