OMG I love her.
Right!?
I suspect, with the popularity of the Star Wars Cantina scene, that's why we got these random aliens here, and a lot of the odd choices in the Battlestar Galactica line as well.
Yeah, I had an Ovion figure as a kid even thought I didn't remember them on the show.
Never had any of these, they probably were here but I never saw any in the UK. They look great!
I actually don't know if they were sold in the UK!?
For whatever reason they didn't really have this figure readily available in my neck of the woods. She'd have been a good mix with my other sfi fi like you said, though I can't imagine having troop built her. And cant really see too many other kids having done either dispite the line being so in need of a troop builder (still no idea why no golden metal men; those could've been second to only the the stormtroopers in popularity. This brought back memories though of a different character. As much of a fan as I was of Flash Gordon (the cartoon and Gold Key comics), Captain Arak was my favorite-looking figure of the line. He looked pure 30's sci-fi (Ironically far more than Flash). The only think that made him less than a favorite of mine was his mustache. Other than Zorro, I was more in the mind if mustaches being a villain trope. If I'd been more clever I'd have just painted over it, though theat still might've given me more Ceasar Romero vibes.
I'm still trying to pick up a Captain Arak figure!
Unfortunately, the only figures I ever got from this line were the weird aliens leftover from when they sold all the Flash and Ming figures. Years later I got the NECA Flash and Ming painted to look like the old Mattel figures.
I do like those NECA versions, but I wish they'd done the other characters too.
Not only did I not have one, I have never even seen that character before. I think at the time she came out, I would have picked her up to add to my Star Wars aliens, if I actually had the money for her. My allowance disappeared quickly with comic books, action figures, and trading cards all taking their share of it.
Although I remember friends having some of the figures from the series when I was a kid, I don't remember any of them having the Lizard Woman.
I got some HACKS King Features and NECA (?) King Features characters in the present time.
Those are very cool. I've only got the Barin so far, but I hope they continue to expand the line.
Cool!
I love the cartoon and have it on DVD I never had the Lizard woman but I did have fun and Flash Gordon and use them alongside my Star Wars Adventures very cool characters I would have liked to have had this blizzard woman she would have easily fit in with the creature Cantina or were Jabba's Palace or Goons or as an ally of the Rebel Alliance take your pick
She is easy to move between universes.
She would have hung out with my Cantina creatures!
Cool video! Thank you!
I didn't know of Flash Gordon back when I was a kid, and didn't collect any of the figures. But now that Boss Fight Studio has started making some pretty darned cool Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Flash Gordon figures, I hope they expand the range into more characters like this.
I never had an of them as a kid, but I remember them in with the other action figures at various friends' houses.
If you haven't seen Filmation's Flash Gordon, I recommend it. It's a great adaptation of the original comic strip. You know I love the Sam Jones film, and the Buster Crabbe serials as well.
It's a trip, recognising voices you'd know from the He-Man and She-Ra cartoons coming out of different characters' mouths.
I love the Sam Jones move and the cartoon. I can't really get into the Buster Crabbe serials although I have tried.
Mine was all green - I know I remember it right!
The Lizard Woman's spear was the same one that was packed with Thun the Lion-man. With the exception of head, upper thorax, and the obvious color difference the Lizard Woman was a re-tool of the Thun action figure, her tail and feet have the same construction as the Lion-man's. Mattel did a similar retool for the Caliban figure from The Clash of the Titans toyline.
Shhhh...I borrowed Thun's spear for this video! 😏

The only Flash Gordon figure my brother and I owned. Found a few of them in 1984 or so lingering for years at a small town department store. Just her. Possibly on clearance. No boy wanted lizard ladies, I guess. She was neat, but her legs got loose quickly. with that the tail, she was hard to ever set standing up. And that was both of them. We had two. They must've been cheap.
For not making the main characters from the cartoon, I blame Mattel for half-a$$ing Flash Gordon like they did Battlestar Galactica. At least Flash figures had painted eyes. Mattel was a bigger company than Kenner at the time, I think. But Mattel's bread and butter was Barbie and Hot Wheels. Everything else was an afterthought. I feel like that's mostly been their modus operandi ever since, with only Master of the Universe getting any real effort and even then they cut corners there where they could.
Yes, but as an adult, there's something charming about that cheapness!
I don't remember the toys, but I did see the cartoon and had a coloring book for it as well.
I didn't know about the coloring books!
@@WeHadThat Just checked online, and there were at least 3 of them. I think the one I had was titled "Mission of Peril".
The lizard women look like they'd fit right in with Cobra from GI Joe.
I wouldn't have argued that!
I made her Bossk’s girlfriend
That makes sense!
I think one of the overlooked key reasons for the culture altering success of the original Star Wars line is the proportions being anatomically accurate. You can see from the Flash Gordon, Adventure People and Micronauts lines that they have more disproportionate cartoony anatomy features where the SW stuff was symmetrical. Until SW you had to have 9 or 12 inch figures for them to look right.
That could be, but I think the popularity of the movie itself may have been the reason for the popularity of the figures. Or a combination of the two.
This was at precisely the same time as the Fantastic Four cartoon which would have been cool if they had not switched out the Human Torch for stupid ass Kirby the robot because even several decades before woke safe space snowflake sissy culture, companies would still castrate the fun right out of a concept with pre emptive sensitivity based self censorship. Was any licensed stuff made for that FF cartoon?
It was Herbie , not Kirby , thank God . Jack took enough crap from Marvel without THAT indignity . I remember being bummed about the cutsie dumb*ss robot . Never did understand THAT move . A better cartoon from same time was Thundarr the Barbarian , with Jack Kirby himself helping out with character design .
@@jeffreese1828 Didn't Alex Toth design Space Ghost?
Human Torch wasn't in that cartoon because the character had been optioned by a different studio for a different project that never got made. The stuff about kids setting themselves on fire seems to be an urban myth. I mean, did kids do that in the 60's when there was a FF cartoon with the whole line-up?
@stevenfunderburg1623 I believe he DID , Steve . Along with character design for my favorites ; "The Herculoids" !
Now , I've heard " character design" , by Toth , for these characters (and others) , BUT is that , or not , the same as CREATED ? I understand that they are different words which mean different things BUT , like , the Herculoids ... their design (pretty much) IS their character . Still , I suppose , a Creator could come up with a name (Igoo) and idea (Rock Ape) and couple traits (throws stuff , grunts , loyal gentle giant) and still need someone to provide a finished look .... unless they do that THEMSELVES . Since the characters are not very deep , it seems almost that they could have been Created in reverse by whoever Designed them . Hope that makes sense ? Any info on this topic would be welcome.
@scockery Lol , I've never heard of the kids "setting themselves on fire" thing before . That's crazy ! I was 10 at the time and big FF comics fan....and I may have considered setting myself on fire BECAUSE of the omission of the Human Torch in the cartoon . Just on the surface , imo , that ruined that toon before it ever aired . Fans of the FF would certainly be angry , especially if Torch was your FAVORITE (he wasn't my fav , but , like damn ... the FF , the Torch , ..... like ...
I remember I kept thinking he'd turn up , that I somehow missed him in ads.....but noooo...as it aired the first time , and I was glued to the TV.... well , I can remember being incredulous, like , "THIS CAN'T BE ! Can it ?" OH yeah , it can Was the first , but not the only time that "the gang" over at Mighty Marvel would disappoint .
