I bought six oak trees from Native. Literally some of the healthiest seedlings I've ever seen. Even after being mailed. Very impressed

Very interesting, I always am surprise that some trees are full of squirrels and other wild animals and I been tasted the accorns if they taste different but don't, not to me, but is interesting that a company is developing seedlings from this genetic characteristics, great job.

Thank you Dudley. Also, do you guys prune any leaves off the seedlings to get them to grow taller? It's amazing how the rapid mast seedlings get so high from the spring to the fall by the looks of the other videos. Pretty cool stuff.

Hi NativNurseries, I have a question. Where do you get you air pruning pots for the fast mast growth plants you guys have?

Dudley, I have a question. When a seedling is first starting to sprout, does wind have a negative affect on growth? Does the seedling, in the first few months of sprouting, need a calm environment to grow in such as a greenhouse? Thanks

+16Reddie Good question. Wind does have a negative affect on growth, but it adds strength to the stem. In a greenhouse with no wind you get fast upright growth, but they can topple over because of no strength. Best case scenario is plenty of fans to simulate wind- that way you get good upright growth with acceptable stem thickness and strength. hope this helps- Dudley

Why don't you check to see how the acorns taste to people? Native Americans often soaked the tannin out of acorns, pounded them into flour & ate them. They are a good food for people, too.

I actually believe the answer to the question about why animals pick this tree over that tree has alot to do with how resiliant that tree is to acorn weevils!! And have noticed first hand that they are becoming more and more of a problem with each passing year. Several years ago you might have a handful of acorns that would have holes out of 100lbs. Not anymore! Now it is at least half if not more will have those buggers in them!! This year is the worst i have ever seen!! If it keeps on and is not addressed soon then oak trees will not have any productive acorns. And the animals won't have any acorns to eat.
