I have started using stock effects more, however there are certain plugins where I seriously disagree. Rift, Thermal, Pigments, Kontakt, Blackhole, Raum etc. And yes, I do use the 1176, Pultec, Pure Plate etc. by UAD, and I do use Soundtoys Phase Mistress, Little Plate and Little Radiator (looking to upgrade to the whole bundle tbf because Little Alterboy and Decapitator are soooooo good). Soothe. Need I go on? So while I do understand that any standard EQ, saturator etc. is a slight waste of money, it's good to have a broad sonic pallette and use what works best for you. I still use Ableton's saturator for bass design, but for stuff like clipping for drums, there are much better alternatives (SIR Audio Tools StandardCLIP being one of them). Been trialling Live 12 but can't afford the upgrade rn.
Hahah that’s why I haven’t touched upon synth or instrument replacements. Sure you can do some cool stuff with stock synths (which I prepare a preset pack for) but once you get into Phase Plant or Falcon (two of my favorites) you literally feel the power and endless possibilities. Your choice of plugins is great and as I said at the end of this video - if you feel that you need them to do specific tasks then go for it. I always try to have both intermediate but also beginner users in mind while making those vids and both have yet to discover some cool features of stock tools just before getting some third party stuff… Btw, no offense but…. F StandardCLIP, Kclip and Newfangled Saturate FTW 🤘
As always, thanks for cool updates and saving my $$. Everyday I get emails from plug in companies for fun looking plugins. Now I've almost saved enough to upgrade to Live Suite 12 (end of year sale would be nice). Christmas present to self. Yay!
I bet they will run a sale so good luck with that! And yeah, as I mentioned at the end - it’s not that plugins are bad or something, they can be both fun looking and useful but unfortunately I feel it’s the minority of them nowadays
I just restarted my journey of music production and got ableton suite. I promised myself i would learn all the default devices before expanding. Not my ass on a certain website 2 weeks later downloading like a maniac 😭😭 It's just so tempting 😭😭
hahaha yeah... I remember doomscrolling "certain website" and getting everything as well. I decided to spend the money I make on music on plugins later but yeah... still not the best idea
Thanks a lot 🙏 this month I’ll launch membership here on RUclips and also do some livestreams both normal and “exclusive” ones. I would love to do this at least weekly but my full time job schedule messes up this whole music thing I do here 😅
I have yet to use third party plugins in Abelton since I’ve been in that world more the most I may use DCap and I’ll still use a stock plugin so it won’t be over worked
I believe Live is on sale at the end of the year but If you ever got any midi controller with Live Lite then you can pay less for an upgrade (that's how I got Suite back then)
i don't know if my ears are just fatigued from trying to finish a mix the last days but when i use abletons eq eight just for a low cut, shit sounds harsh/digital against other eqs
Man you've got the point, but don't stop here. Take some plugin on the market and recreate it with stock Live tools. Ok there is some limitation ( maybe not so many ? ) and then you offer à very high value , plus, you ll win our best respect (serious producer mode). It's an hard Work, of course, but it will be good for your business. Post one vidéo per month like this and you ll be the final boss. Rare angle on the youtube game with your nice cool style. Peace
Damn thanks for all the nice words 🙏 I feel like there’s already many recreations (not to mention M4L) that’s why I try to take slightly different approach by making those racks from my previous videos. Final boss of Ableton RUclips sounds great tho 😂
Rule of thumb: stock effects are good, and you should use external plugin only if you know what you need and this thing is not present in stock plugin. Stock instruments are garbage and you probably should use external plugins immediately. Exception: at least one stock synth in any daw is usually pretty good.
100% agree with the first part. Stock synths can be no different than some simple sounds made with third party plugins. I actually made a video about it not so long ago. They miss just one important thing which can easily be added. Of course I love Phase Plant, Current and Serum to death yet still don’t neglect stock synths
Stock instruments are garbage? 😂 Right, I'm not sure why I use wave table, operator, or any Ableton Live stock instrument, silly me, I just learned today that they're garbage
@@flrn84791 so, you don't think wavetable is synth? Or you stop reading my comment after words "garbage"? Coz there, just little bit below is line about stock synths and how they are good often :D
I’ve released a whopping amount of one this year on my Spotify. I still force myself to release more but I guess I’ll have to just drop what I do on SoundCloud with no pressure of Spotify releases.
let people buy if they want...its no different from buying clothes...no disrespect intended, tbh these sort of videos advising not buy plugins can be abit tiresome....yeah we all know that our daws comes with plugins but we still want other plugins ..many people get inspired by changing the interface of the tool they use ...just saying...
That’s exactly why I made disclaimer at the end with basically the same message. Therefore, I agree with you but I learned the hard way that once you switch and jump from plugin to plugin you learn less about production and sound design. Once you learn using stock tools and try to conquer their limitations you’ll get much better results with third party solutions (especially synths)
@@Zdrewe100% agree? I’ve spent thousands of dollars on plugins and when this realisation kicked in I’m only now using like 1% of all the bought plugins currently. Wish I knew this earlier so I could save time and money haha
@@Zdrewe i agree on the risks of jumping from plugin to plugin, though people eventually tend towards their favorite plugins. anyway, it's still ok for others to learn the hard way....cool though....
The secret to saving on black friday deals is reading the manual 😂 learned that the hard way
Agreed, either the plugin’s or DAW one 😂
100%. Read the manual get some note books and study every knob and setting it goes a long way.
I appreciate the reminder of all the great tools I already have in Ableton Live, especially during this sales season. Thanks!
You're most welcome! Stay safe during BF season 😂
I think I use spectral resonator in every project… and it sounds totally different in each. It’s the most special of special sauces.
Same, it's hard to remember if they added it in 10 or 11 since it feels like I used it forever
The spectral resonator trick is awesome!
Thanks! Both Resonator and Spectral Time are so underrated

