Use the "..." button and cap at 40 on legacy model/45 on LED for even frame times. Reduce TDP to 10-12 range to prolong battery life and reduce fan noise.
Basically was my preset when I tried it out after the latest update! Best have a consistent 40 fps IMHO Also reduced the effect from anyone but me to save on the massive load (and visual load) of the added effect from party members
Something you forgot to mention: Be sure to enable developer mode on your Steam Deck and turn off the "enable wifi power management" toggle or else you will encounter very frequent mini lag spikes while playing that will mess you up on button presses. Also, if you play on console already you can back up your settings to the server via the character select menu and then download them on your Steam Deck and all the controls you're familiar with will be the same (though you might have to readjust the size of some HUD elements)
Played on Steam Deck from Stormblood to Endwalker back in 2023 and Dawntrail in 2024 and I gotta say this is probably like one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had on a handheld
It's super amazing i been playing it on the steamdeck since fall of 2022 because you have the extra 4 back buttons and 8 more buttons on the track pads. it won't hit 60fps but low-setting at 45fps is soo good and smooth.
I went overseas recently for a month and took xiv with me on the deck so I didnt miss on seasonal event quests, and was damn surprised that the game ran not only well, but REALLY well. I would say the main hurdle is getting used to the gamepad controls, but tbh if you can hook up your deck to a tv, mouse and keyboard you are basically playing it the same way you are at home.
I bought a Steam Deck a few years ago when work required me to travel around more often. Became a great investment not having to miss raid nights with my static or treasure map nights with the FC. Bonus points for making layovers in LaGuardia International a TEEEEENY bit more tolerable. One key note to remember, Steam regularly performs scheduled backend maintenance on their servers on Tuesday nights (CST) leading to experiencing higher latency issues ingame during those times. May ultimately make or break alliance raids or savage prog nights so do plan accordingly given the infamous scourge that is FFXIV's server tick system.
While I mostly play FFXIV on my desktop rig, I love playing on my Steam Deck and works in a pinch when I want to play while away from home. I stick with Laptop High and generally get 60 FPS in most areas, but if gets lower in the busier areas like Limsa. Thankfully it is not low enough to be unplayable.
Oh how I wish I could afford a Steam Deck! Then I could come back to the main game instead of going to FFXIV Mobile when that launches later this year (it just finished it's Chinese beta). Sure, XIV Mobile will just start off with ARR, but it will be my chance to play XIV once again (the expansions will be eventually released down the road depending on how well XIV Mobile is received).
Check sales of the LED model and refurbished Decks, you can get one for really cheap, there's also the used market, i would avoid the Mobile version personally....
Downloaded free trial on steam. Created account. Cant get past terms and conditions page. I scroll all the way down and check the box. The agree button remains grayed out and i cannot continue. Square Enix says to log into Mog Station and use registration code. However the free trial does not have registration code. Next option is to purchase the game to recieve a registration code. But how would that solve the terms and conditions issue?
Of course you don't "need to," but it's nice to be able to so you're not having to futz around in menus or tons of hotbars with icons all over the place for quick access to often used things (like inventories and teleport menu). You could simply use the generic gamepad layout and be done with it when playing on the Steam Deck. But why limit your options when you have so much more available at your finger tips?
I wish I could play this on my Steam Deck, but my account is the Windows version not Steam and refuse to trust my login information to a third-party launcher.
@@mitsudafanni7978 You still can, look into a program called Moonlight & Sunshine. It basically allows you to stream your desktop to your Steam Deck. So any game on your PC can be played over WiFi, including FF14! I was going to add that to the video, but it ended up being too long.
Dalamud and as such XIVLauncher are being used by approximately 70% of all users on PC as per download and usage stats. You're entirely safe to log in with it, especially as you will have 2Factor anyway assuming you care at all about your account. They could quite literally steal all your information and still not log into the game or the website.
@@Alpacalipsdon’t use Sunshine, use Apollo and Artemis for moonlight, but that isn’t available yet. Apollo makes streaming soooo much better than Sunshine. You can use moonlight just as well with Artemis
I will say this.. coming from pc I was amazed by steam deck and rog ally performance. I regularly play it now on hand held, just typing and communicating is annoying
Depends, I’ve played during the summer on my Ally on holidays and it was amazing. I was able to do Savage Arcadion and completely level up Astrologian without problems in game. I only struggled using discord

My power went out on a savage prog night. I tethered my deck to my phone and was still able to raid. Wasn't even that bad.

God damnit I've been looking for a good Steam Deck setup video for FFXIV and here a sillly little meme/music channel uploads one of the best.

I cap this game at 40 on Steam Deck and on my WinMax2 (2023). Plays great especially for a handheld.

I've raided on handheld for almost a year. It really isn't a big deal.

I can't play this game without my Steam Deck.
I actually do savage on deck LOL it's great

Imagine getting wiped in pvp and your opponent is playing on a deck. Id just stop playing Frontline
I need to do that
Honestly, yeah
The virtual mouse is invisible for me when enabled with LB + R3 shortcut.
I am thinking about getting a steam deck or legion go s in may with steam os
the game was made when the dinosaurs roamed the earth dude, if it couldn't be ran on the steam deck lmao i'd be worried
i'd love to play, sadly getting the non-steam version running is a bitch :c
Dude... with controller you can access all those things. There's no need for 'customizing' it.

if it was free to play i would have try it
It is!!!! You have up to 3 expansions completely for free. You’ll take around 300 hours to properly finish them.
I will say this..

great video but unfortunately 90% of the footage is spoilers so i can't really give it to my friend :(
It's not the best way to play it, its one of the worst
