I am not close to my father. He burned that bridge over and over again until I had to cut him out for good. I can't watch Iam Tongi's performance without feeling a pit in my chest and tearing up. It has nothing to do with our own fathers, but a man's understanding what that relationship is supposed to be between a father and son at the core that hits the nerve without fail.
in my situation I try to forgive but there’s always something deep down still hurting. I do forgive my dad because I take my kids to see him and everything …. Later on I start thinking of how I always have to take my kids to him and he don’t even try to see them. Exactly like my child hood….. I had to go to him every summer, ….13 years old instead of driving me 6 hours back home he would put me on a bus home. I would never do that to my kids because I LOVE them. I can’t explain the love I have for my kids.
“while you're sleeping I'll try to make you proud So, daddy, won't you just close your eyes” Anyone that’s lost a parent or in this case a Father, this song just hits different. It’s an emotional song. Master piece by James Blunt & such a beautiful rendition and delivery from Iam Tongi.
This song hits on a few different chords. I’m ugly crying even tho I didn’t have a relationship with my Father. That hits in the song as well. “No need to forgive, no need to forget, I know your mistakes and you know mine”. What a song. Thanks
Omg son you made millions around the world cry not only because of your story your song choice it is how you delivered you could feel the emotion and your voice omg so pulls you in you brought back the pain the loneliness of when my dad passed you are amazing son your future in the entertainment industry will become reality my boy well done
I tried so much to hold back my tears but I just couldn't. I lost my dad 2 years ago to Covid , I spoke to him on phone a night before he died. So sorry to hear about your dad too

Something you should know about Tongans in general, our culture is all about music, christ and family! Iam Tongi is just a representation for our Tongan Community! He made us proud and he reminds us everyday of how grateful we should be for our elders!
My favorite Tongan is Talanoa Hufanga, safety for the San Francisco 49ers. Super prideful and humble dude...knows his roots and where he came from. Love that dude!

All good men seem to really feel that weight handed down from Father to son “it’s my turn to chase the monsters away”--so powerful. Such a sweet singer.
I have seen this before and I laughed when you said in the beginning that SHE would cry! lol. I have yet to see any man, anywhere, listen to this song without breaking down! Women? They think it's beautiful, but it touches men in a way that is just.... deep!!!
You understand the Polynesian Culture. He is so young needing to carry-on for his daddy. That song was the perfect dedication to his Father. Songwriting was Amazing, it hit so many people in the middle of your heart. I love thé Line “It’s my turn to chase the monsters away.” I’ve seen more guys cry on reactions to this heartbreaking performance. I hope he makes all the to the end. I’ll never forget Jasmine Trias on thé 3rd Season, this is another out of Hawaii, he reminds me of Hawaii’s Singing King IZ
Search for Iam Tongi “One More Day”. It will get you to his family’s youtube channel. He has so many songs where his dad harmonizes with him. They’re incredible. Love your reactions.
We're definitely rooting for our Polynesian brother at American Idol 2023. We don't watch this show at all But this year we want to see Iam Tongi Win or at least get signed by some Big labels so that he can move his family back to Hawaii ✊💯❤❤
Thank you for reacting to him, I love your aloha for our Hawaiian people and Polynesians in general!! I love that I found your channel, I have seen other channels react to him but your channel just hit different so I had to subscribe!!
my parents got divorced when my sister and i were very young. for at least 30 years, we haven't had any contact with our father. he only came back into our lives about 3 years ago, met his granddaughter, and then last year he suddenly died of cancer..... like my sister said it's unfair! you just start to know each other after such a long time, and then he's taken away from you again.... it sucks! yeah, i am feeling this one to....
Anytime I stumble on someone viewing this for the first time I can’t help but acknowledge that Iam didn’t just win his season of American Idol, he won the entire show as a whole.
I get it i lost both my parents years apart i stayed strong by keeping busy and shutting out all emotions wow i listen over and over day and nite and ball my eyes out Iam is so amazing the delivery of this song wow it helps so much in acceptance God bless you angel❤❤❤❤

