    Only in Texas would an innkeeper just happen to have a cannon ready to be fired at a moments notice

    • @EagleKai
      @EagleKai 3 года назад +410

      IIRC the cannon was on the main street of the town (Congress Avenue). When she saw what was going on, she ran down the street to where the cannon was and fired it. As for why it was loaded, it had grapeshot loaded to help defend the town from raids by the natives in the region.

    You should definitely look up the “County Seat Wars” that happened here in West Virginia after the Civil War. Essentially, there were several counties where the new railroads didn’t go through the old county seats and the railroad companies wanted them to be moved to the new towns that had sprung up around the railroads. In one particular instance in Tucker County, around a thousand people from the railroad town of Parsons invaded the county seat of St George, broke into the court house, stole all of the records and documents, and even the bell from the bell tower, and took it all back home to Parsons. Now Parsons is the county seat, and St George is just a cluster of houses on a back road.

    Minnesota, too, had a conflict over their capital, although it was bit calmer.
    While Minnesota was still a territory, a territorial governor pushed to move the capital form Saint Paul to Saint Peter, around the then more populated south of the state. (said governor also happened to own the land that the Saint Peter capital would be built on, so he'd become very rich from this exchange) As the bill was finished being passed in the legislature and was on its way to the governor, one representative took the bill and ran off, hiding away to drink and play cards until the bill expired.

      Well if it’s important to retain economic or political power, I can see why the cause wouldn’t be seen as dumb to some people.

    Honestly I don't get the beef with these shorts. The only problem I can think of is that the aspect ratio is weirdly narrow, even if they are shorts.
    There: some constructive criticism, as opposed to the unhelpful and inarticulate snarling that some people seem to be engaging in.
