Just happened to run across this video. Thank you for documenting and preserving the history of this gentleman and times gone by. These newer generations dont have a clue about life, or the ways we grew up in. I used to sit for hours and hours listening to my grand father talk about life and the old ways, war, hard times, the depression, and the history of his family. It seems that we lost a lot of history because it wasnt preserved like this. I hope this gentleman is doing well, and please tell him thank you for allowing you time and access to preserve history.

      I agree
I love listening to stories of years gone by and realize how easy most people have it today. (Me being one of them)
No matter how hard the story, they still refer to them as “The Good Ole Days”!!!
My Father used to tell me …
“If I keep my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open, I might learn something”
      So true…

When you suggested having a yard sale, my heart jumped into my throat. Then, he said," nobody'd want to buy any of that stuff, I thought , the items in this little store would sale out in the first hour! Please don't sell, but turn it into a museum.
It'd be the perfect place for these up and coming generations to visit to see exactly how life was before computers and cell phones. Thank you for sharing this!

I think it would look better if restored to the way it was in the photos. I miss little country stores like that from when I was a kid. They had character, and if it was older you could find really neat stuff tucked into the corners.

These places MATTER. They're part of your great country's history and should be listed and preserved, once they're gone they're gone, and just a memory remains, which itself will fade away. I live in the UK, and the village shop and corner shop have all but disappeared, knocked down and re-developed, usually to make way for housing estates. They call it 'progress' I call it a great shame. Love these videos.

My husband & I just finished watching your program and really enjoyed it all! He is 81, I'm 79 - he was born in Arkansas but got to Texas as fast as he could. I'm born & bred in west Texas, so we married while still in high school. Ran off to Ojinaga, Mexico at 16 & 18 to be married by a justice of the peace, no we were not expecting a baby. Had our first of two children after 2 yrs of marriage. Now, I've told you way more than you care to know, lol. We plan to watch more of your postings and have subscribed to the channel. Come visit Texas sometime!

@@theappalachianchannel Hello, John…. I totally enjoy watching your videos. We live in east Texas…in Price. which is an unincorporated community in Rusk County….community that used to be named Carlisle over a hundred years ago and the school is still Carlisle Independent School District…very small. We are about 60 miles west of the Texas Louisiana border between Marshall on the Texas side to Shreveport/Bossier in Louisiana. Our next to youngest daughter lives in Kingsport, Tennessee…a beautiful area. I am proud to be a third generation Texan from when my great-grandparents, on my maternal side, came to America from France in 1872 and settled eventually in Dallas County where my grandfather was born in what would become Irving in October of 1887…if I were from anywhere else, I would love to live in Appalachia but I can’t leave my beautiful home state of Texas. Love your channel though. Have a fantastic Happy and Healthy 2023! Keep up the good work.

Sunday, 10/9/22 I was browsing, and serendipitously, came upon your channel. I was taught about Appalachia in grade school. there was a time we went to Ashville and took a road thru the mountains. The idea that u guys r real, living, breathing people, who r invested in your homes, & land, generation after generation, etc. somehow makes me feel safe. it appears people r moving around like never b4. we have almost become nomadic. The USA has changed so much, i barely recognize it anymore. I am sure u folks have seen change too. I am delighted i found your channel, i will continue to watch, but i must catch up first. Thanx for posting. I will b bingeing on your material today.😄😄
