I'll give you a tip, if you are storing large amounts of rice, store a few bottles of soy sauce. It will at least make boiled white rice palatable when you are eating it for the 100th day straight.
In reality this is a good idea for everyone to do cause at some point everyone falls on hard times and can't afford to pay for food, bills or housing costs. This would be like a buffer until things turn around. Keep up the great videos Andy
I was all for it for you. You got the dry goods, you got the bags and you had the good intentions and then you got the oxygen absorbers and then you totally messed it up with them. Once you open the packet it starts immediately, so you need to squish the air out fast and seal it. Your assembly line of the smaller bags, well, let's just say by the time you sealed it, the oxygen absorbers done did their job and that bag has air in it. That's a one bag at a time deal and there's no way around that. Very time consuming, labor intensive and frustrating. Next time with the smaller bags, one bag at a time. 🤗 Here's another tip when you do open one and use it, especially the bigger bags if you cut it open as close to the seal as you can get, you can reuse that bag. Just gotta make sure it's clean and dry.
I have some of the pre-packaged "survival food". Enough for about a month for my girlfriend and I. And like you, I am not a preper. But with as unreliable the utilities are down here in the Detroit area, it's peace of mind. my girlfriend asked why I bought it, we lost power a week later, see!!!!
I would add that you could have left the products in original packaging, then into the mylar. Double sealed. Double protected. And as someone else said- SALT. You may want to get a whole barrel of just salt. Oh, and you are no crazier than the rest of us. Or so says all the different voices in my head.

The idea behind buying in bulk is to break the bulk down into say weekly sized packages so that when one opens a package they only have a weeks worth of beans,or rice,or whatever and none goes to waste due to a lack of refrigeration or proper storage... Smaller bags inside of larger bags stored inside of sealed ; 5 gallon buckets,10,20,55 gallon drums make it easiest and safest to only break out what a family,or community can prepare and consume in a safe time frame without spoilage or wastage... One needs enough put away to support their family plus many more mouths(in their community) long enough to get through to planting and growing season and until harvest,butchering time... Never place all of your beans in a single bag or drum simply because failure of one to seal properly could costs your family and friends all of that product... And the more moisture absorbers used in each step the better ... Bury it below the frost line in an always dry location and it'll last almost indefinitely... The same thing with your bunker and freedom seed,pew pows,spare expendables,etc,...

A hair dryer with a 2 Liter bottle cap end cut off and taped to the back with a straw taped to the cap end and Inserted into the bag is a great MacGyver “Vacuum” that you can use to evacuate the air out of a package before sealing it.

600 to 800 pounds dried goods - take your pick: Wheat, Rice, Pasta, Beans, Oats, Corn ... and the like. They all have about the same calories (1500 - 1700 (ish) per pound. Conveniently - you can fit approximately 600 pounds inside 2 each 55 gallon drums. 600 to 800 pounds. Per person. Per year.
Store it in a cellar to keep it at a steady temp will help too...plus yr salted meat. Toilet paper n dog food n soap are also good to keep handy for "future" needs
Great vid. I grew up with a bunch of real peppers as well as way off grid. It was a full on lifestyle. There was always an eminent end of the world of some sort that we were preparing for. I don’t subscribe to all those beliefs at this point but never a bad idea to have some backup. Worst case in a disaster you have plenty to tide you over.

I've come to realize that my favorite videos are your "tutorials". You know, the How To's. You know a lot of shit and I like feeling like I've learned something. For things like canned meat, shelf store it if you use it. Meaning if you would eat Spam or canned corned beef keep a dozen cans and replace it as you use it. You will at least have enough for short term use if the power goes out for a week or two.
I know you bought this for emergency backup, but remember to put dates on stuff and rotate stock often. That way it doesn’t spoil before you use it all.

