  • After months of sitting I finally replace the power steering rack on my wife's old Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2. in the process my Father in law decided to purchase the jeep so i added a 2.5 lift, new touch screen radio head unit, wheel spacers, and our friends over ‪@YITAMotor‬ asked to contribute to the build by sending us some Roof rack bars, which I ended up keeping and putting on Graces 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2.

    I've lifted two WK2 Grand Cherokee's so far (see videos on my channel), I also did a spacer lift first time around on the first one (2011) but no sooner did we install the spacers the struts blew, so I then did no spacer and added the Rough Country loaded struts. The second Grand Cherokeee was a 2013 WK2, I did the Rough Country loaded struts again in the front with two strut shims and JBA UCA's. Both Jeeps I installed Wrangler take off wheels and tires (32") with 1.5" wheel spacers.

    Was the spring compressor necessary to be able to get the bolt across the lower mount on the struts?

    • @CaswellCustoms

      You absolutely need the spring compressor to get the struts back in.

      @@CaswellCustoms Thanks for the reply, and sorry to bother you again, I just wanted to ask how has this lift held up this past 10 months? I've tried searching in Jeep forums online, and there are no videos or written reviews for this kit other than yours. I'm asking because people on the forums say that the Rough Country 2.5" lift kit is not that good, and that the Rocky Road Outfitters kit is much better... Well, from the couple of pictures I've seen, this kit actually looks more like the RRO kit than the RC kit, and at the same price as RC (RRO is like $300-$350).
      I guess the reason why I have my doubts about this kit, is not only the lack of actual good reviews/installs like yours, but also the fact that this doesn't come with a pre-load spacer for the front shock assemblies, and that spacer is supposed to limit the travel of your suspension a bit to make sure that you don't over or under-extend the struts and other suspension components, which could cause some damages to the suspension and other wheel components (CV, control arms, ball joints, etc).
      I'm pretty sure that unless you drive on very harsh roads, or go off-road quite a bit on very rough terrain, these considerations are not that important, since the suspension won't be stressed to its limits on any sort of regular basis... So in that case, I don't think I'd have much problems, I ride in not so well kept roads daily, but good enough that suspension wear is not a huge concern, and I only go off-road about once a month, on a good month.

    When installing the lift did you have to switch the struts out passenger side on driver side ?

    • @CaswellCustoms
      @CaswellCustoms  Год назад +2

      Yes I did swap the struts over to the opposite side

      For the rear does the coil spacer go on the bottom or top of the coil

    • @CaswellCustoms
      @CaswellCustoms  Год назад

      On the bottom, and the shock spacer goes on top.

      @@wilder211 wouldn’t even worry about the rear it doesn’t make a difference I installed this kit it squats hard and will need an alignment cause it drives bad

    How did you get the rear lower control arm down enough to fit the coil spring with the added inches of the spring spacer?

    • @CaswellCustoms
      @CaswellCustoms  Год назад

      Used a pry bar and prayed it down then poped it in, other option would be is use the spring compressors that were used on the front and compress the spring.

      @@CaswellCustoms I ended up getting it no problem. The first time I tried it I didn’t have the shock unbolted from the control. I unbolted and sure enough the control arm almost hit the ground. Now I just need some bigger tires

      @@CaswellCustoms I have the rough country 2” level spacers for the front. For the back I got protune suspension 1.5” spacers off eBay for back coil springs. However the rear spacers ended up lifting about 3.1” for some reason. So now the Jeep has a rake again. But it looks nice sitting up high.
