Huge Royal Navy warship gun deal signed by Babcock

Babcock International has been awarded a three-year contract worth £17.9 million to continue providing critical support for the Royal Navy’s Phalanx Close-In Weapon Support System (CIWS). The Phalanx CIWS is a rapid-fire, computer-controlled, radar-guided gun that can defeat anti-ship missiles and other close-in threats. The system is found on multiple Royal Navy platforms, including the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
The CIWS is equipped with a 20mm cannon capable of firing armor-piercing rounds at a rate of up to 4,500 rounds per minute and can be found on a variety of Royal Navy platforms, including the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
