My mom is 90. After a year of restrictions, isolation and getting controlled by fear, she is finally just tired. She said that we all die anyway, but that she rather would die right now than to never have hugged her kids again. We do now and went back to normal. She broke into tears when we first hugged again. That is the real situation out there.

Don't know where you live dude, or where you get your facts, but I'm a high school teacher, and old too (65) and I've been back working in the classroom since September, wearing a mask, but still there for the kids from 6:45 am till I leave around 4pm, five days a week, and of course, going in on weekends to grade and set things up for the next week. For that we get squat for pay (here in Arizona). But we do our job because it's important work.

Since Tucker decides to hone in at the very start of the pandemic focused on Pelosi's actions, i guess we should use that time frame. At a time when its unknown how serious the pandemic is. You can either say we overreacted at that time against people that may be infected (asians), or we didnt do enough to stop it (trump). I think the reality is both, we didnt do enough to stop it, and some democrats framed it to try to achieve an early political win.

I am a nurse at a nursing home in florida. We did not have any covid outbreak in our nursing home. Luckily we had no government official forcing us to take covid positive patients. We tested every patient and every staff at every shift and every day. Here now and we have not one positive poses patient.

Our children have been back in school since September 2020.
Not one of our staff or students have had Covid 19.

@Victoria S. this just isn’t it. after a while the kids will either get tired of their parents and do not have any other social interaction with those outside of them. and it doesn’t help that kids and teenagers push their parents away when depressed or suicidal. it puts the parents in a situation where they want to help but don’t want to make it worse for the kid. (this is coming from a kid who has and had all of these feelings and thoughts)
@@np9068 surely that's the parents fault, some kids have an amazing relationship with their family while there are some children who dread living with their family. Regardless, giving kids access to see their friends is not acceptable if we want the virus to vanish. Parents should make a stable relationship with their children from birth so when their older they wouldn't be annoyed and push their parents away. Plus loads of kids depend on social media for interaction, and there is a LOT of social media out there to video chat, message, play games against each other, etc etc etc. That will certainly full that void. A year is a long time but it is no time to be selfish.

Im from Alberta, Canada and had a cold this week and had to call in sick and my work requested (nicely) I get a covid test. My wife also had a cold and she wanted to cover herself and make sure she wasn’t covid positive either. We went to different test stations - hers was the public one, mine private. Hers was at a massive public conference centre suited to test thousands of people. Mine was drive-thru in a parkade. Both of us went, got in and out in no time. Nurses were sitting around doing nothing other than checking out games and emails on their phones. My wife said her nurses seemed surprised someone was even there and scrambled to get their gloves on.

COVID disproportionately affects the elderly, and it’s not close. Statistically, individuals under 20 are much more likely to die from the flu than from COVID. The goal should be to protect and vaccinate the elderly first.

Are you kidding! My granddaughter lost the second half of her junior year and now her whole senior year! She is a high achiever but lost out on all the fun things she deserved!
I am a teacher. One from a school district that only completely shut down for a week and a half last March. We then did the “remote” thing for fourth quarter. That was a nightmare. Unfortunately for many of you parents and your children out there the nightmare has continued. The fool of a union hack says kids are resilient. That is true. However trauma is real and we are inflicting it on kids. I see it in my own sons. This year, going to school an going through the layers of garbage put in our way by “experts” has been hard on kids, parents, and teachers. However I would take it over throwing kids out of school. The damage done to learning 4th quarter last year is significant. Kids are way behind in learning here just from a quarter. For the teachers’ union president to laugh off the effects of a year without school is reprehensible.

I have been teaching my children at home for years, more children should be educated this way. As a teacher it is your job to get better at this, and adapt to new teaching styles, or more to the point, you should learn what ever a child needs from you to teach them. All of us over the years, as the world has changed, have to change along with it, that is the way the world works, you either learn how to change, aka, "Roll with the Punches", or you get left behind.
We can always make time for children to interact with one another, but learning time at school has become a place where children don't feel safe unless they have some sort of "Click" as they were called when I was in school. These are essentially just small gangs, that generally work to humiliate and treat others that do not fit in as if they do, as if they have some sort of disease. The worse part is, the schools do nothing or very little to assist in this regard, and when it gets bad enough that children start harming themselves, they act as if the parents must be at fault, and also refuse to provide any sort of help. We should be working together to stop things like this before they become problems. I asked if they have a councilor that can help my child with these sort of this, or someone here at the school that might work with students in this situation. They had nothing to offer, and acted as if I was asking too much for the problem THEY helped create.
The point is, is that are children are far better off with situation like this where the parents and the school faculties are having to work together, and the children are now taking a larger role in their education, seeing a larger part of what is usually in the background of their education is now front and center, and an actual part of the learning. I was out taking a walk, without a mask, and a young girl on her bike, wearing a mask, who was on the opposite side of the street called to me asking me which way I was going at the fork in the road. I pointed towards my destination and she said thank you. While we both stayed on opposite sides of the street from one another she had to also maintain an opposite direction from me due to fear of Covid. This is what people have created in these children. I work with kids from 5 yrs old to seniors in high school. What this isolation is doing to our youth is tragic and being ignored. Our young people are suffering horribly and some very serious and heartbreaking outcomes are going to continue to increase and if something doesn't change for their sake the mortality numbers will make covid look like an allergy.

@James Hendricks you clearly don't work directly with very many kids. I would completely agree phones haven't helped but that's on the parents who pay the bill and allow the use. Nevertheless face to face interaction with peers and adults is essential in so many ways. I am in the middle of this actually talking with kids and the emotional and phycological damage right now is getting worse everyday. Btw..the mortality rate of the flu is actually worse than this virus but we don't have "rules" during flu season. Try comparing teen suicide numbers from 2019 to 2020.
