the reason Jason's ball speed is faster than other two hander's is because he straighten his back when release the ball. It's not recommanded because in a long run serious injury can be caused. To bowl two handed, legs and back have to be strong to avoid injuries.
I've been bowling 2 handed for well over 14 years and have not experienced any problems with my body or aches which everyone is thinking you will experience by bowling 2 handed. Just like any sport, as long as you stay in shape and stay in good health, you will lower any risk of further injury.
Good point Nitrotic. Physical conditioning is a key part in being able to compete as you get older. A number of years ago I decided to loosen up my arm swing, keep my knees in shape and try to bowl in as many sport or PBA leagues that I can. Right now at 60 years of age I average in the 220's on typical house shots and in the low 200's on sport shots. this is not impressive for a younger bowler but I feel it is for someone my age.
Osku Palermaa, two-handed player is really really good and he also can play with one hand with pretty much as many revs as with two hands. In German League he recently bowled a 268 game one-handed. He also played WRW in us open telecast when he was 20. IMHO, you have to have talent no matter if you play one or two-handed.
I predict WIN #2 for Belmonte (and Michelle Feldman) in the Don and Paula Carter PBA Mixed Doubles Tournament in Wheatridge, Colorado. Belmonte and Feldman form the Dream Team for mixed doubles. 600 RPM for Belmonte and 350 RPM for Feldman ... Tough to Beat !!
The other thing I might note for the Belmo-haters... Walter Ray's dabbling in two handed bowling, too. Who knows? You might see him bowling that way on a Shark Championship one of these days. :)
Other predictions for the PBA Mixed Doubles event: #2 WALTER RAY WILLIAMS/STEFANIE NATION: Another tough team #3 CHRIS BARNES/LIZ JOHNSON: They have experience and consistency to put up a challenge. #4 EUGENE McCUNE/KELLY KULICK: Eugene "Rocket Man" McCune has been inconsistent on television but is exciting to watch. Eugene does well when the lanes break down and he is able to take advantage of his "Missile Ball". #5 STEVE HARMAN/MISSY BELLINDER: Missy had the "hot" hand in the 2nd round.
@MrPASSDAMAYO i see.. but this year both him and osku has showed the world that bowling is a different game now.. just like how a few years back robert smith changed the game..
Why does everyone talk about the physical condition of 2 handers? If you're use to it at such an early start, im pretty sure your body can handle it. It matters of how much of in shape you are. I've been bowling like Belmonte for 2 years(i never knew until recently) and I'm still in great shape. I work out all the time, so I'm pretty much use to it.
maybe... haha but take note belmonte started this two handed thingy from young, so for now he shldn't be facing much problems. of course, i wldn't be surprised if ten years later we see belmonte with back/other torso problems. i started playing 2 hands and stopped when i was hit with a hand muscle injury. but i do rmb when i was playing 2 hands, i had lower back strains and shoulder pains occasionally.
@DrEaMxBoI yes he does, belmo can play more ways than osku can. but im more of an osku fan than a belmo fan. and hopefully they can bowl each other more often than just the one time last year.
I'd say bowling has made progress with the introduction of sport bowling. It's just that people are not willing to move away from traditional aka 'flood of oil in the middle' bowling.
Darrin, the only thing that's similar is that you both throw with two hands. Sorry, but until you can stand and play 250 average it's like saying that I bowl similar to Walter Ray since we both use one hand;)
@MrPASSDAMAYO Well, i dont side belmo but i think that the bottle issue is just childish. and i've seen belmo make changes to it by using a plastic bottle that doesnt crickle.. BUT one thing is for sure.. belmo has more 'tools' in him than osku..
@DrEaMxBoI im not jealous of it. im glad he won, i was watching him during qualifying all week cus i live on li. but it just pisses me off that he gets the credit for creating this revolution.
I totally agree with you Tata. Bowling on the amateur level is a total joke. Don't have technique? no problem; buy a hook in a box. Who needs accuracy when these balls explode the pins. Also it is easy to average 220 when the middle to outside oil ratio is 20 to 1 on most house shots. These conditions encourage palmers, two handers and crankers without any technique. Yes bowling is a joke and the USBC is to blame for letting things get out of hand.
Tata, if you make things more difficult in bowling the typical house bowler will not want to bowl because they cannot put up the big scores. It is tough putting together sport or PBA leagues because most of your so-called 200 average bowlers do not want to participate. The USBC is in a quandary; how do they make the sport more competitive while increasing it's popularity.
@DrEaMxBoI word, just that they have to give credit where credit is due, to osku. and belmo is apparently making a worse name of himself, from all these accusations of the bottle thing.
My bad. Not all New Yorkers are like that. I guess you got what you wanted; you pissed me off to the point where now I am being irrational.. Please young man, grow up.
Tata996, the game was doomed when the USBC, formally the ABC decided to allow reactive bowling balls into the sport. You combine this with your typical house shot with its dry outside and heavy oil in the middle and even 10 year kids are walking around wearing 300 rings.
Let's see what kind of physical condition Jason finds himself ten years from now., then twenty years from now. You guys remember Mike Miller? He's the first guy to have success using a thumbless delivery. Where is he now? RETIRED! His body couldn't hack tossing the rock without the thumb and he's now 48? It's more fun watching his daughter Adrienne bowl!
Isn't bowling a game that is won by knocking down more pins than the other guy? I don't care if a guy shot a bowling ball out his butt if he won all of the tournaments. People, get off your high horses and quit whining about what "real bowling" is. Yeah, in league we're supposed to hate all of the "spinner" guys that play down the middle and mess up the oil pattern. No way. People bowl how they want. If they're ruining the equipment, they'll get kicked out. If they average 240, they wont.
Now he's the ALL-TIME LEADER with 11 PBA MAJORS!!
Excellent uploads of Belmo. Belmo is not scared of anyone.

Belmonte is so sick. Look at all those revs and look how hard/fast he throws it. So amazing.
Heh, I'm sure Denny's loved Rob Stone raving about Fagan, PA and another guy going to eat at White Castle @ 4 in the morning.

Looked like some brutal lane conditions. Belmonte showed why he is a good pro by being able to play two different shots like that.
The other thing I might note for the Belmo-haters... Walter Ray's dabbling in two handed bowling, too.

I can bowl two handed pretty good, but i dont get how jason and osku get so much speed on the ball. Its incredible.

Mainly in the legs, timing, and just lots of practice.

How about now?
What's the weight of Belmontes ball? The plastic and the other one? Please answer!

@kboss2011 ehh belmonte competed in asia too...
"How do you know she's cooking and cleaning?" "Well thats what Fagan told us." "Oh" lol!
Some of my other odd leaves include the 3-4, the 3-4-7-9, and the 1-2-4-6-8...lol!!!
I've left the 3-4-7-10 many times!!
650 revs!!
thats filthy
agree, he can bowl weather you like or hate the guy
and maybe walter ray should of bowled with 2 hands on shark, might not of left the 8-10 then lol
@MrPASSDAMAYO jealous of the rev rate and what he is doing ? At least he won?
Very odd pin reaction at around the 1:00 mark.
And now he has already 6! And he is 29 years old? Sumting like that?
right on dude!
man, looks like those pins weigh 20 pounds each, they fall so weird

@ 9.59 Belmonte get a strike for a clean game and that is that.
What's a better nickname; Beast-monte or Bel-Money?
Hmm, hello 12 years later! Hahah!
Well, LEGEND-MONTE would be better. The guy has ass-whooping 13 major titles now! 😏😏😏
