I love this guitar. It has a slightly shorter scale length so someone with smaller hands like me can play chords easier but has a standard nut width so my fingers don't feel cramped. The sound has a nice mid range sound I like. Not too "big" like a conventional sized dreadnought. Lastly due to it's smaller size, it is more comfortable to play than a normal size guitar. I have martin retro 11's on it. Perfect balance of playability and tone.
I have two of these ( the original Martin Dred Jr's not the newer one's with triple 000 depth) and love them. One with natural top, one sunburst. They sound and play great. Gig ready too !
@@nirwanaeathell Either one is good. Try both if possible. For me the Martin Dred Jr. fit my style music and playing. The Dred jr is all solid wood and sounds warmer. The GS Mini has a bit brighter sound ( except for the koa & mahogany models) Taylor GS Mini has solid top , laminate back & sides. Let your ears decide.
i was in the same dilemma and i tried the djr10 spruce, the older djr sapelle and the gs mini mahogany. I got home with the djr10. Very comfortable (more the the older one) and with a great sound. The mini was a little louder with better gig bug. But the djr10 won in every other battle. I especially loved the warmer sound and the wider nut width! Plus...ALL SOLID WOOD! The older model was ok too but not that comfortable and maybe i do not like the all sapelle sound. Too "under the water" sound for me.
Here's a question. New gen dreadnought junior (djr-10e) has been criticized for not having a "martin sound" that older djr had because it's shallower. But I've seen some suggest it's due to strings. Do they sound noticeably different?
Great review once again! Noticed you ve also reviewed the Yamaha csf3m, a possible competitor of this martin as it is a smaller body all solid guitar, although a bit cheaper. Are you in favour of one over the other for a good reason? I m interested in buying one of them but still waiting for the Yamahas dealer to import some so that I can try it in person. I ve played Djr 10 and was generally impressed, but it was set up with a very high action... Thank you in advance!
It pays to play a guitar before buying one. I intended on buying either a Yamaha or Taylor. I wasn't expecting to like this Martin but was very surprised at how great it is.
I just noticed that my Martin DJR 10E has a silver writing on the headstock instead of the gold/yellow. Would you happen to know what that means and what’s the difference?
Caleb Johnson thanks, mate. Got word from a Martin rep saying that the new models are now going to come out with silver logos and that’s mine included.
IMHO that's a bummer, especially considering I suspect none of the online retailers, except maybe Sweetwater, will update their photos :( so people won't be getting what they expect.
You might be in the same boat as me. I own three full size Martins of different models and really want to own a travel guitar as a beater/travel guitar. I've been to stores twice trying to find one that speaks to me, but I also find they don't sound in a way that grabs me. I plan on going again, but with the mindset that I can't expect them to sound like full size dreads and 000s, but wondering if I can live with the tradeoff of trebly sound with the convenience of a travel guitar. The interesting thing is, these guitars actually sound better over a mike in a video than they do in person. That's where you really notice the difference with full size guitars.

You are an incredibly great guitar player.

Does the body feel noticeably smaller when you hold it?? Smaller than dreadnought??

very good review. subscribed to you.

what mic are you using there?

Is the top, back and sides fully solid?
Yes , all solid wood guitar.
would love a review of the Blackstar sonnet amp
Can u do Cort a8 gold !! Awesome reviews guys
very detailed
GOODDD REVIEEWW
I have the same model. Why does my sound different when using pickup? Is it the strings is that a Retro.?

Radtech intheUK I’ve heard this before. Don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

Hi Acoustic Review! May i know where the pick up is connected? Is it in an audio interface? Or direct to an amplifier? Thanks
Hi, the pickup is DI'd straight into the interface - no EQ etc etc, Ben
Is the body really as small as a 000??? It appears big here??
its the depth like 000(new version), not the size
Look so much nicer with a gloss top !!!
I think the satin top makes it louder though. But yes, it would look nicer.
Only thing that lets this guitar down is the gig bag. Compared to Taylor’s it’s dog water.
No 12 fret join?! Fking ridiculous
too bright
Harsh trebles and upper mids. Sounds cheap and nasty.

Something is really wrong with ur ear mate
@@capohd28 I would not say "trebly sound"; I'd say it's more balanced than the older, bass-heavy D Jr. The D Jr 10 is fantastic for fingerstyle.
