This is one of my songs... Hard to tell the difference between Switch and Debarge because Bobby and El Debarge sound so similar. This is all family... The Jackson's weren't the only talented family.

They are right up there with the Jacksons as far as super talented families - but they were a whole different vibe. For one, they would fight in a heartbeat 🤣. But seriously, in the talent area - they were writing, producing, playing piano, plus had tight harmonies from being raised in the church. It would probably blow your mind if you googled how many r&b or hip hop artists have sampled their music. As others have said, their legacy started with their older brothers Bobby and Tommy who were in the 70’s group Switch. Bobby was the first one we heard hitting those high notes into the stratosphere effortlessly. Eldra aka El is the one hitting the high notes on I Like It. I was waiting for you to get to the last part of the song because that part blows everybody away. That's El DeBarge! This family wrote and produced songs that were sampled for huge Hip Hop and R&B songs later on. They're super talented.
El Debarge (sitting bottom left of his sister) is an underatted songwriter and singer. He's the lead singer on most their songs. His sister-- Bunny-- sings lead on another hit song of theirs called: A dream.
Family turmoil from their youth, the music industry and drugs caused them to disband after seven years on the charts. All the siblings are talented.

One of my best memories was seeing Debarge and Luther Vandross live in the 80’s….kind of odd combination I guess but it was so dope. Yes they are all brothers and sister (Bunny) and their were other siblings with solo projects.

Bunny is the oldest of the 10 siblings. Her brothers in the group are Randy,Marty,James and El. The family has a very abusive and traumatic past which led to the family curse of drug addiction. You should watch the ‘Unsung’ episodes on Switch and DeBarge, it’ll give you some insight into the groups.

Randy actually sang lead in the recorded version and El sang the chorus and those high notes. Live, El was lead on this song which is why he can sing it solo til this day.
