Ian McCullough is a genius and I don't use that term lightly. I was lucky enough to see them live in Denver, Colorado in this old theater type place. He smoked cigarettes through the entire show, must of been at least three packs and he held the Bible in his hand for the whole show. They were amazing. Definitely one of the greatest bands ever. I wish I could relive that night.
saw them 2001 (2002?) DENVER MY second time..band played great..MAC was goin through the Motions" Stop yelling out the songs, You know were going To FOOKIN play it.." Smoooke..puuufff. still love them..
Based on what? What "destroyed" him was/is self-destructive tendencies--the drugs, drink, ciggies, self-defeating behavior, etc. He has acknowledged his wife kept him from obliteration. Rock stars, what are ya going to do. All the things that make them great artists are probably the things that hurt them in ordinary day to day life.
By the third album they had become pretentious, he was a drug addled fool by the fourth. One of the greatest bands I have ever seen, many times, but for an old man to be still treading it out with a young band is now embarrassing.
@@jeffdekimpe1746 I saw the Siberia era tour at the Brighton Concorde 2 and the old man still had it. They drove the crowd wild. The Fountain album is the only one that is total shite. I gave up on them after that but then heard a gem on Meteorites so they can occasionally achieve glory when most bands of their vintage are in the old folks home. I do not agree that Mac is the greatest rock star since John Lennon. Ian is the greatest rock star of all time.
+Sky Watcher may be because is the only "commercial " song they made ,but they have made a lot of of fantastic song as "with a HIp or the entire album" porcupine" try it and than tell me if you had change your idea!
IMO you really need to listen again , The Bunnymen have a massive back catalogue of Brilliant songs , over the wall , lips like sugar , my kingdom , never stop , nothing lasts forever ,ocean rain , a promise , seven seas.............
Being inspired by Bowie is not a bad thing. Ian's voice is far more interesting in any case, & you always hear many influences, not primarily Bowie, usually.

Top band, top songs, top singer. They changed my life and perspectif on the world.
Even god has to sound check sometimes! Greatest line ever by Will, Cheers,

lol. Just caught them this weekend. Smoked the whole show.
Americans. Isn't It?
I saw a recent interview where he says he's given up the smokes.
Did Jesus smoke..?
great stuff. Although back in the day, we called them 'the Bunnymen' for short. Echo was a drum machine.
True that!! I had a chance to drink with Will and Ian back in the 90's, Vancouver Town Pump, Gastown…. Best drinks I've had
THE GREATEST BAND.
sterling work, thanks a lot for putting this together!
It was Ocean Rain, not Porcupine, that was given the tagline "The greatest album ever made".
A levels., according to Ian McCulloch.
I think Ian has said Ocean Rain is the greatest Album of all time. However, he is incorrect. Porcupine has no equal and it's not even close.
Will sporting the 'John Cale' hair style...:) Bunnymen 4 Ever!!!
" even God has to soundcheck sometimes"
He has inspired me too.
Getting Married destroyed him, although he did not know it at the time, its obvious looking back.

great video
How did he let you down?
Nice Job on the video.
Slow the text down.....I've broken me pause button.
Ian Mcculloch is a great amongst fools...
Nice! however, it was Ocean Rain that was marketed as the best album ever made...
Did Chris Morris make this as a wind-up?
Even God has to sound check sometimes, lol
He was in Greggs, Central Station.
Jerry Garcia would soundcheck every section of the venue.
what grade did you get on this?
My name is Adrienne, if there is a Ryan out there that used to live in Texas please find me.
@bofursgun lmao.
i share my birthday with ian mcullouch
Are you from from Devon? if so your forgiven.
I share my heritage
Who told Will that hair looked good?
Which, he has stated himself
freaking taurus
You are so right. How can anyone deny it? Cigarettes did it.
No mention of Reverberation?
He never sang on that Album, was't that when they broke up.
yes I know. But Reverberation was a great Bunnymen album minus Ian.
But its titled 'Ian McCulloch: The Last Great Rock Star' so why discuss something he's not in?
@@MsDESERTROSE29 just to upset you

wow cool.. i share my birthday with the death date of ian curtis..

Your comment is embarrassing because it shows that you’re a frustrated person who has never accomplished much of anything.

hmmm I really like Echo and the Bunnymen but I would hardly call them a rock band.
What would you call them then?
Actually the only song that I love is "the killing moon".
To be more precise .... the only song that I love within the music made by echo and the bunnymen.

I prefer his voice now, he's not tryna emulate Bowie anymore
