Awesome video!!! 👍 Great to see ‘Esther’ being sorted by such a talented bunch of people! Roll on the next instalment! 👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍
Nice to see her being sorted and by looks the right people :)
Sorry for my bad spelling Marcus
Marcus , make sure that the old side panel goes up on the wall in Esthers Garage !! or at least your front room lol
Can’t believe how solid she’s is mate, looks like Esther is in good hands 👌🏼
I would have thought the quarter and rear panel was quite an easy repair so shocked to see you changing them , however im sure it will be a superb repair when completed to your usual very high standards .
Absolutely love the quality craftsmanship
Wowsers. You guys are artists!
Thanks
Lovely work very professional job not many shops like you around nowadays 👍
Thanks Nigel 👍
Great work done on Marcus’s ester
That is one clean mk1
love how you have a mk1 escort, mk2 escort and a mk3 escort in there keep up the cracking content
😁😁👍
Nice work, i cut my teeth on the MK 1 escorts as a kid never thought they would become so sort after . I remember having too paint a particular colour that had micro-blisters from being stored in primer outside when FORD went on strike backin the 70s .
Marcus made a great choice by the looks of it!
Not a small feat fixing it like that, should be awesome again. But for my old mentor, that would have been his specialty repair, he would have cut it from the gas cap down after pulling the rear panel out. Specially if there is no original quarter available, it was like magic what the old man did.
Front wing cut in the middle and just changed the front half, you never knew it was done like that when he was finished.
I owe him plenty for what he showed and teached and have not seen a better body guy after his passing.
seems a shame to cut off those original rust free panels they looked like they could have been easily repaired but i suppose what the customer wants he gets.
Wasn't just me thinking Exactly the same thing I've seen much worse pulled and panel beaten back to origal shape leaving car more original
@@andyplage6590 It defo COULD have been repaired but it would have taken ALOT of work as one of the creases was very sharp! Also I want to be able to look inside the boot and see a perfectly straight rear quarter (I dont have the original tank fitted) AND ultimately the rear quarter would have needed plenty of filler and I dont see why I should have that when the accident wasn't my fault. Also now the quarter panel is out of the way all the inside bits will be painted (where Ford didn't bother) 👍
@@marcushayesford I can see your point I'm sure experts would be able to reshape to perfection without using filler the rear qauter even if it mean cutting off rear panel to gain access to that nasty Crease
Yes probably more filler going into the joins than the repairing the original panels ,especially the C piller and the sill is always awkward to weld neatly and you do not disturb the flanges .Panel bond works well with a spot welder where you can get one in .Stops the rust and is way stronger
Marcus put me on to your channel really enjoying it
Mate that's great, fist time I've seen your Chanel I've subscribed, I worked in a ford dealership in the 80s and lost my job for being as consensus as you..... I left the motor trade and joined the fire service great work love it, looking forward to watching more of your work👍🙂

Great video I can't wait to see the progress on marcus car 👍
I love seeing these old cars being restored/repaired Gavin, it's great to see the level of detail you put into your repairs as well you are all true experts at your job. I didn't know you could still get new panels for the MK1 Escorts mate that's amazing. Do you ever restore any MK3 Cortina's mate? I had quite a few of them back in the 80's and they are still my favourite car 👍
I follow a person on here called PeteC Cortina City I have chatted to him quite a lot and followed him restoring his MK3 Cortina's, he does a great job on his cars and he names each one he does, not sure if you know him Gavin. Look forward to your next upload 👌👍

That gas heater has to go! I had the same one , it is not good for long term use, it releases gases into the workshop and you will feel the effects
Thumbs up.
Thanks.
Brilliant video,thanks
Thanks 🙌🙌
Lovely work, well done. Wondering why cut off the entire panels when with your skill set id have thought a perfect and near filler free minor replacement would have been possible. I’ve never done it so genuine curious question, I’m sure there’s a reason.
To be perfectly honest I think by the time we replaced just a section of the panel and repaired it it's just as quick to fit the whole quarter panel this is obviously just the way I like to do it everyone's a little different
@@Gavinpinkpaintshop ah yeah I’m just interested in the whys and wherefores , I just starting an amateur restoration myself and face those choices. Thanks for replying.
Nice work but personally I’d have repaired the quarter panel and back panel on the Escort .
Interesting
NICE
He will only smash it again
So the same guy that crashed into the back of me whilst I was parked is going to crash into me again???? That seems highly unlikely! 😃
Nice vid.
When your cutting and grinding the mk1 , are the sparks an issue on the paint etc?
No no generally we always cover up any exposed glass though
@@Gavinpinkpaintshop
I'm sure you do. just asking as a novice 🙂 look forward to seeing more
Also..ive got a S1 in the garage ..that one looks fab tho..my doors were a twat to hang nicely. Had to compensate with the stripes etc.
Do you any one sellin s1 or s2 cozzy powered
Why not pull out and planish the damaged panels?
Looking at the escort surly that quarter back panel would of repaired
Yes, it probably would have but between me and the customer we decided to fit the new panels as this was an insurance claim and we thought this was the best cause of action. A repair carried out to a high standard with the correct procedures is perfectly acceptable
@@Gavinpinkpaintshop Ok ,
👍🏻
why did you not just give the escort a pull
Between me and the customer we decided it would be better to fit the new panels
Don't watch marus your cars missing a few parts .Nice work though guys be good to see the finished product
Sorry if I missed it but is it the insurance company that asks for the original panels to be cut off? Just interested, looks all good to me :-)
I was adamant that I wanted the panels to be replaced. I spent 16 years building this car and the accident was not my fault so I felt like I deserved to have it put back how it was, rather than banged out and full of filler. 👍
Couldn’t the rear quarter be saved ? That rear quarter could have been knocked out and straightened easily , now a new rear quarter has been put on , it will rust where it has been welded ! ££££& getting that little dent done and repaired and paid for by the insurance company !
Yes it could have been saved but this was an insurance claim,
And between me and the customer we decided that we would fit new panels
Where can I buy your weldable primer please
Where are you based
I'm from Northern Ireland
Too much GFK..😫
