- Ten years ago, members of the Somali based Islamist group al-Shabab attacked a shopping mall in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The 78-hour ordeal left over 60 people dead.
The Kenyan Somali community felt they became the focus of the security forces. This led to a deterioration in relations between the two communities.
The BBC’s Bushra Mohamed is Kenyan Somali and explains how her community has been affected by the incidents that followed the attack.

They were a pretty sophisticated bunch prior to their nations collapse. Where they even had a female Air Force pilot in 1976, prior to Kenya's independence.
Also, they lead among top entrepreneurs in Kenya and they were also leaders of the phone payment systems during the 90s... Introduced other Kenyans to Dubai and in doing so cut off the Indian middle men.

Is like of late BBC don't get its facts right ,as a muslim,a Somalia and a kenyan diplomat ,I'm at liberty to comment on this ,yes did the kenya security apparatus commited extra judicial killing ,yes they did,did they target certain communities ,yes they did but was it warranted and juatified i think yes, because we always have collateral damage in any security operations .
The Mum is hurting and am so sorry for her ,but why were her other sons never been kidnapped or disappeared, there must be something the kidnapped son was involveed in.
We all know Masjid Musa and some other mosques within Mombasa that were openly used to radicalize youths, Dogs like Sheikh Aboud Rogo even publically supported Al-shabab's trangression and his killing like many others by the government were justified,because the courts failed to succesfully prosecute these dogs.
I know there will be people who will vehemently disagree with me on this ,but no sympathy for terrorism perpetrators.
All it takes is one bad arrest and where you would have had only one terrorist you suddenly have an innocent man's brother, sister,son , daughter, cousin, neighbour turn because of the pain inflicted....not being the devil's advocate but for example, the killing of sheikh aboud rogo was so gruesome and public it probably created recruitment material the terrorists use to date..if I was a young Muslim under his imamship....guess where id be headed after you killed my spiritual leader
These kids are just collateral. Why don't the Kenyan government go for the big fish? The funders are well known by the government. Charity organisations from M.E channel funds to Al shabaab. A lot of the Saudi, Qatar and UAE princes secretly support terrorism yet we are selling our ports to them. Our relationship with Saudi Arabia will be fatal to us. We will never have peace in our country if we allow mosques and charity funding from the middle east.DP world is implicated in the war in Yemen and Sudan.
Kenya is playing with fire. Why can't we lease our port to India, China, SE Asia?
It's just poor understanding of geopolitics by naive government officials. Look at our CS Mutua always praising Saudi and encouraging sending our desperate women to work under kafala/slave system. A lot of them return in coffins. Nowhere else in the world do a people so blatantly kill their workers with no repercussions.

The head of defence is kenyan somali, the head of intelligence (NIS) is kenyan somali, the head of DCI(directorate for criminal investigations) is kenyan somali, up until recently the head of Directorate of public prosecutions (DPP) was kenyan somali. Everyone is targeted in Kenya. Especially broke people. Muslims are often targeted a bit more mostly whenever an incident happens that involves people who I dentify as Muslims. But now, it doesnt matter, just dont find yourself in the hands of the police, especially if you are broke, Muslim or not.
How can you post Al Shabaab messages in your timeline and expect government to do nothing, some were celebrating the attacks.
