I just discovered the first gen model and was impressed by it but was reluctant to purchase because of the threading, I'm glad I did a little more digging and found this one, definitely going to pick it up now 😀
Just got my EDC v2 and threadless carrier today! Then I realized I didn't have a 1/4 15mm socket or cassette locking tool :( But then I get to buy new tools! So it's a win-win.
This is well engineered. I like the threaded stem cap idea, instead of having a star nut, but this is also a really good design. Seems like a lot of thought went into it lol. Might wind up buying eventually.
I bought the Oneup stem a while back. It is a very nice solid stem but it is also surprisingly heavy. I put it on my e-bike where weight is not such a big deal, every other bike, thread that stem!

fyi fox 34 2012-2015 works with edc v1, maybe even v2, with the threads tapped. I took a gamble and found it works great, only exception is the full size storage capsule doesn't fit as the diameter shrinks down lower in the steer tube. Not sure if the compact capsule fits. But the tool itself fits flawlessly
Since here in Europe no bicycle shop has the tools to get the thread in your tube, you need to buy everything yourself and after a one time use its just sitting around... I would probably still go for the threaded one because it looks more minimalistic. Actually I´m in the market for one for 11 month already. It´s just always sold out or out of stock since forever :D
I keep a good chunk of purple fentanyl, a couple squares of tinfoil and a few cut up mc Donald’s straws. Just incase I break my collar bone again or need a quick trail side hit! Highly recommend any professional racer carry a good chunk of fetty incase shit hits the fan and you are in need of a good long term fix.
Just bought this set for my 2021 Scott Spark with the newest Fox 34 Performance and it's literally the same length as the steerer tube so I need to add a few spacers since even the shortest included bolt is too long.
Got one for my hardtail that has a raceface turbine r35 stem that I prefer now I can just swap the tools between bikes without spending extra coin on another edc stem. I'm a machinist and was already thinking about something like this seems like they read my mind. I'm not much of a fan of the edc stem with preload ring it works but this setup is better in my opinion.
I use the Specialized, steer tube tool. The top cap looks near stock, yet twists a spring mechanism to reveal the tool. If you need to use the chainbreakerbyou use the tool to unthread the bottom for nut. It has a space for.a chain link and I added a short length of chain just in case. Just another alternative!
At 5:21 it’s mentioned to remove the O Ring, why is that the case as it’s not mentioned to pop it back. Just got this tool for Xmas and installing it so want to know if it has to go back on. Cheers
If you haven't figured it out already, the o-ring does not go back on. Without the o-ring on, the V2 tool should slide perfectly right into the Threadless Carrier. It will be difficult to get in and out with that o-ring on.
A star nut is a special nut that gets its name from its star shaped metal flanges, which keep it securely fastened inside your steerer tube. Together with a top cap and bolt, it allows you to compress the fork and headset components together, removing unwanted “play” between these parts. “Mushrooming the washer” refers to a washer folding in on itself (creating a mushroom shape) when force is applied in one direction from a bolt, and the washer is not supported over an adequate amount of its surface area from the other side. This causes the bolt to start to “push through” the washer in the middle, bending the washer and creating the mushroom effect.
One thing you didn’t mention that I would have is that the large storage capsule doesn’t fit the threadless carrier, and you can’t use the master link pliers.
I have to say, I think I would've bought this threadless carrier had it been available at the time when I purchased my EDC V2 Tool. However, after threading 2 forks of mine, I really prefer the threaded top cap (and threaded steerer tube) vs. a star nut. I can't imagine the headset ever coming loose now. Not that that was some nagging problem, but it has happened a few of times over the decades I've been riding. However, if you ride XL/XXL frames (with long head-tubes), and like a lot of stack under your stem, this threadless carrier is compatible with significantly longer steerer tube lengths, which is definitely nice.
Im affraid it lowers the efficiency of my headset. I got my hands on a very inexpensive chrisking headset which is pretty expensive - anybody got experience on this?
Will the edc v2 with a co2 fit in this? I've heard rather mixed reviews from riders locally who have tried the stem and constantly having issues of it becoming loose regardless
@@TheLostCo no worries , just weighing stuff up for what can I get out of the bum bag and hidden on bike 🤣 got a HUGE bum bag but the more snacks you can fit in the better !
I would prefer if the tool threaded into the carrier. Eventually it might wear out enough that it does fall out. It's essentially just a stem lock with some space up the top. Not sure why anyone would get preload issues unless they are doing something wrong.
I guess this must be heavier than the threaded version? Looks really cool though, and a great convenience to not have this stuff in pockets or a backpack. Not for me right now though, I'd rather spend the money on something even more gimmicky like the TyreWiz
It should work since it depends on the fork steerer tube, not the top cap. I do understand the confusion though since canyon make weirdly shaped top caps, which i think look cool.
This doesn’t work on straight steer tubes. The inner diameter of straight steer tubes bottleneck as you go down, so the carrier will get stuck and won’t go all the way in. I’ve advised OneUp to update compatibility fine print on their website.
It is somewhat hard to describe, but it is hidden by the spoke keys on the tire lever. Use the t25 to loosen the spoke keys from the tire and you will be able to use the valve core tool from there. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! (360) 306-8827 or sales@thelostco.com
