Such a disappointing day... After all the work to get Pigeon comfortable after our elimination at Elmwood she again came out not really wanting to go. I wish I had pulled up after fence 10 and retired gracefully but as usual I was a slave to my adrenaline which shames me :(
How not to ride this course!
your bravery to keep going in this video really impress me actually...when things start going wrong, it's almost impossible not to get scared and start loosing confidence. Yeah, bad days happen to everyone (to riders and ponies!), but you were brave to keep going even when everything was going wrong.
Luciana Ferreira Thank you! I am confident we have gotten to the root of the problem and addressed that now. She certainly seems to be back to her normal self, and I am back using the brakes instead of the accelerator! ;D
A Horse Called Pigeon oh, I'm glad to hear that!! wishing amazing courses for both of you :DDD
Jason Richards She has been having an off spell since around July. I had everything obvious checked and have finally discovered that she has PPID (or cushings disease) :( She is now on medication so hopefully she will be feeling better soon! Thanks for watching :)
A Horse Called Pigeon I am so sorry. And you did amazing in this video and I will I could do that and it all matters that you tried you best xx
A Horse Called Pigeon unfortunately she is gone from our view, but always visible from our hearts. Rest in peace.
I just saw this! Sorry. And any time I watch your videos regularly. Hope she's better now. Good luck!
A Horse Called Pigeon I sometimes loose my confidence when I am coming into a jump any advice please
Kristina Simon wait.... pigeon is gone?
Well done you for posting this video!! It shows huge strength of character to share with everybody a moment that you are not proud of. It definitely wasn't an easy course and for Pigeon, if she wasn't feeling totally 100% for whatever reason, it might have been one challenge too much. From your voice and the way you rode at the big spread before the skinny where you had three refusals it sounded like you felt it was fairly challenging too!! You are a very sympathetic rider and I'm sure Piggy wouldn't swap you for the world! She loves her job, that's obvious and I'm sure she's got lots of mileage left on the clock, but it's been a long hard season. I bet after a rest she'll be back to her old self. :-)
Lucy Huxter Thank you Lucy - she fair flew around the course last year (with one stop because I was not on form having been in a bike accident 2 days before). She has just been diagnosed with PPID (cushings), which may explain her general flatness of late... hopefully she will start feeling more like herself now I have some medication for her. Thanks again xoxo :)
I love how you constantly talk and praise her throughout the course, and even after you were eliminated you still patted her and didn't make a huge deal out of it. we need more people like you in the horse community x
good luck in the future! x
Thank you. Knowing this horse I'm sure that she not being naughty without good reason, and even though I was feeling frustrated and annoyed I didn't want to take it out on Pigeon. Hopefully she will be feeling more herself after a rest! x
Im so sorry y'all are having what i call an "off phase". i have those a few times a year where i can't even canter right!!! i wouldn't worry though, my horse is 16 as well and he still acts 4 years old, i believe a horse is only as old as they mentally feel. i really love your relationship with Pigeon and it makes my heart warm whenever you talk reassuringly to her, there are too many riders who just shut down and take out their anxiety on their horse and its very refreshing so see such good team work even though its an "off phase" I'm sure that in a few weeks all will be back to normal, so just give lots of grooming and love and hopefully she will start to come around again:)
I've read in the comment you feeling bad, well don't :) honestly that horse is very lucky to have you. Like everyone horses have there bad days, I've been watching your channel for ages are you and your horse are amazing together. Everyone gets upset at there horse only because you know what they can do, but as I say every horse will have these days, and you handled it fine. You and your horse are perfect together ! :)
***** I have mine of my helmet. I don't think the chest mounts are that great for jumping (you just see your hands when you are in the air because of folding into jump position). Thanks for watching! :)
What is that? A refusal or a pole? Haha, love it. I've been off sick today and can't stop watching your videos, your so kind, you never blame your horse, you never complain and you never give up, you move on from refusals and you always think about your horse. You are one of the best riders I've ever seen. You inspire me to be just like you:) Keep making your vids!
StirrupsInRein Thanks so much - I hope you are feeling better now? As usual this off day was not Pigeon being naughty... I have just had her diagnosed with PPID (cushings), which would explain her general flatness of late... hopefully she will start feeling more like herself now I have some medication for her. Thanks again xoxo :)
Really feel for you. I'm in a similar situation with Dubh. Had everything checked out (at over £400, eek.) and nothing wrong with her, she's in the best condition they've seen her in. But she just isn't herself, rearing bucking bronking bolting spinning refusing running out..... Dubh loves life and takes a hold of every thing she does and does it at top speed with ears forward !! so to see her so unhappy is heartbreaking. Been nearly 2.5 months now she's not been in work - been ridden about 6 times in that and she's just been so unhappy. Farrier again tomorrow and then we'll see. Not sure where to turn next :( Broken pony club :( xxx
Everyone had bad show days, just part of the sport I suppose but it is really disappointing when this happens, I hope she returns to feeling herself again soon and nothing is wrong x
Horses are great levellers! At least I didn't fall off or have refusals at the first fence (like some poor others I saw - now that's frustrating)! Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Awwww. Sorry about Piggy! I've been reading some of the comments and I do agree that she may need a good long holiday to get her ok again. I hope it's nothing too serious and she'll be back to herself again!
