The reason is when shinki are given their shinki name, their past life life/memories are sealed away. If a shinki get to know about their real name, their name as shinki will eventually crack and they will regain their memories and and how they died. The despair they feel will make them turn into monstrous ayakashi and their god will have no choice but to kill them.... This is called "Gods Greatest Secret" = A god's shinki's real name.
