    I do not understand the hatred for this game. Is it mana from heaven? No. Is it the worst thing ever? No. It's another Bethesda RPG that has its charms and flaws, as all Bethesda RPGs do. It's Bethesda doing what Bethesda does better than than last time. I do have my complaints, like how playing the pirate is a lot less fun than it should be. The game does try to push a morality on the player. I don't like it when games do that. It's not in your face, but it's very obvious the moment you start with the skullduggery.

      A lot of youtubers are just farming the algorithm. If you look at the active player demographics, hundreds of thousands of people are still playing Starfield. I saw a video where someone pointed out how a bunch of the negative reviews on Steam are people who have continued playing it for hundreds of hours after their negative review. If the game was trash as their review said, they wouldn't continue playing it for 100+ hours more.

Reminds me of OuterWorlds which another game I really like. I expected fallout in space vibes and they pretty much hit the mark. I wasn't expecting Star Citizen or Elite Dangerous or No Man's Sky like a bunch of people seemed to be expecting. That seemed like unrealistic wishful thinking.

      Hate apart, people have fair criticism, it's a good game with a lot of flaws that people keep forgiving because "it's a Bethesda game". It's good but it's very flawed, it's enjoyable but has many frustrating mechanics. You can like it but still wish it was better.

    Starfield is a great game. It's not perfect, it's not for everyone, but it's a unique experience that I find really engaging. I think you actually get more out of it by going slow and just taking in the locations, but with a lot of games these days people are just trying to 100% the achievements as quickly as possible. From what I've seen the "Main Quest" isn't really the story of Starfield so much as an in-game justification for letting you be an all-powerful space wizard, if that's what you want. The real story is all the side quests and adventures you get sucked into when you aren't trying to harvest 132 more plants to get that next badge.

      I saw someone highlight a Reddit post about a week ago that pointed this out. There are a bunch of reviews apparently that gave a negative response after 30 hours and now have 200+. So they started playing, decided early on that they didn't like it, but they KEPT playing for a LONG time. Does that make any sense?
      I very much enjoy the game and am not at all in a hurry to "get to the end." I am about 200 hours in and just hit level 41 last night. I run quests and if that gets repetitive, I start exploring and survey all the planets and moons in whichever system I am in. If I get tired of that I build an outpost or start crafting or customize my ship. Then I start more quests. The base game has enough to keep me interested until the DLC is released, and then I can start a new character and run through with mods.
      Starfield satisfies me in a way that Skyrim never did, but I can understand why some people don't like it. I just hope the negative reviews don't convince Bethesda to try to turn it into something else. The suggestions I see to make it more like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen worry me. There's a reason I am playing Starfield and not those.

    I’ve engaged in a few of the habitual drama queens but got tired of entering their cry room called the comment section. Is the game perfect? No. Is any game perfect? No. I can take any game and break it down into why it sucks. I’m an old time gamer from intellevision and Atari beginnings. Games have always had a short life span for me. 4-6 months of play and they get shelved and forgotten or sold/traded. Till Oblivion came along. It broke that cycle for me and since then every Bethesda game has continued that new standard for me. Are they perfect? No. Yet I still play them all over a decade later which is unheard of for me and unique to Bethesda games. It usually takes a year after release for the entire game to be fleshed out and all dlc and content to be released and after that initial year it just gets better with modding. There is many things I wish were different such as loading screens, follower system, morals for followers, Hab design and homes, out post building, and so on but does it stop me from enjoying the game? Not at all. I’m over 500 hours deep. Several playthroughs. Made several videos. I’m running a 5600x with a 6700xt at 2k ultra settings and 169 mods with ReShade and still average over a 100 FPS. And still enjoying it. Any game will be whatever you want it to be. It’s all personal objectivity.

I hardly touched the outpost system when I first started (mistake) and now (NG+) I can't get enough. Anyone who says exploration is boring hasn't tried it while looking for something specific, how it fits with your outpost network in a way that makes sense. If the bit you're standing on is a *good spot* for any number of reasons, etc. The game is amazing, and I'm stunned at how long I can play at a stretch without a break. Can't wait for the DLC.

    I've been playing since the Early Access (took breaks here and there between playthroughs) but I still love the game after 230ish hours. It's probably my favorite game and I really don't understand why it gets so much hate, even 11 months later. I've been playing BGS games since Oblivion, and I don't think this game is any worse than any previous BGS title to draw the kind of hate that it has. I have my criticisms of the game, but I still enjoy it a ton. If someone is being reasonable and objective as possible (understanding that art/games are subjective), giving it any less than a 6 or 7/10 is unreasonable. All of the reviews giving the game below a 5/10 or above a 9/10 are just garbage and gave me more reviewers to avoid due to either being a complete hater that is hyper focused on only negatives or a fanboy who doesn't see any criticism of the game.
    I really think that the game has been undeservedly hated. Does it deserve criticism for some things? Sure. Do those things warrant an unreasonable amount of hatred and negative videos? Absolutely not. Give the game another year or two and we'll start seeing a lot more "Starfield is underrated" and "We were too harsh on Starfield" types of videos. Even on the Starfield subreddit, there have been a lot of posts in the last few months talking about how someone was disappointed with the game (due to negative YT videos, Reddit garbage, general lack of interest, etc.) but picked up the game again and are loving it. I personally find it to be a 7.5 or 8/10, and I know that rating will rise as we get more content. It's a really good game that did a lot of things right, and the foundation is there to make this game even better with updates and DLC.

