Exactly. That's some very wise advice from your mother. Now they are blaming the government but they made a choice to come together in such massive numbers. There's something called personal responsibility. But hey i guess that blaming the government is much easier.

That’s silly. So no concerts, festivals, parades, sporting events, inaugural events of any kind for you huh. Funny I’m 40yrs old been going to all those my whole life & never been so much as injured. It’s laughable the statistics.. you’re far more in danger of death or serious injury every time you leave your house. Stop spreading fear.

I agree. I live near Disneyland in California. I was there one time several years ago on a really crowded evening. It was after dark and a lot of people were trying to make their way to see a certain event. There were Disney cast members (employees) doing crowd control but at one point I was in a crowd so deep that we were just shuffling along. Even worse, I'm short and surrounded by much taller adults - elbow to elbow - so I couldn't see anything - just had to keep slowly moving. I was thinking to myself, "Please everyone - stay calm, stay calm. Nobody panic..." I don't remember anything else about that particular visit.

Unfortunately, no one is taking responsibility and most blame the police actions although they did what they could and the religious department didn't assist in opening the area for the masses of people. Even the fact that government annual reports ( back in 2008,2011) have said this is a disaster waiting to happen as the place is not fit for this kind of gathering didn't matter.
Government is afraid of the religious community as they have so much political influence... They allow them privileges no other community get in Israel. As they couldn't gather last year no one in the government wanted to restrict this event this year..
The lesson will not be learned. This would happen again.

Same thing happened in Shanghai at the Bund on New Year’s Eve in 2014. I actually arrived there before it happened but went into a nearby bar with some Italian friends. On my way out I saw a lot of police were on the scene to guide the crowds leaving in orderly manner. At the time I had no clue what happened. And I watched as medical personnel were giving emergency aid to people on the ground with a circle of police to hold the perimeter around them. Later I learned that 36 people died that night...
Ever since that incident, every new year eve celebration had tons of police presence there for crowd control. I’d avoid such crowded places from now on.
