Two things are at play:

A European problem requires a European solution, not an American one. Leave us out of it!

@@shploonsk might as well leave nato while you're at it with that attitude. Don't think military strategists would agree with you. As a European there are more or less only two things I truly burn for in geopolitics: military defense self sufficiency against a Russian threat without having to rely on the US, and immigration control. The European part of NATO should have a bigger military industrial complex than USA's. They don't have to be separated, projects like NASAMS where Raytheon (USA) cooperate with Kongsberg group (Norway) for SAMs are a great example of what the NATO alliance should be like.
I'm disappointed that the blame for Russian advances is laid at the feet of America.............WTF about the EU, when will they step up and defend Europe. America has been backstopping NATO for decades.

Eu has done a heck of a lot more for America than america has done for us Military wise..
@@darkbozo11lolwut? That is absolutely not true. Half of Europe's military tech is American made. Europe couldn't even afford their militaries without the US covering the costs of creating most of it. To say nothing of the many situations that the US has intervened on Europe's behalf across the globe.
Whether it is fighting in West Africa to aid the French, backing up Britain off Hong Kong (before they left the island), providing a nuclear umbrella for Poland, or even things like fighting piracy and other threats to maritime trade from the straits of malaca to the suez canal, the US has been maintaining Europe's security for *decades.*
To say nothing of our intelligence sharing, because much of western Europe relies on American satellites and CIA assets with only Britain being a notable exception that can do that itself.

@@darkbozo11 Okay, so if we left tomorrow, you wouldn't give a shit? I would happily vote for that if the way your acting is how europe sees this bullshit.
True, but in return for US defence of Europe, we are the miserable peasant servants of America, and as it was America who started this war.
@marckenny3131 Trust me when I say it doesn't look like that from this side of the pond. All you hear in the US is how everyone in Europe is happier and has better lives and free healthcare and less crime and better schools. And, for a decent enough chunk of Europe, it's true.
People in the US tend to feel more like they are Europe's hired guns than as if they were superior to Europe.
Obviously, milage varies on those comparisons, but no one ever compares the US to Serbia, so most people in the US only see comparisons to select countries on select points.

My guess is when this runs out we’ll look back and say “if we weren’t so late before we wouldn’t need this package” blaming American politics while European allies continue to not contribute their share.
honestly though, i don't get why media keep guilt triping americans but europeans aren't helping ukrainians
The issue isnt the individual nations, the problem is the excessive and unbalanced influence of France and Germany on the union itself. Germany didn't want to help and France wanted to use the crisis as a way for their vaunted 'strategic autonomy' to get off the ground by only expanding European industry. We could have spent the past few years buying in shells and equipment from around the globe, really flex the wallet. But no, instead we are following some politicians puritanic pet project and ignoring the reality on the ground that Ukraine needs those shells today, not in two years when the factory comes online.
Meanwhile many individual nations have done everything they realistically can. Denmark and Estonia donating their entire artillery parks or large parts of them for the cause. Poland cracking open its cold war bunkers and modernized leftovers and shipping them over the border. Basically everything bar stripping the clothes off and sending those too has been done by much of the former eastern block nations and the UK. Its the EU's leading nations that have failed the west and Ukraine, not the European allies as a whole. But because their policy has such an outsized influence the fact that three of the four strongest Ukrainian allies, Germany, France and the US, have been paralyzed for large portions of this war might have turned a good chance at victory into a very difficult endeavor.
The reality is, various countries in Europe (and Germany in particular) have been contributing significantly to Ukraine already
@@OZOZOZ968that’s because outwardly we are attempting to stay out of Europe’s issues. But per two world wars we are expected to continuously be the financial backing and provide to save all those European countries that should be defending themselves. There are a few countries in NATO that refuse to follow the guidelines that 2% of their budget is used for defense. Germany is too wrapped up in trying to be the good guys now taking in everybody. So that’s a burden. England hasn’t really tried to even get anybody into their military for a few decades. France are little fighters and don’t forget their past. Everybody just sits and watches and wants us to do their fighting. Then we meddle undercover and make it worse. But we have our own problems that we need to sort. We can’t always be the savior of Europe. The American public is just plain tired of being the savior mostly. We don’t want to send our children off to war unless it is a threat directly to us. But yet everybody expects us to.

