I bought this for my 2014 Wrangler because my 35" tire was pulling apart my rear door and I needed to carry additional fuel.
The presenter is correct about this being heavy. Add 2 full fuel cans and move the spare tire further from the vehicle and things get worse.
I have a 2 door jeep the spare tire and atlas had the rear suspension sagging before adding the 2 full fuel cans causing headlight issues. Jerry can holders only allow a specific size.
Also, you will have to extend the third light wiring which is now causing me issues. The spare tire also limits you from carrying additional items if installed over the carrying rack.
Besides the issues I brought up it is a stout system.
Any chance smittybuilt will have a version of this for the Gladiator?
What is the tow rating of the included 2” hitch?
Whats the brand and type of the fenders please?
Any further direction on adjusting the cam pin to raise/lower the height of the gate? Using a 3/8 ratchet spinning the wheel right raises it when putting extra weight on the carrier? Love this carrier but just added hi lift and jerry cans and now its really hard to open/close the gate...Thanks
U need to adjust the height after loading it with all the weight
Tried installing the tire carrier and it didn't line up with the bumper horizontally. The carrier is about an inch high at the latch pin, the cam plate is at the lowest setting , turning it only makes it higher. Anyone else run into this problem?
Great segment!
Thanks Mathieu! I love all the options this bumper/tire carrier combo provides. -Brian
Hi i bought the top rack part used from a guy it didn't have anything but the rack , i am buying the bumper part this week .. could you tell me how it was boxed .. what parts came with the bottom part of the bumper is what i can't find online . Thanks
Hey Jason I think I can help you. Below is the manufacturer installation guide, but on the first page it shows all the hardware included with the rear bumper and the tire carrier. It is a little hard to read but it shows the full list. Hope this helps and let me know if there is anything you need! Follow this link: terrain.jp/2kONEMH
Thank you. -Brian
Great video!
Thanks for watching! -Zach
Had this put on our 2016 JK and just love it but need to find the lights that go in the tire carrier part?

Does it rattle at the latch?
Thanks for this video. Is there a way to lock the fuel cans onto the carrier? does it even come with a device to secure the cans?
Yes this kit comes with the gas can and jack mounts to secure it. Hope this helps! -Brian
@@extremeterrain There are straps to secure the cans but there is NO Lock. A set of bicycle cable locks work.
if you move the break light to the carrier that swings out how do you wire the break light so it will open
Run the wire up from near the hinge so it moves with the carrier
@@ninja63639 now its visible. The issue is how do you run the wire without being seen.
@@bobrowe3273
Oh I gotcha. Well, you can either drill 2 holes in the tire carrier tube, fish the wire through and seal it with some rtv or use rtv to stick it to the back side of the tube. Then you'd only see it when the carrier was opened. You could use black wire and it would blend right in
With moding pf the mounting backets can this fit other Jeep types (older years) ? eg 1997 TJ
This bumper is specifically designed to fit JK model Wranglers. With extensive modification and fabrication I'm sure you *could* make it fit a TJ, but I would highly recommend just buying something for your specific model to cut down on the amount of trouble that may pop up during installation. -Zach
@@extremeterrain Great thanks for the tip, Cheers
Where the hell is the install part?
I have heavily considered this bumper, but my only concern is, does the hi lift jack rattle, I have a rugged ridge jack mount which eliminates all rattling, so I don't want to go back to the rattle, do you have any experience with the jack on the bumper?
I hear what you are saying and having a large heavy spare can sometimes break the welds on your tailgate causing rattling, but having a bumper mounted carrier like this should fix that issue! -Brian
ExtremeTerrain.com, thank you, however I was asking more about the hi lift jack rattling more than the bumper, as anyone that has ever run a hi lift will tell you, that rattle like no tomorrow.
I see well we haven't personally test ran a Hi-Lift jack on the bumper but judging by the way the HI Lift jack would mount I don't see any reason as to why there would be any rattling. The Hi Lift jack mounting points on the carrier are u-bolted to the top rail and the Hi Lift jack mounts directly to them by threading into a welded nut. So, as long as you make sure everything is secured, then you should be good to go. One thing I would recommend would be to make sure you have a Hi Lift handle isolator as well so that you don't get the chatter from the handle vibrating against the jack. Hope this helps! -Brian
Thanks again, and if you ever find yourself with nothing to do, just peruse on over to some off-road forums and type in rattling hi-lift, or something along those lines, and there should be something on how to stop it, or debating whether or not they should just leave it at home until they will need it, thanks again.
GuiltlessBiker r dot get it. I bought one to carry my 35 inch spare and spare gas cans. it rattles when you hit big bumps in the road. even worse off roads
I bought this bumper 7 months ago. it rattles so bad, you can't hardly hear radio. can't hardly open latch now either.
Too bad. I was really considering this bumper for my new jku.
Mine doesn't rattle at all
I have had this same bumper for over a year, and mine does not rattle at all either.
I have a 37 trail grappler with a 17 wheel, I have wheel with this long enough to tell you: Dude read your instructions and fix the pin angle!
2 years in, Love mine, dead silent. My hi-jack lift base was rattling at first but a zip tie fixed it
I bought 3 different jerry cans that wont fit 😡
never gave the price you said you would
CAUTION!! Gas can mount only works with Midwest brand Jerry cans. Wasted time and money buying a plastic jerry can and then a metal one before finding this info.
