The issue isnt the individual nations, the problem is the excessive and unbalanced influence of France and Germany on the union itself. Germany didn't want to help and France wanted to use the crisis as a way for their vaunted 'strategic autonomy' to get off the ground by only expanding European industry. We could have spent the past few years buying in shells and equipment from around the globe, really flex the wallet. But no, instead we are following some politicians puritanic pet project and ignoring the reality on the ground that Ukraine needs those shells today, not in two years when the factory comes online.
Meanwhile many individual nations have done everything they realistically can. Denmark and Estonia donating their entire artillery parks or large parts of them for the cause. Poland cracking open its cold war bunkers and modernized leftovers and shipping them over the border. Basically everything bar stripping the clothes off and sending those too has been done by much of the former eastern block nations and the UK. Its the EU's leading nations that have failed the west and Ukraine, not the European allies as a whole. But because their policy has such an outsized influence the fact that three of the four strongest Ukrainian allies, Germany, France and the US, have been paralyzed for large portions of this war might have turned a good chance at victory into a very difficult endeavor.

@@OZOZOZ968that’s because outwardly we are attempting to stay out of Europe’s issues. But per two world wars we are expected to continuously be the financial backing and provide to save all those European countries that should be defending themselves. There are a few countries in NATO that refuse to follow the guidelines that 2% of their budget is used for defense. Germany is too wrapped up in trying to be the good guys now taking in everybody. So that’s a burden. England hasn’t really tried to even get anybody into their military for a few decades. France are little fighters and don’t forget their past. Everybody just sits and watches and wants us to do their fighting. Then we meddle undercover and make it worse. But we have our own problems that we need to sort. We can’t always be the savior of Europe. The American public is just plain tired of being the savior mostly. We don’t want to send our children off to war unless it is a threat directly to us. But yet everybody expects us to.

Ukraine was a nation with a dismal army and government that was teetering on the brink of being a failed state. And even with all that against it they still have managed to punch wayyyy above their weight once they were given US weapons. Poland is an absolute powerhouse with a first class professional army and it's a nato ally. It is nothing near as vulnerable as Ukraine and it could likely stomp Russia back into the stone age without us supporting it.

A tennis court may give a bigger GDP than a farm, but a farm is infinitely more useful in a state of war.
Obviously, a developed country is far harder to invade, but that goes for every other country not just russia. If America or israel tried to invade iran for example they would probably fail for a large amount of time. Its just that invasions are way harder in the modern world

I'm not saying Ukraine hasn't evolved into a real powerhouse because it has, but it was a lame duck military and on the verge of being a failed state before the Americans just basically gave them world class weapons and taught them how to use them. Ukraine is fighting one of the largest armies in the world. Think about this for just a few seconds and it should be clear that is nowhere near enough.
If we add in Europe's contributions, we're at around 12% of the US' military spending. This is the largest war since WW2. The 2nd world war created a Golden Age in the US that lasted decades and it didn't need to recover, it was thriving thanks to the war and became the world's greatest super power because of it. The threat not being able to manipulate citizens easily with a narrative can not be understated. The most important fact is that Ukraine needs far more ammo than anyone, including the USA can ever provide. Even if the USA bands over it's entire inventory of all remaining 155mm artillery shells, they would use it up in 6 months
The 5 million that remains represent over 15 years of production when the USA has more factories working on it.
    Now they barely have 2.
Then a few days ago, the British PM says they are going to increase their military spending to a whopping 2.5% of their gdp by 2030, which is 6 years time.
The UK still fails to realize that their economy is dying fast. And all if this is just for show as the whole immigration things has totally eaten away their economy.

Europe learned nothing from the German violation of the Treaty of Versailles leading up to the World War that followed.
Not that Russia has any kind of similar treaty to serve as a warning, unfortunately the war in Ukraine is serving that role instead.
No one may want a world war, perhaps with the exception of Putin himself, but Europe needs to start gearing up like it's exactly what is coming. Because if they don't, and it is, the thousands of lives already lost will be nothing compared to the millions that will follow. That is, of course, with the assumption that everyone plays nice with their nukes, and it doesn't turn into billions of lives lost.
