A master indeed you are .I have been playing for over 50 years not even close to your level.Especially at that slow speed and that thumb, and great signing.Thank you for sharing.
How to make that powerful sound with your thump? I’ve been trying for some time now but it still sounds almost nothing. Darren, you’re also a true inspiration! Thanks a lot!
Superb! One of your best performances in my humble opinion. And maybe one of the best of Robert Johnson. (I'm gaining ground, if not winning. Have created my own interpretation of 'Come into my kitchen'...).
You are just absolutely Lovely :D. Great feeling and love towards music just shows so clearly!!! Absolutely wonderfull!!!! I wish all the best to you :) Greetings from Finland ! ~Matleena~
Dude you pretty good. I have a 2020 Gibson LG2 50s reissue. I love that guitar. All the rest of my guitars are Nationals. I did not have a wood body guitar so I got one. It is my standard tuning guitar. I want to get an old 1950s wood body Dobro. With round neck and round screen covered sound holes. Oh and a Tricone and steel body style O. So many guitars so little money ; )
What's amazing about Robert Johnson and a bit later on Lighting Hopkins amongst others, is the enormous impact they made on music. It's hard to believe that 'Kind hearted woman' was recorded in 1936. And when you compare this talent and creativity with much if today's rubbish, it's a sad reflection on present times. All the real musicians, and composers, (like Phil Collins and Mark Knopfler, etc.,) are in their late seventies. One notes in 'Kind hearted women' that Johnson makes a personal reference to his drinking. There's something slightly incoherent regarding these lyrics. You have made slight changes in your excellent interpretation. This personalisation made me make more important lyric changes to match my own personal story and interpretation. If you are interested I could send the results. Many thanks again for your inspiration.
True, but don't think for a minute that Johnson was being entirely original. He was hugely influenced by a LOT of his contemporaries. Check out Kokomo Arnold, Lonnie Johnson, Leroy Carr, and Skip James.
Interesting. One imagines they were all pioneers of blues, often improvised, born of slavery and the depression. But in the 20’s and early 30’s this music blossomed and it wasn’t limited to Afro-Americans. There were others like Scrapper Blackwell. I also think it’s a fallacy to believe that ‘only they’ (Afro-Americans) are qualified to sing and play blues. It’s a precious source of influence to everyone who appreciates it, and can do their own thing, and build on it, as you show us so well, for an example. It’s also the best homage one could ever pay to musicians like Robert Johnson, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and all the thirties' blues artists.
Hi Mike. This is a 1958 LG-2. Different beast to the L00 but definitely in the family. You can hear it recorded properly here: music.darrenwatson.com/album/getting-sober-for-the-end-of-the-world-2
@@darrenwatsonmusic wow…sure has that same bluesy sound does'nt it…. Ive recently discovered the Gibson smaller bodied guitars.. and what made me think it was a L 00 was that slapping of the bass strings.. and the high strings sound.. really nice. Love old country blues. My L 00 is so suited to them its just amazing. thanks for the reply.. again.. Love your stuff and will be looking for more.

Well done! Thanks for sharing this - trying to learn this tune with one of my guitar students.
My version is obviously very paraphrased from the Robert Johnson. No one can do what that guy did imho.