Thank you for sharing your vision!🙏🏼👍🏼 I really enjoyed it
Glad to hear that 🙏
Not to mention the hundreds of free M4L patches if you have Live Suite.
True that. Made a bunch of M4L videos and well.... the roundup for 2024 is coming soon.
i own live standard but i later purchased max 4 live seperatly as an add-on
Take the pop corn !! A new Zdrewe Movie !! Like it, always instructive and pleasure to watch !! :)
Means a world man 🙏 trying to treat those as movies as well 😅
Can't believe I never understood how dynamic tube works
yo the track for the saturator example slaps really hard
Thanks brother 🙏
@ is it out?
The track you use at 1:06 and throughout the vid is so nice! Is it released anywhere?
Spectral Blur and Spectral Time are such great tools!

@Zdrewe but what if they put the new bestest plugin that will make everything sound amazing and I miss it??? Must doomscroll
SAMEEEE
Another W video!!! Have you ever considered live streaming on Twitch? Only curious cause that would lowkey be sick!

Magic 7 by Wave Alchemy is free atm… epic reverb impulse responses
Valhalla Shimmer is not free

Do DAWs themselves go on sale for black Friday? I think I am officially giving up on Bitwig studio but I only have trials of the rest
I believe Live is on sale at the end of the year but If you ever got any midi controller with Live Lite then you can pay less for an upgrade (that's how I got Suite back then)
Love your videos man. The editing is top notch! Btw it’s pronounced Live Sweet, unless you’re saying it like that on purpose, if so carry on lol
Thanks and well… it’s just my pronunciation I guess 😂😂 thanks for correcting tho
@ Hate to be one of those guys but I would want somebody to tell me. Your videos are really good man
Respect
Thanks 🙏
Oh yes you are right. The only thing i bought is vcvpro for the modular touch. Thats all. Btw ableton could do a deal for an upgrade. 🤔
Nah, for most people it's easier to buy more stuff than to learn how to use what they have 🙃 also applies to synths...
What's that in your left corner, that plugin? Before roar
MiniMeters yet I attached the window to the corner of Live where the info tab usually goes
@@Zdrewe awesome, I'm gonna get that
lol the picture from "Aud..." killed me. LMFAO
The "sister site" will always be in my heart. So many memories
what is the visualizer?? thanks!
No worries 😉 it’s MiniMeters but I dragged modules across my screen to fit empty spaces
Nice mug
Made by my own hands since I work in pottery as well…
Jk 😂
What did you use before Live?
FL Studio for producing and Cubase (and studio one when it came out) for tracking vocals.
@@Zdrewe Thanks for the answer !
How do you add this visuals on the bottom left?
MiniMeters app with detached modules 😉
i don't know if my ears are just fatigued from trying to finish a mix the last days but when i use abletons eq eight just for a low cut, shit sounds harsh/digital against other eqs
It might be the ear fatigue although you can try switching it to high quality mode. Helps with phase issues too
Maybe the sound you're looking for just needs a low shelf. My mixdowns improved a lot when I began using cuts just in special cases

@StanislavBeresnev you can find some of my stuff as a producer under my old name “zdrowus” but it’s far from DnB and mainly in Polish
@@Zdrewe also, a whooping amount of one is still more than a whooping amount of zero 💪

You are funny. You made a video about something obvious.
