The Kia Soul EV is a unique boxy car with a smooth drive, a slightly fidgety ride but a bunch of practicality and nice quality of life features. But with the Niro EV priced so similarly, and rivals looking much more premium, does it have a place in the market anymore?

We just got our second BEV in this 2023 Kia Soul and love it. Th Niro was just a bit too big for us as a secondary vehicle and we always park both vehicles in our home garage all the time. our primary is a 2020 Tesla Model 3 LR so the Soul was a great choice for us for around town and good boot space. All the things you’ve pointed out ring true but we personally all love the looks. so appearance is very subjective. It’s a great BEV and we know it will operate for many years as we plan on keeping it for at least 10 years. Hardly ever have a need for any DCFC so trickle charge every night will not impact the pack at all. it’s very comfortable and practical and we got one of the last available here in Canada since Kia stopped selling them last fall. If you can find one and like it i certainly recommend, however the Niro EV or e-Niro is same price point and is a bit more modern so that would be a great alternative. Again for our needs and use case, we did not want a bigger vehicle and the Soul is a perfect fir for us. Love it.

Thanks for stopping by! I recently stumbled across your channel watching Rivian content and enjoyed your coverage. I'm glad you found your ideal car! I definitely agree on the Niro, I think its the better car overall but can see why you went for one of these. I enjoyed my time with it even though its not my thing!

Good review, I've got one and I'm not even disabled.
Mine is a 2020 First Edition which was decent value when I bought it with the government discount.
Believe it or not, I love the looks.

The styling seems to be love it or hate it. The people who love it, really love it! There's no denying its a very practical size, even if I'm not keen on the looks. Thanks for watching!

Dan, good review with some excellent points. I bought one as a second car/ London run around in 2020 and it was £32k (with the then discount).Better value and less competition. It is great. Love the looks and mine is blue which many have commented on positively. The white/red is odd. Build quality excellent - zero faults. Niro is/was the dull choice and didn't want people jumping in thinking I was their Uber ride.

I actually love the looks having changed from what I think is a pretty bland looking Niro which looks like so many other identikit car shapes. It's subjective of course but I think it's great!

Nice professional review, very man like lol 🤣
I coming from Nissan Leaf and thinking go for used KIA Soul First edition. Tho currently Im driving another car, 2024 Atto 3 SUV which is up to last tech with huge tesla size screen and so on. But believe or not, Im so tired everything on screen and no buttons that I give up. Also ACC so paranoid on Atto that no use in city. No speed limiter also, practically no regen.
About design... I found Niro design so dull and boring... this Soul- its fancy. White color makes Land Rover like, well. Will be like Atto 3, love and hate it.
Even if I can live with Niro design, max out trim for used is about 18-20k, while max out Soul first edition 15k. Plus 10-speaker Harman Kardon system, ambient disco lights, highest sitting position in this segment and range compare with LEAf-oh man 😆.
Only thing I dislike is infotainment screen design, its like from 1990 and "one paddle" instead of "one pedal".