Thank you! She's having a rest now and hopefully she'll be back to her normal mad self again soon :)
I'm sorry to hear it didn't go to plan! However you know her so well and I'm sure it'll come back good sooon' love Nemo and Taimar!
I really hope so Taimar... Lots of fun still to be had with my little piggy! xx
You did really well! I rode a horse that wasn't interested in the jumping kept refusing, I had a fall not too bad but then he went on holiday. It did him the world of good jumped him the other day and he was a star! Well Done! xx
Bex Stell Holidays can work wonders but as usual this off day was not just Pigeon being naughty... She has just been diagnosed with PPID (cushings), which would explain her general flatness of late... hopefully she will start feeling more like herself now I have some medication for her. Thanks for watching and being so encouraging! :0)
Awww I hope she will recover soon and you will be back to the eventing soon!
don't get yourself down :( Some things take more time! It took me two full events too complete an Entry level. Mistakes happen. But knowing you and Pigeon are a great team!! You'll get it back! :)
Thank you so much for that! I really hope so :)
Thanks for sharing! It's good to know that even great riders, such as yourself, have a few hiccups along the way. You are a wonderful inspiration!
You go girl! Youre a talented rider! Dont let life put you down!!! X
LOL, I will try not to! xox
Awe, well I mean, that jump is pretty scary. I don't blame the girl haha. You guys did great though! I got eliminated while doing a cross country course because my pony wouldn't go through the water. I bet it's because he knew it would go well past his knees LOL.
everybody has those courses once in a while- - you handled it beautifully :)
I got a GoPro for Christmas and can't wait to use it!! :)
It's sooooooo sad to see pigeon isn't feeling her usual self hopefully that dreaded day where they get to old to compete isn't catching up with her
Even if it is she is 16 after all and had a great competition life whist it lasted :3
I'm not quite ready to believe that yet. She can have a couple of weeks off to rest up - hopefully she's feeling a bit tired after a hot hard summer season :(
Yes hopefully :)
I hope you'll keep us all informed on the proses I think every pigeon fan is a bit worried one way or another
I hope she's goibg to be back to her old self soon. It's such a shame she's just not herself xx
Oh no! That's not the Pigeon we all know (but still love ;])
Hope she's feeling better soon!
I always watch your videos! My favourites RUclips channel! X
Keep going! Everyone has bad riding days :) and I'm sure that break will do well for that crazy mare!
ridingragtime203 As usual this off day was not just Pigeon being naughty (crazy is very much her style but naughty is not)... I have just had her diagnosed with PPID (cushings), which would explain her general flatness of late... hopefully she will start feeling more like herself now I have some medication for her. Thanks for watching and being so encouraging! :o)
omg! Im so sorry for the misunderstandment! Ia PPID searious? I really hope not! I feel really bad now :(
ridingragtime203 No need to feel bad - I didn't know what the problem was until a couple of weeks ago and only tested her because someone mentioned it and the lab work was free! It's not too serious at the moment. Unfortunately it cannot be cured so the drugs just slow everything down (it's a problem with brain cells that pump out dopamine so all the hormones get out of balance and cause lots of problems elsewhere in the body, the pills add a synthetic dopamine to level things back out). It can get worse as the horse gets older if it is not treated. She might be insulin resistant (like being diabetic) as a result and so more prone to laminitis (but so far there is no sign of that side issue thankfully). It also knocks their immune system so she is at more risk of getting infections and being slow to heal cuts and scrapes... Hopefully the medication will work wonders though and she will be back to her usual crazy self soon. Thanks for your concern and thoughtful comments xxx
oh my! Prayers go to Pigeon and you while fighting this and that the medication will work!
