I'm sure he has his own answer, but it seems like he's been smart to keep the goal 1 TTRPG related Zine each month. Not a dungeon each month, or anything specific. It's generic enough that he's able to switch up the topic of the zine depending on what he is interested in doing at the time. So sometimes it's been about how to draw maps and characters and stuff, and other times it's been adventures, either parts of a longer campaign over 3 zines, or individual oneshot dungeons like this one. Seems like a smart format because it's basically just whatever he is currently interested in, he channels into a zine that puts it together and makes a finished product out of. It's almost like a journal or documentation of the things he's into/working on throughout the year. I could see it getting really boring if it had to be dungeons every time or anything more specific and restrictive. He even switches up what style of map he draws, to keep it interesting. Sometimes squares, sometimes hex, sometimes isometric, sometimes realistic spacing, sometimes a more cartoonish overworld map that is more artistic and not proportional spacing, etc.
This was really helpful! Learning basic grid-mapping is an immediately world-expanding skill. Also, "Flik Silverpen's ___(setting) of the ___(situation/antagonists)" could fit your naming format; (you might fit 'GUIDE' at the bottom of the cover) FS's Temple of the Waking Thread FS's Rivers of the Exiled FS's Caverns of the Voidspeakers FS's Mines of the Last Dwarrowking
Hey I've been watching your videos alot recently to re inspire me, but I was wondering if you could do a video on drawing the details of a 4 x 4 page with the intent of blowing it up... like how do you know how big to make things so that when the minis are there it looks right... I might have made a bed 2 tiles wide... and like 4 long...
I plan on doing a video about enlarging maps at some point for sure. The easiest way to keep things consistent is to plan your grid first. Most miniatures have a 1 inch base. When you draw on a smaller grid, like a .25 inch grid, you know that you'll enlarge the map x4 so a single .25" grid square will be equal to a single enlarged 1" squre.
I’m doing an isometric setting map for the main base my one shots originate from (for ✨ambiance✨) but this method will let me keep my dungeon and battle maps in the same style!! Thank you!
Here's a question for ya: How's the drawing of all the monsters in the monster manual going? I love your whimsical drawing style. Could there be a Flik Silverpen's Guide to All the Monsters? Probably not due to copyright issues, but still...
Here's one for you 😅 Do you use a particular system to run your adventures, and if so, which one is it? There are lots of cool ideas in your channel. It's always inspiring 😊
Any plans for a Postal dungeon series? Its my favorite idea ever lol! Also happy new year mate great job great content hope you catch your dreams in your hands. Pce
I’ve watched your dungeon drawing videos idk how many times and take such inspiration from them is there any chance you would ever touch on doing Sci-Fi versions??
Not a question for next video, but have you ever played Tunic? I finally picked it up the other day and I had such a blast! It's a beautiful mix between retro and modern gaming and it definitrly gave me some good inspiration
I got a few to choose from! 1. What was your first ever DnD Character you played as? 2. What was your first graphic project you felt really proud of? 3. Have you had any one-shot ideas that grew into something more than a one-shot?
Hi, JP. When you were explaining how you create one-shots, do you do it in the same setup as your zines (where the whole adventure is just a few pages in length)? Or do you do it more like a D&D campaign book where it's multiple (like 80 or something) pages with tables, full sections of dialogue, shop menus, bestiary, etc? I'd love to see some of your longform stuff. Zines are great, but I'm really interested in how you run your campaigns and write your adventures.
The zines and adventures are the same thing. Each zine has tables and descriptions and everything you need (besides game specific stats) to run the adventure. I personally think the official D&D books are too long and hard to run games from. And they especially don’t use art effectively. I have a few longer campaign type things like Asterlan Odyssey, but that’s still just 3 zines.
That is the tricky part! Sometimes is better just to disconnect stairs and other connection points between floors and give more space so everything can fit!
Uhmm I just recently realized that the game I was playing was a type of DnD and I didn't even know what DnD was at the time.I've never even played a game like this before😢, I've only ever played DnD Story and Life in adventure, I hope you also make mobile games with your work regarding ttrpg and DnD whatever it is, I really like it! Looks interesting! 😊
Bro I swear you are amazing
I love isometric maps, and was really happy to see you doing this!
Question: I’d love to hear more about your experiences running your adventures at the table!
Beautiful map and fascinating story ideas!
I really like the sound of “The Temple of the Waking Thread”.
Since you release new TTRPG zines monthly, how do you keep the motivation going? Do you have creative blocks?

question: have you ever done a mega dungeon? how would you make various interconnected maps look fresh and have variety?

Omg this looks so fun I have to try this

love your art. Want an omnibus of the zines
Super looking forward to this one!

Kinda already do this on my patreon, just a bigger scale. New zine every month!
Hey JP. Here's a question: Do you know any people who make commisioned maps? I would love to know more artists.
If you have a specific project send me an email (on my website) with details and I can point you in the write direction!
Merry Christmas
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting to write their own TTRPG adventures? What are some pitfalls to avoid falling into?
The Gloomtide is a great name and image.
Could you do a book on the basics of isometric dungeon maps?
It might happen in the future, but it will be a while!
@@JPCoovert, thanks that would be wonderful learning the skills for it. I love the three books I already bought from you.
Question: Is it a grail shaped star?

It’ll happen eventually!
Great map!!
If you saw the thumbnail and immediately thought this was going to be about the video game "Marble Madness", let's all have a round. +cheers!+ :)
Loved and hated that game as a kid!
🍻cheers

It’s literally next on my list!!!

That's will be the longest one shot ever! ~Brian
Depends on the game, but yeah might be 2 or 3 sessions of 5E :P

How did you build your following?
I feel like you've mentioned it before in a video last year, maybe....but where do you get that paper?
I made it myself but have a link to something similar in the description :)
@@JPCoovertThank You! ✌🏾❤️💛💚✊🏾
I really enjoy Your work and channel!
Just tried my hand at 3d maps and one thing
I'm struggling with, depicting layers that go under layers

@@JPCoovert what about a secret door behind a bookshelf in a library with a second floor of books above?

Oh gosh. No, please, no. Please keep TTRPGs separate from the greedy money pits that all mobile games are now.
Plz make more paper dnd characters
:D