I want to share something with you all. This song seems to touch men more deeply than women, and I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's because the artist, IAM, had a father figure who played a crucial role in shaping his musical talent. Rodney, IAM's father, knew his time on this earth was limited, so he went out of his way to sing with his son. When IAM was asked about his father's passing, his response really struck a chord with me. Death is a difficult topic to broach, especially when it's someone who played a significant role in shaping who you are. I think men are particularly affected by this because of the unique bond they often share with their fathers. That's just my take on it. Sending love to everyone.
Well the song is about a son singing to his dying father so it would definitely touch us differently. Its somewhere most of us either have been or will be in the future with our own sons.
you can def see how the men get emotional with this performance ans deliverance. just something abt the song and his story is so emotional that hits a nerve for men, fathers and sons.
Your REACTION is in us... & thank you young woman for COMFORTING the husbands soul and its so pleasing... ESPECIALLY when he said leaving Hawai is a PRIZE 🏆 SO SPECIAL, thanks... very much to the 2 of you beautiful people... From 🇵🇬PNG Pacifica Ocean across Hawai across Atlantic to 🇺🇸 America got TALENT... We, shed tears 😭..
In Hawaii our parents means the world to us weather you parent was a single parent or co parenting or just a normal family when we lose that parent we fell a broken connection with the land family and people we idolize our parents because they was their for us from the beginning I lost my dad 18 years ago and listening to this broke me down
In 1987, I was on vacation in Hawaii with my wife. I received a phone call that my dad was in the hospital and to get home quickly. We were able to get home just in time to say goodbye to my dad, it was like he held on before passing, like it was ok to leave once he saw me. This song hit home and made me cry like a baby. Beautiful tribute to his father!
Lost my dad 20 years ago. Only 1 song could make me cry before and it’s Dance With My Father from Luther…this song make 2 songs that can make me cry. There are a bunch of videos of him singing with his Dad. You’re gonna cry more. Get the tissues.
I haven't lost either of my parents, yet. But they're both quite a bit older. I know it's coming and it absolutely destroys me thinking about that inevitability. Especially my father. We were not close when I was growing up. Not because of him but because of my life choices. It wasn't until about 3 years ago that I had the opportunity to try to repair some of the damage I caused. I didn't think I'd get to tell my parents I loved them before they passed. And luckily I have been able to do that. I said all that to say, this man, is a legend. So heroic. Watching him sing this song for his dad that he so very clearly loved and misses, will never not make me cry. What else is there to say? Amazing. I think this specific performance is the measuring stick for whether you're dead inside or actually human. Makes me wonder where Katy Perry's mind was to not shed a tear.
You both have some great insights on Iam, culture, and even father and son relationships. Iam has to go all the way for what he’s done for America. Literally uniting people thru his voice and music.
I lost my wonderful dad when I was 20 he was 42 my heart broke my hero my first friend and love. Missing you dad now 52 years I am 72 and I still love and miss you so much your little princess ,,💕
Hello guys My name Javier I'm from San Antonio TX I love this reaction video you guys posted I actually use it to prove a point the way you both differently react to the singer at the beginning sir said to your co-star you said that she would be crying but at the end you couldn't even hold it together this was beautiful where she hardly any emotions compared to you women could never understand what it is to be a father most women are giving everything that a man/father has to fight and earn every young man comes to a point in their life when they understand there is a road a son walks his life but there is a road they must choose when they become a father
The song was hard on me too. The last time I saw my father alive, I was walking out of the front door. This old school Marine was weeping like a child begging me to stay. I was in the Army and had to return to my unit because we were deploying. He passed away 3 weeks later.
This performance was like a love bomb drop off from heaven to the earth for people to see, this kid will change a lot of people's lives and even heal broken hearts, what a powerful performance. It's a lesson for all of us to learn to love our parents and everyone else, how beautiful our world is if everyone loves and be kind to everyone. God bless everyone who are struggling with what ever you are struggling with. Love and peace ✌️ I am proud to be a Polynesian.
It’s so awesome that you care to help in some way so families don’t have to be priced out of paradise. I pray blessings on you for even entertaining the idea of helping in some way and may God use you sir.
More men father and son relate to this song. People talk about the bond between mother and son, father and daughter, mother and daughter. There’s just something so special for a father and son. A dad is an example of how a man is to his son, whether good or bad. The son learns how to be a man from his dad. I was lucky my dad was my hero and he like iam dad Rodney gone to soon. God bless and the Dads who should their sons how to be men.
I'll answer his question, losing a father means two things: you lost your hero, a real hero. And also you realize you're the man and you have to step up. You daddy will not be there anymore to help you on your travel, you're on your own and hopefully you'll be the hero to your sons or daughters. It's the turning of a page where you go through two griefs, the death of your father, and the death of you being a son.
