From my own experience: I always feel a little awkward when I am doing this. And 99% of the times I am doing this, I am alone in my practice room. Second reason: it's actually harder than you think it is. Even when I just play simple paradiddles and start out with singing the pulse, a minute into the excercise I often realize that I have unconsciously stopped it.
