I'm an old fart who services vintage audio gear. Years ago, I did SMD repair on DVD players (back when a DVD player cost $500), but I can no longer see or control my hands well enough to do that. I love watching your videos. Happy New Year.
Hello, Tony. Its me, the internets. May 2025 be filled with reparable ripped pads and broken solder joints!!! Have a blessed 2025 and a steady stream of crazy expensive 5090s on your bench. Very nice video editing btw.
@@ksenchy Hahaha yeah thats so crazy that 4090 melted like butter in sunshine and now (according to leaks) the card will be a 600W? Thats beyond crazy !
I love your Videos I was previously a big fan of Northridge fix but that seems like a money making enterprise. You on the other hand seem to enjoy what you do and also you go the extra mile to get things working. Nothing better to see a real expert that enjoys his Job
Yeah, glad you could get the card working again with simply reballing the memory chips. However, I noticed that the PCB itself was bent quite a lot, most likely due to being installed horizontally with no bracing for a long time. And since that card also has a massive and very heavy heatsink, its no wonder the pads got ripped from the chip right in line with the crack on the pcb.
Happy new year. I've probably been watching your videos for a year. Up to this day they still are ASMR to me. You're very smart man and I absolutely love your videos.
Happy New Year, Tony. I would not know half as much about GPUs and their construction if it wasn't for you. Thanks for saving many peoples' GPUs. All the best in 2025.
Sometimes I wonder how people manage to damage stuff in such weird way... Like that crack almost in the middle of connector? Do they throw those cards around like pillows?
Dear Tony happy new year I wish you all best in 2025 a bottom of my heart ❤ I learn so mouch from you that I can't say thank you more than enough God bless you 😊😊
Possibly stupid question. But would it be worth it to invest in a test tool for ram modules? Like something with pogo pins you slot it onto and it just runs some automated tests?
Happy New Year! This is my first comment. I discovered your channel last year and have always admired the great work you do. Keep up the good work this year!
Honestly manufacturer RMA sucks seriously bad so send them off to these excellent workers who know how to fix the issues from the smallest issue to a cracked pcb from a heavy 3 slot unsupported card.
I've seen a few videos like this and i had a question. What is the cost for a repair like this? I could see it being feasible on a high end card, but for a mid-range would it be cost effective vs just buying a new card? Not trying to be critical just curious.
Asus will also deny warranty if they see that the card has been opened before, such as marks on the screws. Meaning that the end-user *has* to use the stock thermal pads, paste and cooler for the duration of the warranty.
As much as I dislike corporations, in this case there was reason to deny. The owner dropped or installed the gpu incorrectly. There is a connection between the crack and ram and it's force applied.
These companies that refuse to provide a guarantee to a user in the US should be subject to legal proceedings. They could even be punished financially with a large fine and prevented from selling their products in the US because they are of Asian origin.
I just bought an ASUS RTX 3060 12GB Dual Fan 😐. This is my first GPU after the GTX 10xx Series. Hopefully this is much lower Weight and Length so it's not going to be so prone to Cracking ...

An installation error.
The cards are only tested in the usual mounting position.

Glad to see ASUS is still lying and denying RMA's over CID, someone send this to Steve...
Tbh, if i were ASUS and a cracked card came into the shop, i wouldn’t accept RMA either.
@@niklasniklasniklas1 But it wasn't the cracked PCB, they didn't even look.

@@The_Noticer. never done a RMA request myself, but i assume when sending in for RMA you get photo documentation of damages when they deny RMA.

ASUS got in hot water earlier in the year for illegally denying GamersNexus an RMA over microscopic cosmetic damage.
Just watched his 2024 fails video before watching nw video and found your comment 💀 such a rare case
To fix the cosmetic damage they would have had to replace the case .
Look into what all that would involve.

When doing this do you need to replace thermal pads? Or just put it back together with original pads?
0:44 - That's what she said
Warranty was refused because of a crack which was not the fault .It is much easier to refuse rather than finding out what the actual fault is .
