- West Highlands Sojourn - Robert Sheldon
Inspired by the composer's journey through the western hill country of England and Wales, this delightful piece borrows from folk melodies he heard on a river near the Scottish border. The three sections of the piece provide very effective contrast and, with Sheldon's artful scoring, this is an excellent choice for concert or contest. Splendid!

I played clarinet for this in high school. Can't remember what year.
Getting ready to hand this out to my band students 😁
They’ll love it and get annoyed at it lmao
I played this in band freshman year of high school. I’m a junior in college now. I couldn’t remember the name of this song for the life of me. I played 1st alto sax. I remember I played that mini sax solo at the end of mvmt 2 at one of our concerts and the best player in our section told me he loved it😭looking back I realize I was a lot better at sax than I gave myself credit for. I wish I had put in the work to become really good!
Don’t be me! If you have a gift, please practice and become the best.
absolutely love your advice, i just wish the the other clarinets in my section would give themselves credit because they help me a lot in the section even as the first chair.
I’m playing west highland sojourn this year.
It sounds pretty bad right now but I know for a fact it will get better.
When I got the saxophone I immediately understood, like a little gift. I started to not practice well but I thought that I will get moved down a band since I’m in the top band right now. I got scared so I la starting to practice very very well. And I feel amazing. It’s funny how right when I decide that I’m going to try my hardest I see this comment. I love this comment. I am talking your word into consideration and I’m playing the best that I can! Thank you❤
Btw I also play alto sax ❤
I'm a freshman now, I play Euphonium and the parts slap
Played 1st trumpet on this in wind ensemble nearly 10 years ago… now i’m a senior in college 😭 time flies man
First trumpet is me rn bro
We played this I'm my symphonic band. And I'm the only Euphonium because the other doesn't show up
Same bruh
Low key the 3rd movement for euphonium at the beginning is so fire
Tell me about it
One of the greatest contemporary pieces written for band right here.
Played 1st trumpet 26 yrs ago. Now my freshman daughter is playing it. I still remember the melody.
I played 2nd trumpet in 7th grade in middle school and this was one of the best pieces we played I’m missing those days
I never got to perform this. I got the 1st alto part as a freshman and I was so excited to get it, but covid ruined it and now i feel pain when i listen to it,but at least it is a cool song 😢
7th grader going to play this it seems pretty fun
3rd clarinet playing this
i played french horn all through middle and highschool and this is still my favorite piece i’ve been played

i am currently playing it on horn and i ALSO love it
SAME
I was a Euphonium with a solo at 17, and end of the 2nd movement in middle school (to anyone reading this recently, I am currently)
I’m playing this on my own it’s an honor band piece but I’m only in first year band
I’m a freshman in high-school, and I played this song this year for concert and sight reading. I almost had to play the beginning of the 3rd movement by myself because one of the other baritones broke his hand, and the band director told the other one not to play it.
The baritone part is fun
@@RandumClownCat it really is
I played this piece for MPA this year, the second movement will always be my favorite
Played this in first Clarinet in my 8th-grade year. Holy
I'm playing the first clarinet part on this and I've been enjoying it so much, I started playing clarinet about 9 months ago (normally play tenor sax) and my section leader let me have the solo in the 2nd movement, so excited to play a clarinet solo for the first time!
As a flautist in middle school and playing this with my band, I love this piece soo much, we are playing this for a competition! I’m so excited!
YALL IM IN THE NEXT GRADE NOW AND I JS NOW REMEMBER THIS
i’m on piccolo for this song! i love it
Got this song on first trombone this year I felt I made much more growth playing this song and I got more confident playing my trombone.
I've never been so excited to play French horn till this peace we I'm finally heard 😭
Just got 1st trb for this song and wanted to see what it sounds like. SOUNDS SWEET
I played 3rd trombone when we played this for my final middle school concert in 8th grade. Love this piece to death and holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for the comment!

Same. Listening to this song now makes me sad, since I know I'll never be able to relive those memories.
I play tenor, we play this song everyday, but I forgot what it sounded like! 😂
😁
It sounds kinda weird but I absolutely love having 2nd alto part for all of these and especially 2nd movement bc I get to straight up vibe through all of these big emotional parts plus I don’t feel pressured to have to do great big things or move my fingers lightning fast
Totally agree!
dang I have to learn this song in a week before I go back to band for the first time in a year 😭
Edit: MVT 3 IS THE BEST
God I absolutely loved playing this in high school
I mean we played some really cool sh!t in high school but why this hits so hard almost 10 years later? Not sure, couldn’t tell ya, it’s just a special one

Playing this for county honor band 😩
Yo same here 😮.
4:36
wrong note at 2:27 lololol
What band is in this recording?
Not sure tbh
Coastal communities concert band
Or maybe Dallas Winds
Both are top notch, high class orchestras in todays realm.
Pretty sure this is from the "Images" Robert Sheldon CD recorded by the Washington Winds (a session group comprised of primarily military musicians in the D.C. area).
I play tuba