Aww hard luck, and don't feel too guilty everyone has off days. I wonder if Pigeon was just having a mare moment because my girl is in a very no go mood at the minute too :/
Ah, gotta love the ladies and their sensitive ways! Hopefully they will all be back on track again soon. Thanks do much for your kind comment - we are lucky to have such supportive RUclips friends! :D
Ola K. Thank you Ola (I think you are a fan of my husbands photo page on Facebook too so thanks from Jon as well)! Pigeon is 16 and for the first time starting to feel her age :( I have just had her diagnosed with PPID (cushings), which would explain her general flatness of late... hopefully she will start feeling more like herself now I have some medication for her. Thanks as always for watching! xx
Hope pigeons feeling better if not I hope she will be soon
well done, I love hearing what you say & that you don't get angry and yell or hit your horse x
i'm very sorry that pigeon is gone, but in this video she showed that she is not the shower, but the best horse u could ask for, she pushed her luck for u, even though u were eliminated u still did your best. :)
Bad luck- I'm sure it has just been a few bad weeks I'm sure pigeon will bounce back up to her normal self
Best of luck!!!
Thanks Alice! I hope so too :-) x
Good job! You rode everything well😊 I think that the 7th jump (i think it was #7, was the best!☺️)
She did pop 7 well (and 5 which many knocked down).... Boo, feel better Pigeon!
Awe:( hope she feels better soon:)
Oh im so sorry. A welsh at my yard has that. I hope she gets better xxxxxx
Thank you - I'm not hanging up my cross country boots yet! xxx
Oh Alex I feel your pain! Elvis seems to be ok after his saddle wS altered but at mk this weekend so will see how it goes! I have dropped down a level this year :(
Pige def does not look herself
They are all getting older - boo! But I'm sure Pigeon and Elvis have more to give. Perhaps just feeling it this year, it has been a hot dry one! Go get em mk this weekend - I've missed it again, doh! Hopefully we can have a go at Offchurch next year if it moves there :) xxx
This is so cool!
I love they way her ears look she's a really pretty horse
Alex, don't be hard on your riding!! You rode it very well, you know yourself that this is very unlike pigeon, and I really hope you find out what's up. ( And don't listen to the people saying her competition days are over as you can see how keen and willing she is! Plus woody is older than her and he's like a 2 year old ;) ) all the best hope you find out what's wrong soon xx
Thank you Georgie... I do think she still wants to do the job. We shall see how she's feeling after a couple of weeks off! Seeing you a Woody doing so well gives me hope :) xxx
I LOVE YOUR HORSE !!
I have been watching loads of your vids recently. I think your an incredible rider and the bond that you and your horses share is amazing. I was just wondering if you had any tips for jumping? xx
*Horse
Horses are hard, don't beat yourself up! You know pigeon best, from a personal point of view I think a good holiday might do the trick, she seems just slightly un interested!! Hopefully that is just the cause! They are terribly frustrating! Good luck xx
Thank you! I think a break is the way to go now... Sometimes it would be good if they could talk but I fear Pigeon would never stop! xx
I love the commentary in the background ! And I love to see when something like that happens the rider doesn't just give up ! And was pigeon okay after she ran throught the jump ?
Hi, I was wondering if u are still making videos with the helmet cam because I have watch all of the ones u have put up and ur videos are amazing to watch
She is so smart horse dont be sad its wrong day for Pigeon and she is ok.Just nervous.
I hope so Helena! xx
ah Pigeon, there's always bad days. im sure you will be better next time
Fingers crossed this is just a blip! Thanks for your comment :)
yeah, i think it was just the nerves of such a big show! i would be nervous! youre welcome :)
Hi just wondering how pigeon is ? I know she has crushing but how is she doing ? are you riding ? Thanks I miss pigeon I just hope she is better soon even if she can't jump anymore. Just focus on getting her better right ? Xx
Hi! I'm yours fan xx I've got one question: How old is Pigeon? xx Pige is really beautiful horse
I wish you both better luck next time. Its a ground x-rail for the thumbnail. !
Lol - I thought the poles made a pretty pattern... A ground x rail was probably what she wanted to be jumping on that day!
Don't think she was feeling it that day:( no point beating yourself up about it!!!
Good good. I wanna see more vids xxx
Don't feel too guilty, everyone has bad days! Has she been well in herself otherwise? Just wondering as my 18 yr old was diagnosed with cushings this year, and before I knew about it he lost all enthusiasm. He's back to loving jumping again now he's on the tablets, maybe you cod try a blood test and see what comes up? x
The blood was all normal! Just a slight spike in albumin so she might be a little dehydrated. Thank you though - any ideas are welcome! Glad to hear your lad is feeling better :) x
My horse had cushings disese and still lived to be 27 years old. He died this year May 28, 2014 at 9:37 P.M.
has it gone away?!?! it's been 4 weeks now show us a video of how she's doing please
Not much to share really... She's still not right and the vet is coming out again on Monday to do some more tests! I'll update my google+ page when I have news :(
oh no i'm really sorry! :'(
horsesrule1214 She has been diagnosed with PPID (cushings)... hopefully she will start feeling more like herself now I have some medication for her :) xx
well thats good do you think she'll be able to ride X-country again?
horsesrule1214 I really hope so! Fortunately there is not much happening now we are out of the eventing season so the pressure is off and Pigeon can focus on feeling better. Hopefully she will be back to form by spring 2015. Thanks for your thoughtful kind comments! :-) x
wish you best with pigeon, dont give up! hope theres nothing wrong with pigeon :( wish you better look next time!