I recently found a directory like a phone book from 1886 there were so many dry goods sellers and wagon makers in I was amazed. I to have some dry food storage just in case.
Things I would definitely have in bulk salt pepper herbs canned foods sugar you can buy those vacuum sealers that work really good for a canning jar and its battery-operated once it sucks it down there's no air in it and then I've even seen people put up meat and canning jars that would last for 2 or 3 years. And you know I think at times the word you could barter with goods chewing tobacco smoking tobacco and alcohol are going to be the top three. I just say this tobacco is King it don't matter where you're at. When you can stuff you know. It can last up to 5 years I've seen it last longer than that but it turns to mush. Instead of green beans or pickles it's mush. If it stays good then it don't turn the vinegar. I think another good thing to have is seeds for a garden and some potting soil and a way to get those seeds started like a 4-foot fluorescent light or you know maybe a couple more that way you can get a good start around January that way you know you could do early crops and lake crops and they even have winter crops in certain areas. I say have plenty of seeds stuff you like to eat to grow a garden. Back in the day you could get like a hundred pack of 1 lb sacks of all the seeds that would grow in a garden that makes sense. Barter items are worth more than money. I remember the old timers used to tell me that homemade chewing tobacco was worth more than gold. It could get them things that money couldn't buy today times you've got to have a permit to grow tobacco but back in the day you didn't I think you need some tobacco seeds and maybe grow some tobacco and hang it just keep you up 55-gallon drum full of some loose leaf tobacco. And maybe even learn how to make some chewing tobacco out of it... If you've ever watched somebody that really knows how to can food. Screw down the lid put it in the pressure cooker and once that they get that seal they take the screw part off of the lid and the lid just stays on. That's how they save money. Some people don't like to do that because they can bump it and it break the seal but that's the way the old-timers save money when they can their food. And some people even had a vacuum sealer you can see it now you can buy them cheap you just take dry goods like herbs or tobacco or anything like that and you can put that cap on it suck all the air out stick it somewhere dark and you're good to go for a while especially tobacco and stuff like that you put one of those dry packs in what it does it keeps the moisture out. Keep it from sweating on the inside
One also needs to procure and store away barter items such as hand tools,lighters,fuels,all seasons clothings,seeds,FOOTWEAR,plumbing supplies,solar equipment,seeds,old school tractors aka pre computer equipment,spare parts,water pumps and parts,tires,seeds,bulk oils,cleaners,soaps,ammo,electrical supplies,seeds,etc.. And also seeds,as in heritage type seeds,not the store bought engineered packet seeds which will not reproduce the next year, have a short shelf life, and often don't produce even 50% of whats planted...
"I don't have a reason to worry," goes with the idea of "I can sleep through a storm" meaning you have prepared well enough that a storm poses little threat. Also, there is a difference between Prepping and being prepared. I don't prep, I prepare to sleep through the strom.
We have done the same thing..U can be thankful you’ve got the resources to do this..If someday u need this food,you’ll be really really thankful..just saying

I probably have enough put up at least three or four months of supplies and have watched tons of these kinds of videos of people doing what you're doing now but without exception it seems every one of them except me has forgotten a big part of food storage. At least a 100 pounds of food for each of your forever fur babbies and best lookouts and alarm system. Keep in mind you can't stuff your own face without guilt when your little dog is drooling all over your leg watching you eat
I think it's always good to have some extra stuff. I think a lot of times you know people do get a little extreme but you know if something did happen to where you couldn't get out to get groceries or whatever just like you know if you don't have no money you can always barter if somebody don't want money they want to trade. Andy have you ever tried any of those ready heat meals like the mountaintop meals and stuff like that hey those things hurt your stomach if you get those Patriot meals like in the bucket you're talking about they hurt your stomach just like an MRE. I don't know if you've even ever tried one but they said to drink plenty of water you can't drink enough water you get plugged up you can't poop. I think if you're going to do stuff like put meals up and stuff like the Patriot deals just get the box meals and get you a root cellar. I would be pretty modest just you know try to keep everything on its date that you're going to use if you do have some extra stuff that you want to put up just like you're doing rice flour canned stuff and even then that won't last more than four or five years you know so a lot of people get stockpiles. You could basically feed a army. If you got the extra money it never hurts to have more than you need but I say stock up on tobacco rice beans flour cooking oil alcohol bottles of alcohol or good barter items bags of tobacco chewing tobacco and I think can products are better than dry storage on some things if you wanted to put up some meals you know you could get you a freezer bag or a vacuum bag and seal it all up and sit out probably 30 or 60 days worth of meals that you could just keep once a year eat that up you know 30 or 60 days worth of supplies as far as meals go and you guys got farm animals that you can slaughter.
I wish I had the picture to prove to you what they actually showed me. They had a spot were they had put up tobacco and had been storing it up. And they said that tobacco was better after it was off of the plant for about you know 5.6 years they just had quite a bit put up. This was my papa's dad telling me this. And when he told me he said I know like I sound like I'm BS but let me tell you what tobacco did for us when I was a kid. They had about 6 or 7 wagon that were together like a train but with wheels. And they had to put in a pretty good spot you know I wouldn't tell you exactly what they did or how they did it it's not like a huge deal but it was something they had put up and they going to trusted me to look at it. It was a legal crop tobacco no big deal. But he said with the tobacco that they had put up and then after all the bad times had kind of blown over they had about a truckload. Play still had about a truckload left on one of the wagons the wagons were you know dilapidated they had started to ride apart but they had a picture. they have clothes homemade clothes shoes homemade they had homemade pig fuel they would take pig fat and cook it down and make gas and they would use that tobacco to trade for everything they needed the only thing that they couldn't make with sugar but they did like to grow sugar cane and make them molasses as a sweetener. They said that they could grow coffee but it wasn't as good as coffee that they could buy they could trade tobacco for coffee. They would take and make their own electricity too they would use two mules that would just go around in circles. That would charge batteries so they can use what they needed when they didn't have power. Now that was before you know batteries and stuff like that which you know they wouldn't spend no money on stuff like that.
This might be a dumb question, but why didn't you leave the smaller things like beans in their original bags? I can see transferring things like flour, if only for smaller packages, but the spices and beans were already packed pretty small.
Jan 2020 i was loading up with rice beans and coffee before prices or availability became an issue, it helps to give international news the sniff test and use a bit of common sense (but i trust the media less than the govt) to think ahead. I still have rice and beans from that time and im still not worried.

