For the people that don't know. The sounding of the air horns is the signal for all crew to evacuate the building. There's a lot of radio traffic on the fire ground and sometimes calls get walked on or you just can't hear them. So the horns are used as well, 3 long blasts of the air horns means GTF out of the building.

The fact that not only the firefighters inside made it out, but also the officers standing near those windows took no shrapnel from the glass windows is a shear miracle. You see the glass being thrown into the street as they’re running but it was too late as it was moving faster than they were. It’s a natural reaction to turn and run away, but the courage to turn back around and go back is what defines true hero’s 💜💜

it's not always too late, every inch buys decrease in debris speed as air pressure and debris velocity expands outward, and as immediate as the explosion is just as fast new air filling in the negative pressure void leaps in to fill up the newly vacated space. if you stop this video 4:09 to 4:10 you can see something new going on with the fire every 1/10th of a second
1/10th of a second is how fast it takes a swimmer in water to force their hand from finishing a stroke by the buttocks to back infront fully extended. that's a total of 4'

I will say right now that I'm not a firefighter so I'm asking a question not making a statement. I assume these responders were inside the house looking for a gas leak. If that is indeed what they were doing, wouldn't it be the smart thing to do to call the electric company and have them blackout the block so that there is no ignition source before they enter the house?

My brother and sister in law were both volunteer firefighters for years. I heard my brother talk about the kind of stuff he responded to and the work he did and it gave me such respect. Then, a few years ago, my best friend and I were living together with our combined 3 kids. I was the only one home and decided to go for a walk around our neighborhood. When I circled back around I saw smoke and heard the trucks. I thought it was my upstairs neighbors apt. I got closer and it was ours. Our whole apt had gone up in a matter of minutes. All bc a friend of ours used a faulty charging cord on their laptop and set it on a blanket. The firefighters, police, emt's....all so amazing. Once they cleared the house to make sure there were no people and it was safe, they went back in for our cats who had already been taken over by the smoke. They tried for 45 minutes to save our cats. I was so thankful for their effort even tho they couldn't save them. The firemen even chipped in together and paid for all the fees for us to adopt cats from the shelter when we were ready. They really are just amazing people. Running toward the danger so everyone else can run to safety. 💜💜💜

I have a painted turtle that was rescued from an apartment fire, the owner was a friend of a friend, they lost everything including the turtle's whole set up, tank, lamp etc. They couldn't provide proper care for the turtle due to the circumstances and asked myself and my boyfriend at the time to care for him. The turtle's name is Grim after the cartoon The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Well it turns out he was a she and they ended up deciding they didn't want her back so she's been in my care for nearly ten years now. She was in real bad shape when I took her in, serious heat damage to her shell. It took many months for her to shed the damaged layers but I'm happy to report she made a full recovery.
I am so so sorry for the loss of your cats, my greatest fear is a house fire or natural disaster where I can't save my animals. I am constantly running through evacuation procedures in my mind, I keep crates and carriers nearby in case of emergency. The house I live in is not safe and I am overly paranoid about fire.

It’s kinda like skydiving.. it’s dangerous and a simple mistake can cost you dearly, but the adrenaline rush makes the risk with it. I was a firefighter when I was younger and you get introduced to fire slowly. Lots of bookwork, talking and watching videos. Then extinguishers, car fires and things like that. Then fire lab where you go into a burn room fully geared up and actually witness HOW a fire spreads and see how smoke actually fills the room from the ceiling down. It’s gradual until it almost feels like you know how it does what it does, so you know what to do to make it go out or at least slow it down or make rescues. If you know what it’s going to do next, you know what to NOT do. In this case, it looks like a backdraft. In the beginning a cop said he saw smoke prior but it went away. That’s what happens in a backdraft: fire burns inside an enclosed area but isn’t strong enough to self-ventilate. It gets superheated, consuming all the oxygen in the air, and begins to smolder. You need oxygen to have fire (fire triangle). Take away one element of the triangle, and you don’t have fire. When the firefighters made entry, opening the door reintroduced oxygen to a superheated room with plenty of fuel. The energy released was enough to basically level the home and it’s a miracle all the ffs made it out.

In my jurisdiction, all police candidates go through a week of fire-service training at the state fire-school. We weren't firefighters, but we knew the basics (how to not die in a burning building) and picked-up on some of the procedures (getting a 5" line to a hydrant is pretty critical to keep the pumper supplying its attack hoses). We know, as street cops, that a full-sized fire engine is only carrying- at most- 600 gallons of water.... Not nearly enough to tackle a house fire, so it's a no-brainer to identify the nearest hydrant(s) and drag lines to them if there's no other pressing LE function that needs to be addressed.

They didn't have time to get buses or even more ambulances so they put the critical cases in the ambulances and loaded two out of state Fire Apparatus a CalFire apparatus three sheriffs cars and the hospital staffs personal vehicles with all the other patients and staff and got on the road out. They almost didn't make it but a ballsy CalFire Captain in an open cage Bulldozer with nothing for protection other than a fire blanket pushed burnt out discarded vehicles and fallen burning trees out of their way saving all of them. The out of state FF crew and CalFire crew had to ride on top of and on the running boards in full turnout gear so hospital patients and staff could ride in the cab. great team work and collaboration from the FF's LEO's and Hospital staff. It was a controversial fire for several reasons one being that even though LE and FF's tried to get everyone out the town neglected to contact over a hundred people and tell them t evacuate and they ended up dying. And the cause and party responsible was never held accountable which only made it worse.

It makes me want to help. Every man in the civilized society should have to pull his end for things like safety, LE, etc.

What causes something like that? It looked like a meth lab, but I heard someone say the sewer alarm was going off.

I can only imagine how helpless those officers felt knowing guys were inside but they couldn't help. It really shows when they're all running around trying to find some way to help like when they grabbed the hose and sprinted it to the hydrant.

OH MY GOODNESS! I did not expect to have such a raw visceral reaction to this video.. my son was a firefighter for years and sadly forced to retire as just a kid after a roll over accident in their tanker.. however, when he was still just a yellow helmet they worked a MASSIVE factory fire in our town were we actually were the ones who spotted the fire, so I was on scene as well. It was such a massive scene that I was helping out in the ops trailer. Handing out water and cool cloths to the firefighters. Several hours in, they had a collapse, and I will NEVER forget the sound of the trucks blasting, pass alarms going off, the screams and shouting in the chaos as each company tried to get a head count. There were literally firefighters here from multiple counties from as far away as Atlanta (about 60 miles) who had responded because our no one closer had any really big ladders.. I have NEVER been so happy to see someone come from the smoldering debris as I was that day, and thank GOD no one was seriously injured. The sound of the trucks blasting the emergency evacuation call took me straight back to that day and I’m a sobbing mess.. but I am so thankful none of these brave firefighters were seriously injured either!

Omg! I’ve never seen a house explode like that several times! It is a miracle that everyone survived. I thought I was watching six fire fighters brutal death and I cannot believe that they survived that! Thank you Lord for protecting them and thank you to all the brave firefighters/police/EMTs that put their lives on the line every day to try to save total strangers.