Happy Simmer Thank you for those kind words. Unfortunately Pigeon has just been diagnosed with PPID (cushings), which would explain her general flatness of late... hopefully she will start feeling more like herself now I have some medication for her. Thanks again for watching and being so encouraging! :o)
Aww thats sad to hear :( Hope she gets better soon!
Where'd you find Pigeon, if you don't mind me asking? I am quite possibly looking into getting a horse, and not quite sure where to start, haha. :)
Horses At Sea Sorry for the late reply to your very interesting question! We (I shared her for the first 11 months) found Pigeon local to where I live. We found the stables we wanted to keep her at and the manager mentioned a horse that had been there on trial to buy a couple of months previously. After a bit of digging we found an ad for Pigeon on Horse and Hound's website (no photo and a very brief write up but we called as she had been recommended for us). I fell for her as soon as I met her and had a lovely moment while trying her when we just clicked and she softened with me and came into a lovely outline (it took two years to get that feeling back - lol). Fortunately for us the owner was desperate to sell at that point following lots of time wasters and nearly selling her to chap off TV (Adam from Countryfile) who backed out when she failed the vetting. So we managed to get her on loan with a view to buy and had her vetted again five months later... she failed again on the same thing (lame trotting a small circle on a hard surface). Painful negotiations followed but ina couple of days the seller agreed to our best price and the rest is history! Good luck with your hunt. There are plenty of great horses out there so just keep looking :) x
Little fluff ball was just a tired little girl, just one of those days.
MAdeline Michel She's even more fluffy now... Probably because she has cushings disease as I have just discovered! Hopefully she will have her mojo back soon now that I have got her on medication. Thanks for watching :)
do you have any tips for me because i am a new show jumper
can i ask what helmet cam you use as i have one but it is on the side of my helmet and pulls it to the side so it is uncomfortable is yours placed at the front or on top of your helmet if so could u tell me what yours is called xx
Will you be able to record your events anymore now that BRC and BE have banned helmet cams? :( x
Jacqueline Mckechnie It's not looking promising at the moment with the British Riding Clubs and British Show Jumping also banning helmet cameras... but we will see! Hopefully the research will not find them to be too dangerous and allow them again for the 2015 season. If the ban remains I might have to get one of the tiny button cams instead! :-)
If you live in America do you know that on this sunday is a Mcnair show
I'm in uk but I have heard of this show. Thanks for watching!
Hey how is pigeon these days? Long time no videos- hope everything is ok? :)
What happened to her?
I can't ride for another three weeks because my horse is having his AHS shots
Please make more videos please
Well done u both done great but y did u need to call the vet?
Awwk poor pigeon what was up with her? :(
I wish I knew! The blood says she is healthy but she had got a minor lice issue (which usually only happens with old, young or sick horses). We will see how she is in a couple of weeks when I have got rid of the house guests! :(
Is pigeon ok because you haven't done a video on her in ages
Perhaps she just any want to compete. Sometime especially just loose heart or just want to be a riding horse less than competitor. But you know her better than me xxx
Molli Horan I have found out that she has a condition (PPID or Cushings) that is making her hormones out of balance and can make them feel tired and flat! Hopefully she will back on form after a few weeks of medication. Thanks for watching :D xox
dony be ashamed at least u tried and thats whats important i thought u did good:-) :-) :-)
I WAS NERVOUS FOR YOU 😂
Her comments are giving me life hahaaaa😂🙈
It looks like u r looking down at the jump. Don't look down, it could teach ur horse to refuse
its her gopro not her eyes
What's ppid
+Courtney Tew Its cushings
elle précipite trop sa jument
not her day.
just a little tip don't let the horse know that you are scared
Ah shit
I think pigeon is afraid or hate wide oxers
se invece di continuare a parlare le dessi due gambatine forse il cavallo capisce che deve andare
Look up not at the jump! It might help u
And u are too strict with your horse
Cookie _power The horse has since passed away and she is clearly in no way too strict w her horse...
Lauryn Onassis she is a little bit strict and I-i- I didn’t know the horse passed away.....
@@larnaandstar7355 She really isn't strict with her horse at all, not to mention she isn't looking down its just the angle which the gopro is placed.
U just sitting there and make your horse to do all work. Use ur legs and stop sitting there.