And some people even had a vacuum sealer you can see it now you can buy them cheap you just take dry goods like herbs or tobacco or anything like that and you can put that cap on it suck all the air out stick it somewhere dark and you're good to go for a while especially tobacco and stuff like that you put one of those dry packs in what it does it keeps the moisture out. One also needs to procure and store away barter items such as hand tools,lighters,fuels,all seasons clothings,seeds,FOOTWEAR,plumbing supplies,solar equipment,seeds,old school tractors aka pre computer equipment,spare parts,water pumps and parts,tires,seeds,bulk oils,cleaners,soaps,ammo,electrical supplies,seeds,etc.. And also seeds,as in heritage type seeds,not the store bought engineered packet seeds which will not reproduce the next year, have a short shelf life, and often don't produce even 50% of whats planted...
"I don't have a reason to worry," goes with the idea of "I can sleep through a storm" meaning you have prepared well enough that a storm poses little threat.
Also, there is a difference between Prepping and being prepared. I don't prep, I prepare to sleep through the strom.

On the spam n such.... rotate stock as time/money allows. I have a stash of tuna n spam. They get some time on em ill use em n go buy some more to replace.
The government actually recommends storing back large amounts of food.

I probably have enough put up at least three or four months of supplies and have watched tons of these kinds of videos of people doing what you're doing now but without exception it seems every one of them except me has forgotten a big part of food storage. At least a 100 pounds of food for each of your forever fur babbies and best

I think it's always good to have some extra stuff. I think a lot of times you know people do get a little extreme but you know if something did happen to where you couldn't get out to get groceries or whatever just like you know if you don't have no money you can always barter if somebody don't want money they want to trade. Andy have you ever tried any of those ready heat meals like the mountaintop meals and stuff like that hey those things hurt your stomach if you get those Patriot meals like in the bucket you're talking about they hurt your stomach just like an MRE. I don't know if you've even ever tried one but they said to drink plenty of water you can't drink enough water you get plugged up you can't poop. I think if you're going to do stuff like put meals up and stuff like the Patriot deals just get the box meals and get you a root cellar. I would be pretty modest just you know try to keep everything on its date that you're going to use if you do have some extra stuff that you want to put up just like you're doing rice flour canned stuff and even then that won't last more than four or five years you know so a lot of people get stockpiles. You could basically feed a army. If you got the extra money it never hurts to have more than you need but I say stock up on tobacco rice beans flour cooking oil alcohol bottles of alcohol or good barter items bags of tobacco chewing tobacco and I think can products are better than dry storage on some things if you wanted to put up some meals you know you could get you a freezer bag or a vacuum bag and seal it all up and sit out probably 30 or 60 days worth of meals that you could just keep once a year eat that up you know 30 or 60 days worth of supplies as far as meals go and you guys got farm animals that you can slaughter.

I wish I had the picture to prove to you what they actually showed me. They had a spot were they had put up tobacco and had been storing it up. And they said that tobacco was better after it was off of the plant for about you know 5.6 years they just had quite a bit put up. This was my papa's dad telling me this. And when he told me he said I know like I sound like I'm BS but let me tell you what tobacco did for us when I was a kid. They had about 6 or 7 wagon that were together like a train but with wheels. And they had to put in a pretty good spot you know I wouldn't tell you exactly what they did or how they did it it's not like a huge deal but it was something they had put up and they going to trusted me to look at it. It was a legal crop tobacco no big deal. But he said with the tobacco that they had put up and then after all the bad times had kind of blown over they had about a truckload. Play still had about a truckload left on one of the wagons the wagons were you know dilapidated they had started to ride apart but they had a picture. they have clothes homemade clothes shoes homemade they had homemade pig fuel they would take pig fat and cook it down and make gas and they would use that tobacco to trade for everything they needed the only thing that they couldn't make with sugar but they did like to grow sugar cane and make them molasses as a sweetener. They said that they could grow coffee but it wasn't as good as coffee that they could buy they could trade tobacco for coffee. They would take and make their own electricity too they would use two mules that would just go around in circles. That would charge batteries so they can use what they needed when they didn't have power. Now that was before you know batteries and stuff like that which you know they wouldn't spend no money on stuff like that.

This might be a dumb question, but why didn't you leave the smaller things like beans in their original bags? I can see transferring things like flour, if only for smaller packages, but the spices and beans were already packed pretty small.

Jan 2020 i was loading up with rice beans and coffee before prices or availability became an issue, it helps to give international news the sniff test and use a bit of common sense (but i trust the media less than the govt) to think ahead. I still have rice and beans from that time and im still not worried.
Now you need to build an underground (storm) shelter to store your barrel......
I think I would leave anything in the original bag that would fit inside the mylar bag.

Maybe "prepper", maybe not. Common sense? Absolutely! A century, maybe a century and a half ago, if you did not "put up" foods, you would not make it through the winter.
