Love the channel what a great family and channel! I'm a 60-year-old mountain man. I just purchased a camper for the back of my truck. I had 3 weeks off. so went deep in the mountains took, several tomahawks, my Winchester 44 mag lever gun, my henry 30 30, my Marlin 45/70 trapper. a 2nd gen colt single action. Ruger vaquero. a colt 1911lightweight commander. and two Ruger Blackhawks, Glock 43x and a shotgun. I spent the 1st week throwing tomahawks. target shooting. laying in my hammock, hiking exploring. just really enjoying the outdoors. I was sitting in my hammock drinking coffee. when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up!
I knew immediately. there was danger. just then 4 buses pulled up, and two vans pulled up. when 5 extremely overweight females walked into my camp along with 30 girl scouts. The women asked me if I would help them set their tents up. while 30 girls were screaming and laughing running around. In a panic I backed up slowly not making eye contact packed up everything. I had to play dead a couple times and had to make myself look larger a couple times to SCAR off the predators! I checked my camp again making sure I left no trace. took a leafy branch and got rid of any tracks so the predators couldn't track me. and got the hell out of there.... I BARLY MADE OUT WITH MY LIFE...Drove 50 more mile down a service road deep in the mountains. made camp, besides the Black Bars, and the mountain lions. it was heaven. I did wake up in a cold sweat having a panic attack every now and then reliving the girl scout incident. I kind of flashed back from my military days in Iraq...scary!

Great story's fellas, makes me miss my Dad.
He took me hunting out on hitchinbrook island when I was about 12. I stopped a a creek for a drink and when I broke thru the a clearing a grizzly charged up behind me. I didn't poop myself but I raked 3 shells out without pulling the trigger. 😂

Really like what you guys are doing. Great stories. So many gun videos focus on angry politics and some guy in tactical gear doing mag dumps at 7 yards and talking about shooting people. Keep up the good work.

Great time guys! I woke up from a nap under a pine with a bear digging for bugs next to me. Cap lock Hawken 50 is all I had. Turned out there was two bears, but they took off when I stood and yelled. Glad I didn't need to shoot.

    Great video. Great stories!
That reminded me of an incident when I lived in Davie FL. Davie is about 8 miles west of the ocean near ft. Lauderdale. There was what was called the L- Shaped Lake about a block from my house. It was good size, about a block wide with the legs about 2 blocks long. This lake was in the middle of a residential area. It was an old rock pit that was about 65 ft deep in the middle. The water was not connected to the canals and was not polluted. The state stocked it with Peacock Bass and Largemouths. Had a Veteran's Park at one end and was a popular fishing spot.
I used to take daily walks past the lake. On the inside of the L there was a big stand of oak trees. At the very peak there was a huge oak where someone had tied a rope so you could swing out over the water. The water was very clear and I used to see a lot of fish right there. I walked up to the base of the oak and looked down into the clear water and saw something sticking up from the bottom. It was at about a 45 degree angle and seemed to be quite long and about thick as my arm. I watched it for a while and it never moved. Of course, I could not leave it alone. Had to find out what it was. There was a brush pile and I pulled out about a 10 ft stick. I put the stick in the water a poked whatever it was.
It was a snake. It was what I would call watermelon colored with light green background and dark green and red stripes . Never saw a snake in that color. It flew up out of the water like a rocket and splashed me in the face. Sticking out three feet out of the water, it gave me a look of hate I will never forget! Then it hissed and opened its mouth showing a white interior. Then it came up the bank at me. I about faced and did the 220. Didnt look back until a block away.
Th funny thing about this is that I had seen gators in the lake, one day an 11 footer. Whenever I went near the water in FL, I had a 44 Magnum with 300 gr cast bullet loads with me. That day I had a Uberti short barrel single action in an IWB holster. I never even thought of the gun.
So, the moral of the story is never poke something with a stick. You might get a rude surprise. I never did that again. And I stayed away from there for quite a while.
Water moccasins come in that color. I had only seen black, grey and brown ones up to that point. This one was also huge. Looked about 10 feet long in the water but things look a third bigger looking down in the water.

    Hey gents,
I truly enjoyed this posting. My 1st job out of high school in 1976 was on a cattle and horse operation in southern CA , when we still had both here. Sadly most of them are now gone . In 1970 something, I read in a gun magazine ( not one from Wolfe Publishing) that 38 Spl / 357 mag shot cartridges were invincible snake killers. I bought ONE box, and dutifully loaded two rounds in my Colt Python followed up by 4 handloads. On three separate occasions ( in front of witnesses ) the shot ctgs failed, only making for a very angry serpent . All three times the matter was resolved by the conventional loading. I didn't by any more. My other snake shootings were rather uneventful .
I'd like to suggest a couple more fireside chat topics. 1) What is / was your favorite work saddle gun ? ( The rifle carried in scabbard while hunting is dictated by game being pursued ) Mine was a Savage Mdl 88 chambered (and handloaded ) for 250 Savage . I still have both the gun and scabbard . 2) What is your favorite under the pillow gun when camping ? Mine is a S&W 625-6 Mountain Gun, filled with handloads of RCBS -SAA 270 Scovill bullets and a charge of Unique (as recommended by a renowned contributor to Handloader Magazine. )

My revolvers are always packed with shotshells . I never go under the crawl space without my usfa rodeo and a reliable flashlight. Snakes like to follow the mice through the gopher holes. And when you come face to face with a danger noodle you don't have enough time to worry about pipes.

Hey so maybe I missed you explaining why the fact you guys all seem to use older style weapons and caliber choices. But I am curious if there is a more concise answer? It would seem that there are a lot more effective and capable guns nowadays? It seems like you guys have chosen guns that work for you, but I was not expecting to see so many "dated" guns. Love the content keep it up!