    The music is why I couldn't pass up the higher tier version, I NEEDED the score and the art book was a plus. I just wish I had been given legit mp3 files and not forced to listen to it using that xbox launcher crap. I can listen on Spotify on the go at least, but why did I pay for something I can't transfer to devices and take with me? Blah. The whole package, though, I've never seen its equal. But I'm the type, like you, to stop and smell the digital roses.

    The suggested content I keep getting proves how algorithms can be problematic, and its really a shame. A lot of them seem to be bandwagoning to farm engagement.
    Ive been a BGS fan since the Morrowind days and I cant help but awe at how far gaming has come. It was truly the physical scale of the cities that blew me away, as well as the gun play. Sure theres plenty to be improved upon, but as a general rule in life I try to not let that take away from the things that were handled really well. Starfield isn't a perfect game, but that doesnt mean its not a good game.

    My only real complaint is the Outpost system is a giant step backwards in the spreading of civilization that Settlements were in Fallout 4. And the fact that Outposts basically have no story value. I mean, as much as we all got annoyed with "another settlement needs your help" from FO4, at least there was a purpose beyond farming resources. I used to enjoy the aesthetic effort of building in FO4. I just hope someone fixes it when Creation Kit comes along.

  • @perceivedvelocity9914
    @perceivedvelocity9914 11 месяцев назад +3

    I agree that the music is good and the game world looks nice. IMO Starfield stumbles in a lot of other areas. My primary issue is the lack of choice in the story. A good RPG allows the player to make moral choices. There is one linear path to follow. It doesn't matter what dialogue that you choose. The main story never really changes. Also, all of the sidekicks that you can recruit have the exact same opinions. Since every member of Constellation wants the same thing they all react the same way. Good luck if you want to be a bad guy. Starfield's companions do not swing that way.

    • @daddymacdown
      @daddymacdown  11 месяцев назад

      They do explain that every member of constellation follows their own morals and they don't care what you do outside the lodge. All they care about is finding the Artifacts. Just because everyone shares a common goal doesn't mean they all act or feel the same way about shit. That hasn't been my experience thus far anyway. Maybe it'll change though. I'm not that far in quest wise

  • @SWATOPR8R1
    @SWATOPR8R1 11 месяцев назад

    I think the game has potential... but the developers did not go the extra mile to make it perfect.
    It is said that the game was essentially playable 1 year prior release. But that did not motivate the devs to deal with the design flaws of it. I can not imagine that they said "oh our city maps look great"... or "that is the best UI ever created"... or "non-stop repetition of assets, that is what players will love".
    The game has issues... I really hope for this game that Bethesda keeps their promise to support the game with fixes and improvements long-term. With a bunch of dedicated improvements (not only from the modding community) the game can become pretty good.

    Okay, it’s yet another iteration of their old engine and okay, it shows in some areas but it still looks fantastic. I play open world games for the sense of wonder and the joy of immersing myself in a vibrant and exciting world I can RP in. I think I fell in love from the opening scenes. The writing is good, the characters have, well, character and so far all the quests have been excellent. I play with a smile on my face.
    I could do with the lung disease bug going away but otherwise I’ve not hit any serious issues. Sure, we can all point to other games do aspects of this better. You can’t beat Mass Effect for characterisation. You can’t beat Cyberpunk for city design. You can’t beat C.O.D. etc for gunplay or Elite Dangerous for space flight mechanics. But Starfield is crammed with game systems in the 7-9 range and delivers an experience for me that is greater than the sum of these parts.
    As for complaining that a 1000 planet universe has loading screens? Give me a break. That space combat could be better, I’ll grant you that but it’s way better than some reviews are making out.
    When it comes to modern space games only The Mass Effect Trilogy beats this for me when it comes to story and character but that’s not open world. Maybe Cyberpunk is a more technically accomplished open world game but it’s not a world I want to spend any time in.

      When Covid came along and we were all locked down I played Microsoft Flight Sim all the time. It set my spirit free somehow. Starfield gives me that same feeling.
      I can understand a game not being for someone - that’s me and Cyberpunk. I uninstall and move on - I don’t act like it slept with my wife and shot my dog like so many reviewers.
      Bethesda seems to bring the worst out of some people, I can kind of see why but I have been playing Elder Scrolls since Arena and Fallout 76 aside, they’ve always delivered me hundreds of hours of fun. I’m going to have to write a Steam review to counteract the negativity.

      This game is definitely not for everyone and that it totally fine but what I've seen in some of these reviews is just ridiculous. Bethesda had one release flop with 76 and now everyone wants to act like they are the worst game devs in the business. They even stuck with it and fixed it from what I've heard. Cyberpunk does that and everyone shits their pants. People are coming off pretty hypocritical imo.@@stevemiller6053

    I stopped playing.
    The good:
    Spaceship building.
    Gun combat.
    Some of the quest line missions are quite good.
    The Meh
    Space combat - meh. Not awful but seen it done better.
    The bad:
    The repetition just got to be too much.
    - 1000 planets! And they have rocks. And abandoned outposts - always abandoned outposts.
    - A few different flavors of side missions but they quickly repeat.
    - Even side quests with distinct dialogue are really just repeats once you get into them
    Space travel is menu selections and load screens. That eliminates the "what's around the next corner" immersion that I have felt with past games.
    The NPCs are really bland. They look awful. They are obnoxious. Nothing about them pulls me in or makes me care at all.
    I am generally a huge Bethesda fan. I still play Skyrim and Fallout 4. Starfield just didn't do it for me. Put it aside for a year and see what modders manage to make of it.