Also German is making up for YEARS of undercutting their alliance commitment, something that could have deterred the situation in the first place. Not to mention sending 🇷🇺 billions for 🛢️.
One of the immediate positive effects is that Ukraine can now fully utilize their ammo stocks that they were rationing since a huge influx is on the way.
What influx? Just like every other time, most of that money will go to line the pockets of the US Congress/Senators and corrupt Ukraine officials. Very little of that money will reach the front lines. Russia has already broken through in several areas. They know this is a losing war. They just figure may as well make a few more bucks off of the American taxpayers.
And possibly run out before the stocks keep up? No. They need to keep rationing until they are ready at a steady rate.
That's not going to win the conflict. They are outnumbered , out gunned and Russia has air superiority. Ukraine is gone within six months
@@urubissoldat5452You’re both right. Ukraine will likely accelerate their artillery consumption by a great deal (if they had supplies for 3 months shooting 1000 shells a day, they’ll likely crank it up to 2500 or 3000 so they have enough for a month.
Biden will have likely to relayed to Zelensky how much and of what type of shells they’ll be getting and when, American logistics are top class so they’ll likely arrive on time. Please Please Please do a hypothetical war gaming of Russia attempting to invade Poland just so all these people can see how crazy that would be. Ukraine was a nation with a dismal army and government that was teetering on the brink of being a failed state. And even with all that against it they still have managed to punch wayyyy above their weight once they were given US weapons. Poland is an absolute powerhouse with a first class professional army and it's a nato ally. It is nothing near as vulnerable as Ukraine and it could likely stomp Russia back into the stone age without us supporting it.
It's more likely russia will 'invade' hungary after Ukraine. Most probably they'll be welcomed there.
people should stop getting information off russia through western sites though. Obviously the west is going to underplay its enemy. But russia is not going to get "stomped into the stone age" by poland lmfao. Russias biggest strength is its natural resources and sites that help in war time efforts. A tennis court may give a bigger GDP than a farm, but a farm is infinitely more useful in a state of war.
Obviously, a developed country is far harder to invade, but that goes for every other country not just russia. If America or israel tried to invade iran for example they would probably fail for a large amount of time. Its just that invasions are way harder in the modern world
At this point Ukraine definitely has the best land forces in Europe.
Beyond any reasonable doubt.
Because they have the most active duty personnel, most tanks, most fighting vehicles, the strongest air defense, the largest artillery and by far the most experienced soldiers.
@janissturitis2386 yes but that's only because they are being armed with hundreds of billions of dollars worth of American charity. Any nato ally can expect much more support as well as american troops. If you add that to the fact that Poland already has a ton of first class military equipment and a very large very well trained professional army you have to admit putin would be an idiot to invade it. I'm not saying Ukraine hasn't evolved into a real powerhouse because it has, but it was a lame duck military and on the verge of being a failed state before the Americans just basically gave them world class weapons and taught them how to use them. Poland on the other hand has a very strong government and economy and a first class military. If putin thinks he has a headache in Ukraine then Poland would be his worst nightmare.

In war there are no game changers only parts of a machine. When you are missing parts the machine does not function. ATACMS and F-16s won't be game changers. They will be parts of a machine for the Ukrainian war effort. Tanks and HIMARs weren't game changers, they were part of a machine. Ukraine going after logistics was Ukraine trying to break a weak part of the Russian machine. Ukraine going after the Baltic fleet was Ukraine going after a weak part in the Russian machine. Now Ukraine is going after oil refineries, another weak part in the Russian machine.

That's not the problem, the vote was 3:1 for aid which closly matches the actual public support, the problem was that a minority faction was able to block a clear super majority from acting, that is the root of nearly ALL US political problems, that Republicans have mastered the art of obstructing the majority.

Ukraine is fighting one of the largest armies in the world. Think about this for just a few seconds and it should be clear that is nowhere near enough.
If we add in Europe's contributions, we're at around 12% of the US' military spending. This is the largest war since WW2. Simon CLEARLY made the point the whole way through: It is up to the US *and* Europe to do their respective tasks. Ukraine is not capable of winning this war without outside help. Period. And that help needs to come from the largest military on the planet (the US) *and* from Ukraine’s neighbors (Europe).

Appealing to nativism to get our country to intervene is shitty. It seems interventionists are now just adapting their language to a country tired of wars, citing major businesses getting money is somehow our "domestic economy." I do agree with the isolationism. I agree with solidarity with Europe. But not on some liberal democracy sense. I can also tell you this war is a forgone conclusion. I'm more interesting in Europe building out its industrial base, federalizing its army, introducing militaristic politics. Including Canada. But needless to say, I want to stay out of a war with Russia. Ukraine made its bed by basically asking for bi-annual donations and not building any industrial base, which is a failure.
Why am I, an American, more concerned with Russia's expansion then all of Europe. What is Europe doing?
I did some looking into opinion polls. I'm honestly very happy that the leaders of different European nations are supporting Ukraine as much as they are, even though their population isn't. This is specifically aimed at any Germans who might see this. Wake up and do better.
You need to think in context of WWII. All of Britian and most of western and eastern europe spent DECADES after WWII recovering economically from the war, few parts of it went without heavy damage from bombs / shells etc. When they finally did get economic stability to a degree and "things got good" they wanted to relish it and focus just on it... meanwhile, the US went unscathed in the war (other than pearl harbor). The 2nd world war created a Golden Age in the US that lasted decades and it didn't need to recover, it was thriving thanks to the war and became the world's greatest super power because of it. So when Europe started to get comfortable, it became all too easy to stay comfortable and neglect their military... meanwhile, the US thrived so immensely it could afford to spend obscene sums on its military.
