Today, the cubs met face-to-face with Luke for the first time! Introductions are always tense the first time you do them, but we always try to base it on positive behaviors we've seen in the past and experiences we've had in the past. We've introduced Luke to his cubs though a mesh "howdy door" prior to today's meeting. All lions (dad, moms, and cubs) were interested in one another and their interactions were positive during those meetings, so we decided it was time to try putting them together in the same shared space.

He's a good daddy lion. He was teaching his cubs what was acceptable...and what was not. He didn't bite or swat, that I saw, just growled and snarled. Mama lion wasn't too concerned which leads me to believe he was actually very tolerant. If he wasn't she would have called the cubs to her. Lions are wonderful. We need to do all we can to protect wild lions and their habitats!
Katherine Uribe he mildly swatted at 1:33
@@OmegaPictures318 Correct. And it wouldn’t have been a problem if he had disciplined them with an equally mild “bite.” A stern mouthing is probably a better description for that kind of interaction.
The cubs are so cute. I loved how they tried to talk back when dad roared. Dad didn't want any part of them trying to play with his tail. Reminded me of some human dads....they come home from work tired and the kids want to play. I really enjoyed this video!!!
It's the ultimate paradox for the cubs. Dad, with that mane, is the ultimate fluffy toy and scary as hell hehe.
He's like "Yeah, just try to bite my tail son!"
The Cubs Are Adorable 🥰🥰🥰🥰 and The Cubby bit his Tail on Purpose.
Luke establishes hierarchy first meeting
Dad was a tad grumpy, he just wanted to watch baseball
"Luke..I. Am. Your. Son"
your Plan is superb. Adult lion and cubs are very healthy . Good job. (Praveen from india )
What a sad place ..... The lions deserves something better .
Awesome clip, thanks!
Good thing they're well-fed.
NJ Darling The den is always small but it's not their only enclosure. They have a really big one outside.
That is a beautiful male lion.❤️
Sweet so cute!
1:03 papa, please be nice.
This zoo has had many cubs! I wish lincoln park zoo in Chicago will have cubs soon. I think it's been over 40 years since this zoo had cubs?
Yeah if you didn't have the poor animals in the confined space, they don't deserve to be locked up like they're in prisoners...shame shame....poor animals
Don't worry, this isn't their real space - their real enclosure is outside.
Yeah i felt ashamed a little when i saw the place they where kept in! Maybe i'ts just for them when it's winter and or when Lioness have cubs!
Frank Circa It's actually a small area between dens. They wanted to keep Luke and the cubs in a small area during the introductions and have the mothers and keepers close by. I believe they have 4 indoor dens and I know for a fact they have two large outdoor yards (been to the National Zoo several times).
Luke at da kitty! Luke IS da kitty!
would last name happen to be skywalker? looks like luke dont like them near his tail.
But papa's tail is such a FUN toy for a curious cub! :-) Now that they're older it's so cute how he'll roll over on his back and "handicap" himself so his cubs can play. He's a great papa!
O my, that cage looks really depressing. It is dark, cold and colourless...
I feel for those lions.
Why are we people keeping animals in cages as if they were criminals, as if the were our possessions?
Petra Imschoot it's just the holding area so they can be monitored while they meet with their father
How about get an education on the work Zoos do, their habitat and other correct information and then come back here, okay?
alls he thinking is "i want a paternity test"
just because you've done that does not mean the lion has too, because their his cubs.
star fire it's a joke but I get what you mean.
So small area I believe thats why dad was grumpy
Dad seems pretty agitated to me.
I just don't get why male lions growl at the cubs so much? Like they just don't want to be bothered at all...
ESSE LEÃO MACHO É DA ETIÓPIA?
fucking tiny cage, is just insane for anymals
Looks like dad is pretty irritated with them. I'm sure captivity is part of it too, though.
Even in the wild, male lions seem to have a “short fuse” when it comes to their cubs.😕
Except of that cage i would do something better. like do a forest with alot of space and put the lions in there. they would have alot of room and places to hide in. Not an cage where theres no room in and cubs to play.
Why such a tiny room? It's so unnatural.
I'm surprised the space is so small.
NJ Darling it was just to control the introduction
Call him out in case he was to overbearing
This is shameful cage with absolutely no room. Which idiot thought this zoo setting was right thing to do for the lions?
This is a VERY small part of where the lions live! This is the equivalent of a human home's mud room or foyer. They have several large indoor rooms as well as two large outdoor yards.
Anna York hOw do you know?
I don't give a fuck if those cubs met their father or whatever!.... The REAL question here is WHY ON EARTH would you keep a wild animal such as those lions in a cage like this????? Omg humans really are EVIL, and heartless! Let those animals live in the wild for God's sake!!!! Ughh this video disgusts me.
You're talking to yourself for saying humans.
Jean Garcia
You get what I was trying to say. Not all human beings are heartless. But those sick people who own the zoos and circus ARE evil.
people who hunt and kill lions for fun ARE evil !!! not zoos. zoos educate us and bring awareness to these animals. without zoos, you and me would never see these animals face to face (and probably not give a fuck about them).

It's a LOVELY idea to let these animals live in the wild, but then they'd be trophy-hunted or canned-hunted. Yes humans ARE evil and heartless which is why we need zoos to conserve species because humans have destroyed so much of "the wild" to build their own homes. Want to do something? Step off the self-righteous "Live in the wild! Zoos are EVIL!" soapbox and find out how you can help keep the wild safe enough for animals to remain in it.
Did you know that if an opposing male lion slays the father of cubs, he'll kill the cubs just because he wants to put the female back into heat? He kills baby lions because he wants to fuck.
~The more you know~
That lion is too damn big to be in that tiny cage set him free before he goes crazy and kills you like the whale tilikum did his trainer.
aneva moore Calm down, they don't live in that room
I want Lions maybe i just born in wrong body! Maybe i was supose to be a Lion! Jesus i should stop m........!
You lot are messed up how could you cage them up like that disgusting people
Thumbs down just because these gorgeous lions are kept in such a confined small place. SHAME ON YOU!
why aren't they allowed to live together? why's the cage so small? why's it so empty? there isn't anything for Luke to do but sit there. They're fed, but how? Are they allowed to hunt like they're instinctively born to?
I hate videos like these. Zoos are prisons. These animals should be free in protected game reserves, to live wildly and as they please. The human race is the most destructive species on this planet. We can't even live peacefully amongst ourselves, never mind with other species. It makes me feel ashamed.
Haven't you read many other comments? This is not all they have. They have an outside area, this is just where they can go in bad weather.
5pm-10am closing time too
