I love your setup. I wish my space was big. Alas. Anyway, one difference, I use an old cotton T-shirt instead of a sponge. Suggested in Stephen Coates book, to soak up the water on the outside of the brush, but not in the belly.

Now....I don't use this setup in my studio any longer. I switched to a table top easel. I'm always experimenting with new ways of doing things.
Very helpful setup tips! I'm just reviving my water-color hobby now after going on a hiatus for over a decade! I'm mostly self-taught, but I'm realizing I've developed some bad habits and probably working too hard to get the effect I need.

Yes. Many of the professional watercolor artists that I follow use some kind of angled board, on top of a drafting table or regular table. You need to be able to adjust it to a variety of angles, including flat. You want it to be as versatil as possible. I actually modified this table top easle myself to get it the way I want - amzn.to/3J2WnoR I removed the "leg" on the back and just use a block of different width to adjust the angle.
