But the Cold War,the fact that China was a unstable shitshow for so long and the booming tourism industry were probably some of the reasons why Hong Kong was held on for so long when so many other colonies were given independence. It’s actually pretty weird just how widespread English is there, you even have the roadsigns in both Chinese and English.

And a couple guys, one in a white gi and the other in a black gi, were performing choreographed fights as a means of advertising their grand opening. They were attracting quite a crowd. Being just a kid, I couldn't see, but I squeezed my way to the front of the crowd and was amazed by what I saw. They were jumping and spinning. Throwing kicks and punches... and blocking and dodging them. I was just a kid but I was in awe. I'm telling you...those guys were fast as lightning. They fought with expert timing. In fact...it was a little bit frightening... To a kid in the 70s anyway.
Making songs about movies they saw was Michael Jackson's entire schtick. He was a massive old movie geek and most of the songs on his albums were about whatever he was watching at the time, with a stronger leaning into social justice the older he got. There was definitely a market for this and Carl could have done it; problem was he was a little to on the nose. Kung Fu Fighting was about as on the nose as Thriller; but less creative and he didn't quite grow from it.
I could do it. Making songs about movies I've seen... I'd do a whole track about Avengers: Endgame and I would just rant about how hot Hawkeye, the Falcon, War Machine, and Black Panther are.

After watching GoodBadFlicks' recent video on Super Fly, I have some info that I would like to share. Apparently, black people's love of martial arts films started thanks to the Vietnam War. African American soldiers that were fighting in that region discovered these martial arts films, loved them, and took them back home.
They're always so painful. I don't know a single one of the collaborators (except Lindsay but she's playing a totally different character) and they're always so unexpected and horribly acted

Bus Stop is pretty notorious for their half-cover, half-remixes. Their rework of "Kung Fu Fighting" was their first of several songs that ended up in DanceDanceRevolution, by virtue of their appearance in Toshiba EMI's _Dancemania_ series of compilation albums. Seriously, half of early DDR was built off that franchise.
May I just point out that Todd mentions he wished he made a cowboy song, a gangster song and a slasher song, and then made one-hit wonderland about all three of those subjects (Cotton-Eyed Joe, Night Chicago Died, Maniac).

+Dan Smith The Last Dragon is movie not a musical. The main focus of the movie was about Leroy Green and Sho'nuff. Laura Charles and Eddie Arkadian was more of a side plot and the movie only had two music numbers (or three if you count The Glow song when Leroy and Laura was alone in the studio), one was a LeBarge music video and the other was the 7th Heaven number that Laura Charles did. I'm going to take back having Rap Critic in the review. Reviewing the movie aspect and structure would have more weight to it which the Nostalgia Critic and Cinema Snob can provide than the minimal music aspect.
blackfoxx86 You are right that the last Dragon isn't a Musical, but I'd still say half the plot is about Music/Entertainment industry. I'm saying that Nostalgia Critic would add nothing that Snob wouldn't, and snob would add a bit more with exploitation. The movie just fits more into those three's wheelhouse than the critic's, who, I'm not even sure if he has one anymore.
One hit wonders are usually simple, catchy, low entry level songs. Something anyone can get into. Also, after such mega hits, it's just nearly impossible to top it. So they're a curse and a short term blessing.

Kung Fu Fighting was my favorite song when I was a kid from the age of 5, and is still one of my favorites to this day ^_^ Ever since I was a little kid, martial arts was a huge interest for me and once I had a chance to train under proper teachers at 19, it's been an incredibly huge part of me as a person and always will be. Sure when I was little I liked the song because it had a great tune to it and was really upbeat in addition to it involving Kung Fu, but I still love it because it's just fun. I'm 26 now, and this song along with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc. got me very interested in learning about the history and culture of various Asian cultures, especially China and Japan.
The difference between 74 and 2001, in 74 zeppelin were still releasing their classic run of albums, the who were touring, etc etc. In 2001, all we had was The Strokes and The White Stripes. Not counting metal, but that is in a world by itself. Pop is only contextualized by the actual good music beside it.

Funny how all parts of him performing live are taken from German TV channels: N3/NDR, 3sat, 1 festival, sat.1... (you even see German comedians).
I especially liked the dotty N3 logo, but we´re only in there for our relevance in one hit wonders.

I really wouldn't want to see the critic team up with any of them because he really wouldn't add anything to the discussion. I'd Want Snob there to talk about the Exploitation part of the movie, and i'd want wither todd or Rap Critic there to talk about the Music.
+Dan Smith The Last Dragon is movie not a musical. The main focus of the movie was about Leroy Green and Sho'nuff. Laura Charles and Eddie Arkadian was more of a side plot and the movie only had two music numbers (or three if you count The Glow song when Leroy and Laura was alone in the studio), one was a LeBarge music video and the other was the 7th Heaven number that Laura Charles did. I'm going to take back having Rap Critic in the review. Reviewing the movie aspect and structure would have more weight to it which the Nostalgia Critic and Cinema Snob can provide than the minimal music aspect.
blackfoxx86 You are right that the last Dragon isn't a Musical, but I'd still say half the plot is about Music/Entertainment industry. I'm saying that Nostalgia Critic would add nothing that Snob wouldn't, and snob would add a bit more with exploitation. The movie just fits more into those three's wheelhouse than the critic's, who, I'm not even sure if he has one anymore.
One hit wonders are usually simple, catchy, low entry level songs. Something anyone can get into.
Also, after such mega hits, it's just nearly impossible to top it. So they're a curse and a short term blessing.

Kung Fu Fighting was my favorite song when I was a kid from the age of 5, and is still one of my favorites to this day ^_^
Ever since I was a little kid, martial arts was a huge interest for me and once I had a chance to train under proper teachers at 19, it's been an incredibly huge part of me as a person and always will be. Sure when I was little I liked the song because it had a great tune to it and was really upbeat in addition to it involving Kung Fu, but I still love it because it's just fun. I'm 26 now, and this song along with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc. got me very interested in learning about the history and culture of various Asian cultures, especially China and Japan.
The long build-up and then subsequent smash cut at 7:33 is a masterclass. Always the best part of rewatching this video.

The difference between 74 and 2001, in 74 zeppelin were still releasing their classic run of albums, the who were touring, etc etc. In 2001, all we had was The Strokes and The White Stripes. Not counting metal, but that is in a world by itself. Pop is only contextualized by the actual good music beside it.

I was 9yo and a skinny white kid living in S.E. D.C. when this song came out. We actually had a black guy in our neighborhood called " Kung Foo". He had long sharpened fingernails and was always kicking and chopping shit. This song brings back memories of my childhood. Gotta love it!
